A birthday on a yacht in Dubai costs less than people expect once you count per boat, not per head: the whole boat from AED 400 per hour with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included, so 6 friends on a 3-hour sunset charter pay AED 1,200 between them. The boat is chosen by the guest count, the cake and catering are ordered in advance, the drinks are yours to bring and the sunset slot is booked first. Below: the boat for each group size, what you can bring aboard, the budgets, and the yacht party as the shared 21+ alternative.

How much does a birthday on a yacht in Dubai cost?
From AED 1,200 for the whole boat: the 31 ft Sealine for up to 6 guests is AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, or AED 200 a head. Twelve guests on the 48 ft Orion pay AED 1,600 for 2 hours, 30 guests on the 64 ft Aries AED 3,450 for 3 hours, 60 on the X8 houseboat AED 8,400. The right boat for the guest list
#1
Up to 10 guests: the sports boats
The cheapest way to have a boat of your own. All three run from AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, so the birthday costs AED 1,200 for the boat whether 6 or 10 people come. Open decks, no cabin, a captain who takes you along JBR to the Palm lagoon for the swim before the sunset.
#2
Up to 12 guests: Orion and the 50-footers
The first real yachts in the fleet, each with a cabin and a saloon for the cake table and a shaded seat for anyone who has had enough sun. The Orion is from AED 800 per hour, the two 50 ft boats from AED 1,000, all with a 2-hour minimum, which makes a 2-hour Marina loop for 12 the best value on the list.
#3
13-30 guests: Magnum to Aries
One cabin, 1-3 crew and a deck that takes a proper party. The Magnum and Daphne carry 17 from AED 1,000 per hour, the two 62-footers 24 and 25 from AED 1,150 and the Aries 30 from the same rate, all on 2-hour minimums, so 30 guests for 3 hours on the Aries works out at AED 115 each before catering.
#4
31-60 guests: the party decks
From 45 guests upwards the rate is AED 3,500 per hour on the Freedom, Polaris, Silo, Aura and Solana, with 3-4 crew and 1-2 cabins. The 90 ft X8 houseboat is the exception: 60 guests from AED 2,800 per hour on a flat, stable deck built for standing around a buffet rather than for speed.
#5
The kids' birthday: the shared hour
For a child's birthday the hour on the shared luxury yacht is the easy option: $32 a seat, hourly departures, children of every age welcome with life jackets on board, the red carpet at the pier and the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai. No food is served, so the cake comes after, on Marina Walk.
#6
The 21+ alternative: the yacht party
For a group of adults who want the night handled, the shared party is a floating nightclub: 25-45 guests, a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks for $99 each, past Ain Dubai, the Palm and Burj Al Arab. Strictly 21+ with original ID, no outside food or drinks, so no cake and no BYO.
What a birthday on a yacht costs
A private boat in Dubai Marina is priced per hour for the whole boat, not per guest, and the rate includes the captain, the crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks. The smallest boats start from AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, so the entry price for a birthday afloat is AED 1,200 for up to 6 guests, or AED 200 a head. Bigger groups pay more for the boat and usually less per person: 30 guests on the 64 ft Aries for 3 hours is AED 3,450, or AED 115 each.
Catering is the only significant extra, and it is quoted in advance rather than printed here because it depends on the menu and the numbers. Everything else you would pay for at a restaurant birthday — the room, the view, the staff — is already in the hourly rate. The table gives the honest budgets for the common group sizes on a 3-hour sunset charter, which is the format most birthdays book.
| Guests | Boat | Hours | Boat total (from) | Per person |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | Sealine, 31 ft | 3 (minimum) | AED 1,200 | AED 200 |
| 10 | Tres, 40 ft | 3 (minimum) | AED 1,200 | AED 120 |
| 12 | Orion, 48 ft, 1 cabin | 2 (minimum) | AED 1,600 | AED 133 |
| 12 | Orion, 48 ft, 1 cabin | 3, with a swim stop | AED 2,400 | AED 200 |
| 17 | Daphne, 53 ft | 3 | AED 3,000 | AED 176 |
| 25 | Pisces, 62 ft | 3 | AED 3,450 | AED 138 |
| 30 | Aries, 64 ft | 3 | AED 3,450 | AED 115 |
| 45 | Freedom, 80 ft | 3 (minimum) | AED 10,500 | AED 233 |
| 60 | X8 houseboat, 90 ft | 3 (minimum) | AED 8,400 | AED 140 |
| 60 | Solana, 92 ft, 2 cabins | 3 (minimum) | AED 10,500 | AED 175 |
Retail rates per hour for the whole boat with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included; catering is extra and confirmed in advance. Per-person figures are rounded. The full per-hour list is in our yacht rental prices guide.
The same maths decides between a private boat and the yacht party: 12 friends on the party pay $99 each, about AED 4,360 in total, for 4 hours with the DJ and the BBQ included; the same 12 on the Orion pay AED 1,600 for 2 hours to themselves, or AED 2,400 for 3 hours with a swim, before catering. Yacht party vs private charter runs the comparison for every group size.
