Dubai Marina Shared Yacht Tour — From $32 per person

Yes, children of any age can go on a yacht in Dubai, and the rules are short: under 10 wear life jackets on deck and in the water, babies under 2 stay in the saloon or a cabin with a parent, and swimming is in daylight, at anchor, within 3 metres of the boat. The easy option is the 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 a seat, all ages welcome, life jackets in every size. The better option for a family that wants a swim stop is a private boat from AED 400 per hour. Here is how to choose the boat, time the swim and what to bring.

Can children go on a yacht in Dubai?

Yes, at any age. The 1-hour shared yacht tour from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower takes all ages for $32 a seat with life jackets in every size. A private charter from AED 400 per hour takes children too, with 3 rules: under 10 wear life jackets on deck and in the water, babies under 2 stay in the saloon or a cabin with a parent, and under 21 stay with an adult.

The family options, ranked

The 1-hour shared yacht tour #1
From $32 a seat, hourly departures, all ages Toddlers, first boat trips, one Marina afternoon

The 1-hour shared yacht tour

One hour from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower through the Marina canal, along JBR and Bluewaters to the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai. Children of all ages are welcome under adult supervision, the yacht carries life jackets in every size, chilled water is complimentary, and the length suits the attention span of a 3-year-old. No swim stop, no food served.

Orion, 48 ft #2
Up to 12 guests, 1 cabin, from AED 800 per hour, minimum 2 hours One family with a baby or a toddler

Orion, 48 ft

The cheapest yacht in the fleet with a cabin, which is exactly what the rule for babies under 2 asks for: the saloon or a cabin with a parent while the boat moves. Two hours covers the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai for AED 1,600 for the whole boat; a third hour adds the Palm lagoon swim stop.

Daphne, 53 ft and Libra, 62 ft #3
17 and 24 guests, 1 cabin each, from AED 1,000 and AED 1,150 per hour Two or three families sharing the cost

Daphne, 53 ft and Libra, 62 ft

Daphne takes 17 guests with 2 crew from AED 1,000 per hour; Libra takes 24 with 3 crew from AED 1,150. Both have a cabin for naps and a 2-hour minimum. Shared between families, a 3-hour Palm swim charter on Libra is AED 3,450 for the boat, about AED 170 a head with 20 on board, which is less than many family lunches in the Marina.

Tres, 40 ft sports boat #4
Up to 10 guests, from AED 400 per hour, minimum 3 hours School-age children who want speed and a swim

Tres, 40 ft sports boat

A fast open boat with high sides that make her easy with children, a washroom on board and no cabin, so not the boat for a baby under 2. Three hours at AED 400 is AED 1,200 for the whole boat: the Marina and JBR at speed, then the swim stop in the Palm lagoon with the under-10s in life jackets and everyone within 3 metres of the boat.

The Palm lagoon swim stop #5
3-hour charters, daylight only, at anchor Warm-water swimming from October to May

The Palm lagoon swim stop

Swimming happens in daylight at anchor off the Palm or JBR, within 3 metres of the boat, and nobody jumps while the boat is moving. The Coast Guard closes it around 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer, so a winter family charter starts by 1 or 2 PM. The sea is about 20-24°C from November to March and 26-30°C in April and October.

Can you take children on a yacht in Dubai? The short answer

Yes, and it is one of the easiest things to do with children in Dubai: the water inside the Marina and along JBR is usually calm, the boats are stable, and every trip starts from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, a few minutes from JBR Beach and Dubai Marina Mall. There is no minimum age on the 1-hour shared yacht tour or on a private charter; the rules are about life jackets, babies and swimming, not about who may board.

The decision is between two formats. The shared hour from $32 a seat is the no-planning option: hourly departures, life jackets in every size, one hour of skyline with a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai, and back on the pier before anyone gets bored. A private boat from AED 400 per hour is for families who want a swim stop off the Palm, their own music, a cabin for a nap and nobody else on deck; the whole boat is yours, so the price per person falls quickly once two families share it.

Pick the shared hour if your children are under 5, if it is their first boat trip, or if you have one afternoon in the Marina and want the water without a project. Pick a private charter if the children swim, if you are 6 or more, or if you want 3 hours on the water at your own pace. Everything below is the detail: the rules, the boats, the swim timings and what to bring.

The rules for children on board

The rules come from the fleet's terms and the Dubai Coast Guard, and the crew apply them without exceptions, so it helps to know them before you book rather than at the pier. None of them is difficult; most are what a careful parent would do anyway.

