Dubai Marina Shared Yacht Tour — From $32 per person

Light smart casual, shoes that come off in a second and a passport: that is the whole dress code for a yacht in Dubai. Shoes are removed before boarding on every boat, so bring socks. The 1-hour shared tour is smart casual with no swim stop; a private charter is the one trip where swimwear goes under your clothes for the daylight swim off the Palm; the yacht party is smart casual or party wear, swimwear not permitted. From November to March add a layer for the way back, when the air drops to 14-20°C after dark. Here is the list by trip and by season.

What should I wear on a yacht in Dubai?

Light smart casual clothes and shoes you can slip off, because shoes are removed before boarding on every boat. From November to March add a jacket or pashmina for after sunset, when the air drops to 14-20°C. Swimwear goes under your clothes only on a private daytime charter with a swim stop; it is not permitted at the 9 PM yacht party, and the 1-hour shared tour has no swim stop.

The four trips, and what each one needs

The 1-hour shared tour #1
From $32 a seat, hourly, smart casual Light clothes, socks, an original passport

The 1-hour shared tour

One hour through the Marina canal, along JBR and Bluewaters to the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai, on a premium yacht with a red carpet at the pier. Dress smart casual, take your shoes off before boarding and carry an original passport or Emirates ID, which the Coast Guard requires for every passenger. Chilled water is provided; no food, no swim stop.

A private daytime charter with a swim stop #2
3 hours from AED 1,200 for the boat, daylight swimming at anchor Swimwear under your clothes, towels, sunscreen, a cool bag

A private daytime charter with a swim stop

The only yacht trip in Dubai where swimwear is the point: 3 hours covers the Marina loop and a swim stop in the Palm lagoon or off JBR, in daylight, at anchor, within 3 metres of the boat. Wear swimwear under light clothes, pack towels and high-SPF sunscreen, and bring your own drinks and dry snacks; water, ice and soft drinks are already on board.

A sunset charter in winter #3
November to March, sunset about 5:30 PM in December A jacket or pashmina for the return leg

A sunset charter in winter

The most requested slot on every boat, and the one where people underdress. Days are 20-30°C, but once the sun is down the air falls to 14-20°C and the breeze on a moving deck makes it feel cooler, so the outbound leg is T-shirt weather and the return along the Marina skyline is jacket weather. Book the sunset slot first; it sells out.

The yacht party #4
$99, 21+, boarding 8:30 PM, departs 9:00 PM sharp Smart casual or party wear, no swimwear, an original ID

The yacht party

Four hours of DJ, live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks past Bluewaters, JBR, the Palm lagoon and Burj Al Arab. The dress code is smart casual or party wear and swimwear is not permitted; shoes come off on board, so socks again. An original ID or passport is mandatory at boarding, and there are changing facilities and a toilet on the yacht.

Documents and the card #5
Every guest, every trip A passport copy on the phone, the original where it is required

Documents and the card

On a private charter every guest needs a copy of a passport or Emirates ID on a phone, and the person paying needs a card for the security pre-authorisation of AED 2,000-15,000 held at check-in and released after the trip. On the shared hour and at the party the original document is mandatory: no ID, no boarding, and no refund for a missed departure.

The short answer: what to wear on a yacht in Dubai

Wear light smart casual clothes you can move in, shoes you can slip off at the pier, and a layer for after sunset between November and March. That covers the shared 1-hour tour, a private charter and, with one change, the yacht party. The one change is swimwear: on a private daytime charter it goes under your clothes for the swim stop, on the party it is not permitted, and on the shared hour there is no swim stop, so there is no reason to pack it.

What you bring matters as much as what you wear. Every guest carries identification, the shared hour and the party insist on the original, and the drinks rules are different on each boat: bring your own on a private charter, water only on the shared hour, nothing from outside at the party. The sections below take the trips one at a time, then the seasons, then the checklist.

Shoes off: the one rule on every boat

Shoes come off before you step on board on every boat in the fleet, the party yacht included. It protects the decks, and the crew apply it to everyone, so the practical advice is to arrive in shoes that take two seconds to remove: sandals, flip-flops, loafers, trainers without laces. Heels are pointless because you will not be wearing them, and laced boots are a small nuisance at the pier.

If you dislike bare feet on a deck, bring socks; it is the party yacht's own advice, and it applies to the shared hour and private charters as well. In winter a pair of socks is also the difference between warm feet and cold ones on the return leg after dark. Children who hate bare feet need the same pair.

What to wear by trip

The three formats leave from the same place, the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower in Dubai Marina, but they are three different occasions. A 1-hour skyline cruise at 4 PM, a 3-hour charter with a swim, and a 9 PM party with a DJ do not call for the same outfit, and the rules are not identical either.

Yacht party, $99Smart casual or party wearNot permittedOff on board; bring socksLight jacket in winter, the deck is open to the breeze

Swimming from a private charter is in daylight, at anchor off the Palm or JBR, within 3 metres of the boat; the Coast Guard closes it around 7 PM in summer and 5 PM in winter.