Which boat for which group size
Pick the boat by the final guest count, not the hopeful one, because the capacity is a hard limit and the marina confirms the boat against it. The fleet is 30 boats from 31 to 150 ft, and for a birthday the useful bands are the ones on the cards above: the sports boats from the 31 ft Sealine to the 40 ft Tres for up to 10 guests, the 48-50 ft yachts to 12, the 52-64 ft yachts to 30 with the Aries at the top of the band, and the 80-92 ft party decks to 60.
Two details change the choice inside a band. A cabin matters if anyone wants to change after the swim or if the birthday is for a grandparent who will want shade and a seat: every yacht from the 48 ft Orion upwards has at least one, apart from the X15 event yacht, and the sports boats have none. The minimum hours matter for the budget: 3 hours on the sports boats up to 40 ft, 2 hours on most yachts of 48-65 ft, 3 hours from 70 ft and 4 hours on the superyachts, so a 2-hour Marina loop is only possible on the 48-65 ft boats.
For a hundred guests the fleet moves to Dubai Harbour, where the 140 ft Stardom takes 100 from AED 11,250 per hour with a 4-hour minimum; the 125 ft X15 in the Marina takes 190 on a 3-hour minimum at the same rate. Send us the guest count, the date and the hours on WhatsApp and we check the boat with the marina and confirm the time and the total before any payment. The whole fleet with rates is at yacht rental in Dubai, and Dubai yacht rental prices explains the per-hour table.
Cake and catering
Catering on the fleet is ordered in advance with the booking and added for a fee: a live BBQ with a chef on board, Arabic and Lebanese platters, seafood and cakes are the menu categories. Tell us the numbers and the dietary needs on WhatsApp and we quote it with the boat; the final guest count and the catering are confirmed the evening before the charter, so a late plus-one is fine until then.
Bringing your own food is allowed within a clear rule: dry food such as pizza, sandwiches and snacks, served on disposable plates, yes; your own BBQ meat, no, because the grill belongs to the chef. Water, ice and soft drinks are already on board. If you would rather bring the birthday cake than order it, say so when you book and we confirm it with the boat along with the rest, rather than finding out at the gangway.
The two shared cruises work differently. The yacht party serves its own live BBQ and allows no outside food or drinks at all, so there is no cake moment on board. The 1-hour shared yacht tour serves chilled water only and no food, which is why the kids' version of the birthday finishes at a café on Marina Walk, 60 minutes after it boarded.
Drinks: bring your own
On a private charter you bring your own drinks. Alcohol is allowed on board for guests of legal drinking age, which in Dubai is 21, and the place for it is the deck at sea: not the pier, the walkway or the marina lounge, where the city's rules on drinking in public apply as they do everywhere else. Guests under 21 stay with an adult for the whole trip.
The ice, the water and the soft drinks come with the boat, so the shopping list is the bottles and the cups. Bring more of everything than you think you need in summer — the deck is 38-45°C by day from May to September — and skip the glassware in favour of anything that survives a swell. Smoking is not allowed inside, only on the open deck. The alcohol laws guide covers where else in the city a licensed drink is possible and what to avoid on the way home.
Decorations, music and the moment
Decorations are arranged on request: tell us what you have in mind when you book and we confirm it with the marina along with the boat, so that the crew know what is coming aboard and where it can go. The practical rule on any deck is wind. Balloons tied to the rail, a banner across the saloon and a cake table inside a cabin work; loose confetti, glitter and anything that can blow into the water do not, and the crew will say so.
Ask about a sound system for your playlist when you pick the boat, and give the captain the running order on the pier: the toast, the cake, the photos in front of Ain Dubai or with the Palm behind the boat. The crew have done many birthdays and will position the boat for the picture if they know when you want it. Shoes come off before boarding on every boat, so leave the heels in the bag, and pets stay ashore.
For the photos themselves, the golden-hour stretch off JBR and the return through the canal with the towers lit are the two moments worth planning around; our guide to what to wear and bring on a yacht covers the swimwear, the layers for a winter evening and the sunscreen.
The sunset slot and the timeline
Sunset is the most requested slot in the fleet, so book it first and fit the rest of the day around it. It falls at about 5:30 PM in December and about 7:10 PM in June, and the swim stop has to come before it: the Coast Guard closes swimming around 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer, always in daylight, at anchor, off the Palm or JBR, within 3 m of the boat and never while it is moving. Children under 10 wear life jackets in the water and on deck.
A 3-hour winter birthday therefore boards around 3 PM at the marina lounge on the marina level of Al Majara Tower, leaves at 3:30 PM, swims off the Palm lagoon by 4:30 PM and is heading back along JBR as the sun goes at 5:30 PM, with the cake in the last half-hour as the Marina lights come on. In June the same plan starts at 5 PM and finishes around 8 PM. Two hours on the 48-65 ft yachts covers the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai; the Palm lagoon and the swim need the third hour, Burj Al Arab and Atlantis the fourth, as how many hours to rent a yacht sets out.
