How Many Hours to Rent a Yacht in Dubai: 2, 3 or 4 Hours Explained

Two hours covers the Marina, JBR and Ain Dubai; three adds a Palm Jumeirah swim stop; four reaches Burj Al Arab and Atlantis. Minimums by boat size, costs and which to book.

Dubai Marina Shared Yacht Tour — From $32 per person

Three hours is the right answer for most groups: the shortest charter that fits the Marina skyline, the Palm Jumeirah lagoon and a swim stop in daylight. Two hours is enough if the skyline is the point and nobody wants to get wet: the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai. Four hours is the full coast, on to Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea. The boat decides some of it: 31-40 ft boats and everything from 70 ft up have a 3-hour minimum, most 48-65 ft yachts 2 hours, superyachts 4. Here is what each hour buys on our charter fleet.

How many hours should I rent a yacht for in Dubai?

Three hours for most groups: enough for the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters, the Ain Dubai photo stop and the Palm Jumeirah lagoon with a 30-45 minute swim at anchor. Two hours covers the Marina loop without a swim; four hours adds Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea. The boat sets the floor: 3 hours on 31-40 ft boats and 70 ft and above, 2 hours on most 48-65 ft yachts, 4 hours on superyachts.

The five lengths of a day on the water

2 hours: the Marina loop #1
From AED 1,600 for the boat (48 ft Orion) The skyline, a sunset for two, a first charter

2 hours: the Marina loop

Out through the Marina canal past the towers and waterfront cafes, along the JBR beachfront, round Bluewaters Island for the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai, and back with the whole Marina skyline ahead of you. No swim, no Palm, but the view most people picture when they say Dubai from the water.

3 hours: the Palm swim stop #2
From AED 1,200 (31 ft Sealine) or AED 2,400 (48 ft Orion) Families, groups, an afternoon into sunset

3 hours: the Palm swim stop

The Marina loop, then on past Bluewaters to Palm Jumeirah and into the calm lagoon between the crescent and the fronds, where the captain anchors for a swim in daylight. The extra hour is what turns a sightseeing cruise into a day out, and it is the booking we suggest most often for six to thirty people.

4 hours: Burj Al Arab and Atlantis #3
From AED 1,600 (31 ft Sealine) or AED 3,200 (48 ft Orion) Seeing everything, a dinner on board, superyachts

4 hours: Burj Al Arab and Atlantis

Everything in the 3-hour route plus the run along the Palm crescent to Atlantis and on to the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab off Jumeirah, the two photographs that only the sea gives you. Four hours is also the minimum on the superyachts and the length of the fishing charters, and it fits a full catered dinner at anchor.

1 hour: the shared cruise #4
From $32 per person, hourly departures One to four people, a tight schedule, no minimum

1 hour: the shared cruise

The 1-hour shared yacht tour does the Marina loop in 60 minutes: canal, JBR, Bluewaters and a photo stop at Ain Dubai, on a premium yacht with a crew who help with the photos. It is the only way to have exactly one hour on the water, and for a couple it costs a fraction of the smallest private boat.

4 hours at night: the yacht party #5
$99 per person, 9 PM-1 AM, 21+ A night out that covers the 4-hour route

4 hours at night: the yacht party

The shared 21+ party runs the full four-hour coast after dark: Bluewaters and Ain Dubai, JBR, Dubai Harbour, the Palm lagoon and a Burj Al Arab photo stop, with a live DJ and a live BBQ. If what you want from four hours is the lit-up version of the route rather than a swim, it is the cheaper way to get it.

How many hours: the short answer

Book 2 hours if the Marina skyline is the whole point: the canal, JBR, Bluewaters and the Ain Dubai photo stop fit comfortably, with time to idle for pictures. Book 3 hours if anyone wants to swim or see the Palm from inside its lagoon; this is the default for families, birthdays and groups of friends, and the booking we suggest most. Book 4 hours if you want Burj Al Arab and Atlantis in the same trip, a catered dinner at anchor, or simply the whole coast without watching the clock.