  • Under 10 wear life jackets on deck and in the water on a private charter. The boat carries them; tell us the children's ages when you book so the right sizes are on board. On the shared hour the yacht carries life jackets in every size and children stay under adult supervision.
  • Babies under 2 stay in the saloon or a cabin with a parent while the boat is moving. That single rule decides which boats suit a family with a baby: a yacht with a cabin, not an open sports boat.
  • Under 21 stay with an adult. Teenagers do not roam the boat on their own, and the 21+ rule for alcohol applies on board exactly as it does on land.
  • Swimming is in daylight, at anchor, within 3 metres of the boat, and nobody jumps while the boat is moving. The Coast Guard closes swimming around 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer.
  • Shoes come off before boarding to protect the decks, on the shared hour and on private charters alike. Pack socks for children who dislike bare feet.
  • No pets and no smoking inside. Nappies, wipes and a change of clothes are your job; there is no shop on the water.

Documents are the thing families forget. On a private charter every guest, children included, needs a copy of a passport or Emirates ID on a phone; it is UAE law, and the crew check. On the shared tour the rule is stricter: an original passport or Emirates ID for every passenger, as required by the Coast Guard, so the children's passports travel to the pier with you.

The shared hour: the easy option from $32

The shared yacht tour leaves the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower (Level P) every hour and takes one hour: through the Marina canal past the towers and waterfront cafés, along JBR and Bluewaters Island, a stop in front of Ain Dubai where the crew help with the photos, and back along the whole Marina skyline. Complimentary chilled water is on board; food is not served, so feed the children before you come.

For families it works because the hour is short, the water is calm and the boat leaves on time. Check in 20 minutes before departure, shoes off before you board, passports in the bag. If anyone in the family is prone to seasickness, a tablet 30 minutes before boarding is enough; the Marina and JBR waters are usually flat and the yachts are stable, so most children feel nothing at all.

Two things to know before you pay. The tour is fully prepaid because the hourly slots sell out, especially the one before sunset, and on-site payment is not accepted. And there is no hotel pickup, so you make your own way to the pier: DMCC station on the Red Line then a short taxi or the tram, or a taxi straight to Al Majara Tower; the step-by-step is in how to get to the yacht pier. Tell us the children's ages on WhatsApp when you book so the crew have the right life jackets ready.

A family of 4 pays from $128 for the hour, which is less than the 2-hour minimum on the smallest yacht with a cabin. The full picture of the hour, slot by slot, is in shared yacht tours in Dubai Marina.

A private boat: which one for a family

Private charters are priced per hour for the whole boat, with the captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included, and each boat has a minimum booking: 3 hours on the sports boats up to 40 ft, 2 hours on most yachts from 48 to 65 ft, 3 hours from 70 ft up. For a family the questions are simple: is there a cabin, how many are we, and do we want a swim stop.

Retail rates per hour for the whole boat; captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included. Catering is quoted in advance.

The per-person maths is what makes a private boat sensible for a group. Orion for 2 hours is AED 1,600: for a family of 5 that is AED 320 a head, for two families of 6 it is about AED 130. Libra for 3 hours with a Palm swim stop is AED 3,450: with 20 guests that is AED 173 each for a boat with a cabin and 3 crew. The complete retail table by size is in yacht rental prices in Dubai.

If you are 6 or fewer with no baby and the children are confident in the water, Tres at AED 1,200 for 3 hours is the cheapest way to get a swim stop; her high sides are why we suggest her to families first among the sports boats. With a baby under 2, start at Orion and go up by group size. All 30 boats, with photos and guest numbers, are on the yacht rental page.

Swim stops with children: timing and the 3-metre rule

The swim stop is the reason most families go private, and it lives inside the 3-hour route: the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai in the first hour, then the boat anchors in the Palm Jumeirah lagoon or off JBR and the swimming starts. A 2-hour charter is the sightseeing loop without a swim; 4 hours adds Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea on the way back. The trade-offs by length are in how many hours to rent a yacht.

Timing matters more with children than with adults because of the Coast Guard closing times: around 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer. In December, when the sun sets about 5:30 PM, a 3-hour charter that starts at 3 PM reaches the lagoon around 4 PM and has under an hour of swimming before the water closes; start at 1 or 2 PM and the swim is unhurried, with the return along the skyline as the light turns gold. In June the sun sets about 7:10 PM and the swim window runs to 7 PM, so a 4 PM start works.

The water itself is warm for most of the year: about 20-24°C from November to March, 26-30°C in April and October, and up to 33°C in the height of summer. Children under 10 wear life jackets in the water, everybody stays within 3 metres of the boat, and nobody jumps while the boat is moving. Pack towels, rash vests and a hat per child; the sun on the water is stronger than the breeze makes it feel. The full kit list is in what to wear and bring on a yacht.

The sunset slot is the most requested on every boat. If you want the swim and the sunset in one charter, book that slot first and let the rest of the day fit around it.

Food, drinks and naps on a private charter

Water, ice and soft drinks are included on every private charter, and you may bring your own drinks and dry food: pizza, sandwiches and snacks on disposable plates. What you cannot bring is BBQ meat to cook on board. If you want a proper meal, catering is added in advance for a fee: a live BBQ with a chef, Arabic and Lebanese platters, seafood or a cake for a birthday, confirmed together with the final guest numbers the evening before.