Arrive 20-30 minutes before departure. The charter runs on the booked slot and a late group simply shortens its own cruise; if the birthday is going well and the boat is free afterwards, an extension on the day is possible and paid to the captain. The sunset yacht cruise guide has the sunset times month by month.
Paperwork, deposit and cancellation
Every guest needs a copy of a passport or Emirates ID on their phone, which is UAE law for boarding; collect them in the group chat the day before rather than at the pier. At check-in a security pre-authorisation of AED 2,000-15,000, depending on the yacht, is held on a card and released after the trip, so the person paying needs a card with that headroom on the day.
Booking is on WhatsApp: guests, hours, date and the occasion. We check the yacht with the marina and confirm the time and the total in writing before you pay anything. Cancelling yourself costs 50% up to 48 hours before departure and 100% within the last 24 hours; a Coast Guard weather warning is different, and gives you a new route, a new date or a full refund free of charge. Boarding is at the marina lounge at Al Majara Tower, Dubai Marina, reached from DMCC metro station by tram, taxi or a walk, with 3 hours of free parking at Marina Mall.
The shared alternatives, and the desert one
Not every birthday needs a whole boat. A group of adults who want a night out rather than an event to organise books the Dubai Marina yacht party: $99 each, boarding 8:30 PM at the pier behind Al Majara Tower, departure 9 PM sharp, four hours past Ain Dubai, along JBR, around the Palm lagoon to the Burj Al Arab photo stop and back around 1 AM, with a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks. It is strictly 21+ with an original ID, smart casual, paid in full in advance, and the cake stays at the hotel.
A child's birthday, or a low-key one for two or three people, fits the 1-hour shared yacht tour: from $32 a seat, hourly departures, check-in 20 minutes before at Level P of Al Majara Tower, children of all ages with life jackets on board and the crew helping with the photo in front of Ain Dubai. Yacht charter with kids compares it with a private boat for a family.
And if the birthday person would rather have dunes than water, the full-day desert safari is the other group birthday that organises itself: from $45 per person with hotel pickup in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride and the BBQ dinner with the fire show at the camp, paid on the day with no prepayment.
FAQ
How much does a birthday on a yacht in Dubai cost?
From AED 1,200 for the whole boat: the 31 ft Sealine for up to 6 guests is AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, or AED 200 a head. Twelve guests on the 48 ft Orion pay AED 1,600 for 2 hours, 30 guests on the 64 ft Aries AED 3,450 for 3 hours, 60 on the X8 houseboat AED 8,400. Captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks are included; catering is quoted in advance.
Can I bring a birthday cake on a yacht in Dubai?
Cakes are on the fleet's catering list and are ordered in advance with the booking, alongside the live BBQ, the Arabic and Lebanese platters and the seafood. If you would rather bring your own, tell us on WhatsApp when you book and we confirm it with the boat. On the shared yacht party no outside food is allowed, and the 1-hour shared tour serves water only.
Can we bring our own alcohol on a private yacht in Dubai?
Yes. On a private charter you bring your own drinks, and alcohol is allowed on board for guests of legal drinking age, 21 and over; water, ice and soft drinks are included with the boat. Drink on deck at sea, not on the pier or in the marina, and keep anyone under 21 with an adult. The yacht party allows no outside drinks at all.
Which yacht is best for a birthday of 12 people?
The 48 ft Orion: up to 12 guests, a cabin and a saloon, from AED 800 per hour with a 2-hour minimum, so AED 1,600 for a Marina loop or AED 2,400 for 3 hours with a swim stop off the Palm. The 50 ft Misty and Blessed carry the same 12 from AED 1,000 per hour if the Orion is taken.
What time should a birthday yacht cruise start?
Work backwards from sunset, which is about 5:30 PM in December and about 7:10 PM in June. Swimming closes at 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer, so a 3-hour charter that wants both leaves around 3:30 PM in winter and 5 PM in summer, swims first and has the cake as the towers light up. Board 20-30 minutes before departure.
Can children come to a birthday on a yacht?
Yes, on a private charter and on the 1-hour shared tour. Children under 10 wear life jackets on deck and in the water, babies under 2 stay in the saloon or cabin with a parent, and anyone under 21 stays with an adult. The yacht party is strictly 21+, so a family birthday books a private boat or the shared hour from $32 a seat.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
If the Coast Guard issues a weather warning, the charter moves to a new route, a new date or a full refund free of charge; the Marina and JBR waters are usually calm and cancellations are rare. Cancelling for your own reasons costs 50% up to 48 hours before departure and 100% within the last 24 hours, and the final guest numbers and catering are confirmed the evening before.