Before you choose, check the minimum for the boat you have in mind, because on some it is not a choice. The 31-40 ft sports boats have a 3-hour minimum, most 48-65 ft yachts 2 hours, everything from 70 ft up 3 hours, and the superyachts 4 hours. The yacht rental prices guide has the hourly rate for all 30 boats; below is what each length of charter actually looks like on the water and what it costs on the boats people ask about most.

Minimum hours by boat size, and what the minimum costs

Every boat in the fleet has a minimum booking, and it is the first thing that shapes the answer. Nobody rents the 31 ft Sealine for two hours, because two hours is not on offer; nobody has to rent the 48 ft Orion for three.

Boat sizeMinimumCheapest boat in the bandBoat total at the minimum
31-40 ft sports boats (6-10 guests)3 hoursSealine, Uno, Dos, Tres at AED 400 per hourAED 1,200
48-65 ft yachts (12-30 guests)2 hoursOrion at AED 800; Libra, Pisces, Aries at AED 1,150AED 1,600-2,300
70-98 ft yachts and the X8 houseboat (23-60 guests)3 hoursAltar at AED 1,750; Elara at AED 2,100AED 5,250-6,300
110-150 ft superyachts (50-100 guests)4 hoursIcon at AED 4,900AED 19,600
125 ft X15 event yacht (190 guests)3 hoursX15 at AED 11,250AED 33,750

Retail from-rates for the whole boat with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included. Extra hours are at the same rate.

Read the table alongside the routes and a pattern appears: the small boats are sold in three-hour blocks because three hours is what a swim stop needs, and the superyachts in four because a 110-150 ft yacht is booked for an event rather than a loop. The sweet spot for price and choice is the 48-65 ft band, where a 2-hour minimum lets a couple or a family of twelve keep the outing short and cheap, and add the third hour only if they want the Palm.

2 hours: the Marina loop, step by step

Two hours is the sightseeing charter. It covers the same ground as the 1-hour shared yacht tour but at half the pace, with the boat to yourselves and the captain stopping wherever the photographs are. On a 48 ft Orion it costs AED 1,600 for up to 12; on a 62 ft Libra AED 2,300 for up to 24.

  • Boarding. Check in at the marina lounge on the marina level of Al Majara Tower 20-30 minutes before your slot, shoes off, passport or Emirates ID copy ready on your phone, the security pre-authorisation held on a card.
  • The Marina canal. The first stretch is the canal itself, between the towers, past Pier 7 and the waterfront cafes, at the slow speed the canal demands. Budget roughly 20 minutes each way; it is the part guests photograph most because the towers are so close.
  • JBR. Out of the canal mouth and along the JBR beachfront, the row of residential towers behind the beach that is the classic Marina postcard from the sea.
  • Bluewaters and Ain Dubai. Round Bluewaters Island to the photo stop in front of the observation wheel, the landmark of this stretch of coast. The captain holds position while everyone gets the shot.
  • The return. Back the same way with the full Marina skyline ahead, the best light of the trip if you have timed it for the hour before sunset.

What two hours does not include is the Palm. A swim off JBR is possible only if the slot, the daylight and the sea allow a short stop at anchor, so if you have two hours and want water, say so when you book and the captain will tell you honestly whether it fits. Two hours is the right length for a sunset for two on a 48-53 ft yacht, for a first charter, and for anyone who mainly wants the photographs.

3 hours: the Palm Jumeirah lagoon and a swim stop

Three hours is the charter most groups should book, and the one that turns a cruise into an afternoon. It adds the run past Bluewaters to Palm Jumeirah, which by road is 12-15 km from the Marina but by sea is the next thing along the coast, and the calm water inside the Palm's lagoon where the captain drops anchor. On the 31 ft Sealine it is AED 1,200 for up to 6; on the Orion AED 2,400 for 12; on the Libra AED 3,450 for 24.