For a family with small children the practical version is a cool bag of fruit, sandwiches and juice plus the boat's own chilled water. The cabin matters here too: a toddler who falls asleep after the swim sleeps below while the adults take the skyline on the way back, which is why the cabin yachts win over the open sports boats for anyone under 5.

If everyone is happy and the boat is free afterwards, the charter can be extended on the day, paid to the captain. Late arrival works the other way: the slot starts when it is booked, so a family that is 20 minutes late has 20 minutes less on the water.

Booking, payment and what happens if the weather turns

Send us the date, the number of guests with the children's ages, the hours and the occasion on WhatsApp. We check the boat with the marina and confirm the time and the total before any payment. Check-in is at the marina lounge on the marina level of Al Majara Tower, 20-30 minutes before departure, where a security pre-authorisation of AED 2,000-15,000 (it depends on the yacht) is held on a card and released after the trip. Dubai Marina Mall nearby offers 3 hours of free parking if you come by car.

Cancellations: if the Coast Guard issues a weather warning, you get a new route, a new date or a full refund free of charge. If you cancel yourself, 50% is retained up to 48 hours before and 100% within the last 24 hours, so fix the date once the children's schedule is settled. On the shared hour a Coast Guard cancellation means a full refund or the next available slot.

A family day around the boat

The boat fits best in the second half of a Marina day. Morning at JBR Beach, lunch on The Walk, then either the shared hour at 4 or 5 PM or a private charter from 2 PM with the swim stop; the tram and a 10-20 minute walk connect JBR and the pier, and Marina Walk is a 7 km loop for an evening stroll with a pushchair.

For the rest of the trip, the age rules on our other tours decide the order. The full-day desert safari from $45 is best for children over 5 and not recommended for infants under 3; children under 12 ride the camel with an adult, and the 4x4 collects you at the hotel with no prepayment. The sunrise balloon takes children from 7, and the Abu Dhabi day at $45 with an 8:00 AM pickup is a long but easy day for school-age children.

The 5-day family plan is in Dubai with kids, with the desert specifics for each age, and the free SB AI planner lays the days out on the map with the tours in the right slots.

FAQ

Can children go on a yacht in Dubai?

Yes, at any age. The 1-hour shared yacht tour from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower takes all ages for $32 a seat with life jackets in every size. A private charter from AED 400 per hour takes children too, with 3 rules: under 10 wear life jackets on deck and in the water, babies under 2 stay in the saloon or a cabin with a parent, and under 21 stay with an adult.

Do children need life jackets on a yacht in Dubai?

Under 10, yes, on deck and in the water on a private charter; the boat carries them, so give us the children's ages when you book and the right sizes are on board. On the shared 1-hour tour the yacht carries life jackets for all sizes and children stay under adult supervision. If you want an older child in a jacket in the water as well, ask the crew for one before the swim stop.

Can I take a baby on a yacht in Dubai?

Yes. On a private charter babies under 2 stay in the saloon or a cabin with a parent while the boat moves, so choose a yacht with a cabin: Orion at 48 ft, from AED 800 per hour with a 2-hour minimum, is the cheapest. The shared hour also takes babies under adult supervision, and the water inside the Marina and along JBR is usually calm.

Can kids swim from the yacht in Dubai?

Yes, on a private charter of 3 hours or more: in daylight, at anchor off the Palm or JBR, within 3 metres of the boat, with under-10s in life jackets and no jumping while the boat moves. The Coast Guard closes swimming around 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer, so start a winter charter by 1 or 2 PM. The shared 1-hour tour has no swim stop.

Which yacht is best for a family in Dubai?

Orion (48 ft, 12 guests, 1 cabin, from AED 800 per hour) for one family with a baby or toddler; Tres (40 ft, 10 guests, from AED 400 per hour, 3-hour minimum) for school-age children who want speed and a swim; Daphne (53 ft, 17 guests) or Libra (62 ft, 24 guests) when two or three families share the cost. All of them leave from Dubai Marina at Al Majara Tower.

Is the 1-hour shared yacht tour suitable for toddlers?

It is the easiest boat trip in Dubai for a toddler: 1 hour, calm water inside the Marina and along JBR, life jackets in small sizes, chilled water on board and a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai. Check in 20 minutes early at Level P, Al Majara Tower, take the shoes off before boarding and bring socks; food is not served, so feed them first.

What documents do children need to board a yacht in Dubai?

On a private charter every guest, including children, needs a copy of a passport or Emirates ID on a phone; it is UAE law and the crew check at the marina lounge. On the shared 1-hour tour the Coast Guard requires an original passport or Emirates ID for every passenger, children included, so bring the physical passports to the pier rather than photos.