  • Hour one: the Marina loop. The canal, JBR and Bluewaters as above, a little quicker because there is somewhere to be.
  • Hour two: the Palm. Along the outside of the crescent, then into the lagoon between the crescent and the fronds. From the water you see what the Palm Jumeirah area guide describes from the land: the villas on the fronds, the crescent hotels, Atlantis at the far end.
  • The swim stop. At anchor, in daylight, within three metres of the yacht, no jumping while the boat is moving. Budget 30-45 minutes in the water. Children under 10 wear life jackets in the water and on deck; under-21s stay with an adult; babies under 2 stay in the saloon or cabin with a parent.
  • Hour three: the return. Back past Bluewaters and along JBR into the Marina, ideally as the light goes gold.

One rule sets the timing: the Coast Guard closes swimming around 7 PM in summer and 5 PM in winter. A 3-hour sunset charter in December that leaves at 3 PM has its swim by 4:30 PM and its sunset at about 5:30 PM on the way home; the same charter leaving at 5 PM has no swim at all. The yacht charter with kids guide covers the family side of the swim stop in detail.

4 hours: Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea

Four hours is the whole coast. After the Palm lagoon the boat follows the crescent to Atlantis at its tip, then continues along the shore to the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab off Jumeirah, the photograph that no land-side viewpoint quite matches, before turning for home. It is also the length that makes a proper meal on board realistic: a live BBQ with a chef, ordered in advance, served at anchor while the sun goes down.

The cost is the same hourly rate times four: AED 1,600 on the Sealine, AED 3,200 on the Orion, AED 4,600 on the Libra or the 30-guest Aries, AED 19,600 on the 110 ft Icon, where four hours is the minimum anyway. The Marina yacht route guide describes every stage of this run with what you see and roughly how long each leg takes.

Four hours is also the fixed length of two other things. The fishing charters on the Uno, Dos and Tres run four hours with tackle and bait, priced on WhatsApp, and the fishing trip guide explains what they are like. And the Dubai Marina yacht party covers essentially the 4-hour route at night, 9 PM to 1 AM, for $99 per person with a DJ and a live BBQ, the shared answer for anyone 21+ who wants the full coast lit up rather than a swim.

Which hours for which occasion

Most enquiries fit one of these lines. The boat suggestions are the cheapest that seat the group comfortably; the yacht rental prices guide has the alternatives at every size.

OccasionHoursWhyTypical boat and total
Couple, sunset only2The skyline at golden hour, no swimOrion, AED 1,600 (or the shared hour from $32 each)

Birthday for 20-303Loop, swim, cake at anchor, sunset homeLibra for 24, AED 3,450; Aries for 30, AED 3,450
Proposal2-3Sunset off Bluewaters or the Palm, then privacyOrion or Misty, AED 1,600-3,000

Fishing4Fixed length with tackle and baitUno, Dos or Tres, quoted on WhatsApp
First visit, see everything4Burj Al Arab and Atlantis includedSealine, AED 1,600; Orion, AED 3,200

Two honest exceptions. If the group is fewer than about six people and the plan is just the view, skip the whole-boat maths and take the shared hour: it does the 2-hour loop in 60 minutes from $32 a seat. And if it is a birthday that wants a real dinner rather than snacks on disposable plates, four hours is worth the extra hour, because catering at anchor eats time that a 3-hour charter would rather spend swimming.

Timing the hours around sunset and the swim cut-off

Sunset is the most requested slot on every boat, so it is booked first and the hours are counted back from it. The sun sets at about 5:30 PM in December and about 7:10 PM in June; the sunset yacht cruise guide has the month-by-month times. The rule of thumb is to have the boat leaving 2-3 hours before sunset if you want a swim and sunset both, and 60-90 minutes before if the sunset alone is the point, so that the golden light lands on the return along JBR and into the Marina rather than while you are still in the canal.

Getting to the pier deserves ten minutes of planning too. Sheikh Zayed Road rush hour runs 5-8 PM, which is exactly when winter sunset charters board; from Downtown allow 40 minutes or more by taxi at that hour. DMCC on the Metro Red Line is the nearest station, a short taxi or tram ride from Al Majara Tower, and Marina Mall gives three hours of free parking. Boarding is 20-30 minutes before the slot, and because the charter runs on the booked hours, arriving late shortens the trip rather than moving it.

Extending, shortening and the alternatives with no minimum

If the yacht is free after your slot, the captain can extend on the day; the extra time is paid to him at the same hourly rate. It is a genuine option on a quiet afternoon and a poor one to rely on at sunset in season, so book the hours you actually want. Shortening is not possible: the minimum is the minimum, and a late arrival simply costs you the time.

For fewer hours than any private boat allows, the two shared products fill the gap. The 1-hour shared cruise runs hourly from the same pier from $32 per person, all ages, paid in advance because the departures sell out, and the 4-hour yacht party at 9 PM is $99 for adults who want the lit-up coast. Whichever you land on, send the guests, the date, the occasion and the hours you have in mind on WhatsApp; we check the boat with the marina and confirm the time and the total before anything is paid. If the water is one day of a longer plan, the sunrise balloon the next morning pairs well with a daytime charter, and the SB AI planner lays the week out on the map.

FAQ

How many hours should I rent a yacht for in Dubai?

Three hours for most groups: enough for the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters, the Ain Dubai photo stop and the Palm Jumeirah lagoon with a 30-45 minute swim at anchor. Two hours covers the Marina loop without a swim; four hours adds Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea. The boat sets the floor: 3 hours on 31-40 ft boats and 70 ft and above, 2 hours on most 48-65 ft yachts, 4 hours on superyachts.

What is the minimum yacht rental time in Dubai?

Two hours on most 48-65 ft yachts, such as the Orion (AED 800 per hour) and the Libra, Pisces and Aries (AED 1,150). Three hours on the 31-40 ft sports boats at AED 400 per hour and on yachts of 70 ft and above; four hours on the 110-150 ft superyachts. The minimum booking therefore starts at AED 1,200 for the boat.

Is 2 hours enough for a yacht in Dubai Marina?

Yes, for the skyline. Two hours covers the Marina canal, the JBR beachfront, Bluewaters Island and the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai at a relaxed pace, and it is the classic sunset charter for a couple or a family of up to 12 on the Orion for AED 1,600. It is not enough to reach the Palm lagoon and swim; that needs three hours.

Can you see Burj Al Arab and Atlantis on a yacht from Dubai Marina?

Yes, on a 4-hour charter. After the Marina loop and the Palm lagoon the boat follows the crescent to Atlantis and continues along the coast to Burj Al Arab off Jumeirah before turning back. On the smallest boat that is AED 1,600, on the 48 ft Orion AED 3,200. The 4-hour yacht party at 9 PM covers the same landmarks at night for $99 per person.

Can I extend a yacht charter on the day?

If the yacht is free after your slot, yes: the captain extends and the extra time is paid to him at the same hourly rate. On a sunset booking in the November-March season do not count on it; book the hours you want in advance. You cannot shorten below the minimum, and a late arrival shortens your time rather than shifting it.

What time should a sunset yacht charter start?

Count back from sunset, about 5:30 PM in December and 7:10 PM in June. Leave 2-3 hours before sunset if you want a swim and the golden hour both, remembering the Coast Guard closes swimming around 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer. Leave 60-90 minutes before if the sunset alone is the point, so the light falls on the return into the Marina.

How long is a fishing charter from Dubai Marina?

Four hours, on the Uno (35 ft), Dos or Tres (40 ft), with tackle and bait included. The price is quoted on WhatsApp rather than at the sightseeing rate. It is the one charter where the length is fixed rather than chosen; the three boats are the same 35-40 ft sports boats that do the 3-hour sightseeing charters at AED 400 per hour, so the deck is open and the sun is on you.