On the way to the pier the city's ordinary dress standard applies: shoulders and knees covered is the polite norm in malls and public areas, and swimwear belongs on beaches, at pools and on the boat, not on the tram or in Dubai Marina Mall. A T-shirt and shorts over a swimsuit solves it. The full city guide is in Dubai dress code for tourists, and the party specifics, from the 21+ rule to the ID check, are in yacht party dress code and rules.

What to wear by season

Dubai has two seasons on the water. From November to March days are 20-30°C, nights 14-20°C, the sea 20-24°C and the light is clear; this is when the sunset slots sell out first. From May to September days reach 38-45°C with heavy humidity from July, the sea climbs to 33°C, and the sensible slots are early morning and after sunset. April and October sit in between at 30-38°C with the sea at 26-30°C, which is comfortable swimming water.

MonthsDay and night airSeaWhat to wearBest slots
November to March20-30°C days, 14-20°C nights20-24°CLight clothes by day, a jacket or pashmina after sunset, socksAfternoon swim, sunset cruise
April and October30-38°C26-30°CThe lightest fabrics, a hat, high-SPF sunscreen, a rash vest for long swimsLate afternoon into sunset
May to September38-45°C days, 30°C+ nights, humidUp to 33°CLoose linen or cotton, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen every 2 hours, nothing for warmthEarly morning, evening after 7 PM, the 9 PM party

The sunset times set the timing of the layer: about 5:30 PM in December and about 7:10 PM in June. A winter charter that starts at 3 PM returns in the dark, and the breeze on a moving deck takes a few degrees off the thermometer, so the pashmina that felt unnecessary at the pier earns its place on the way back. A summer party at 9 PM needs nothing warm at all, only something that copes with 30°C and humidity. Month by month detail for the sunset slot is in sunset yacht cruise in Dubai Marina.

What to bring: the checklist

The list is short, and half of it is documents. Pack it the night before, because the boats leave on time: the shared hour departs strictly on schedule with no refund for late arrivals, the party yacht leaves at 9:00 PM sharp, and a private charter runs on its booked slot, so a late guest simply has less time on the water.

  • Identification. A copy of a passport or Emirates ID on the phone for every guest on a private charter (UAE law). An original passport or Emirates ID for every passenger on the shared hour, required by the Coast Guard, and an original ID or passport at the party: no ID, no entry.
  • A card for the deposit on a private charter: a security pre-authorisation of AED 2,000-15,000, depending on the yacht, is held at check-in and released after the trip. Have the same card ready if you decide to extend on the day; the extra hour is paid to the captain when the boat is free afterwards.
  • Socks, because shoes come off, and a small bag to keep them tidy.
  • Sun kit: high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for any daytime departure. The sun on the water is stronger than it feels in the breeze, and a deck offers little shade on the move.
  • Swim kit on a private daytime charter: swimwear under your clothes, a towel per person, a rash vest for children and anyone who burns, and a waterproof pouch for the phone at the swim stop.
  • Seasickness tablets, taken 30 minutes before boarding if you are prone to it. The Marina and JBR waters are usually calm and the yachts are stable, but the open water off the Palm moves more than the canal.
  • A camera or a charged phone. On the shared hour the crew help with the photos in front of Ain Dubai and the JBR skyline; on a private charter the Palm from the sea and Burj Al Arab on the 4-hour route are the two shots people come for.
  • A layer from November to March: a light jacket, a pashmina or a hoodie for the return leg after sunset.
  • Children's things on a private charter: nappies, wipes, a change of clothes and their own snacks. Life jackets for under-10s are on the boat. The family rules are in yacht charter with kids.

Leave behind: heels, a drone, which needs a DCAA permit under Dubai law, pets, which are not allowed on any boat, and raw BBQ meat, which cannot be brought on board for the grill.

Drinks and food: what is allowed on each boat

This is where the three formats differ most, and where people get it wrong. On a private charter water, ice and soft drinks are included, and you bring your own drinks: alcohol is allowed on board for guests of legal drinking age, 21+, on a licensed boat, which makes it one of the few places in Dubai where you open your own bottle. Dry food such as pizza, sandwiches and snacks is fine on disposable plates; BBQ meat to cook on board is not. If you want a meal served, catering is added in advance for a fee: a live BBQ with a chef, Arabic and Lebanese platters, seafood or a cake, confirmed with the final guest numbers the evening before.

On the shared hour complimentary chilled bottled water is provided and food is not served; the cruise is 60 minutes, so eat before or after at the Marina Walk cafés. At the yacht party no outside food or drinks are allowed at all, because the ticket already includes the live BBQ (meat, chicken, sliders, salads and desserts) and unlimited water, soft drinks and selected juices.

Two rules apply everywhere: no smoking inside the boat, and the 21+ age for alcohol is the law of the country, not a house rule. Where drinking is legal and where it is not is set out in alcohol laws in Dubai for tourists.

Arriving dressed for the boat: check-in and the pier

All three trips start at Al Majara Tower in Dubai Marina: the shared hour checks in at the marina pier on Level P at least 20 minutes before departure, private charters at the marina lounge on the marina level 20-30 minutes before, and the party at the pier behind the tower from 8:30 PM, with the exact spot sent on booking. The nearest Metro station is DMCC on the Red Line, followed by a short taxi ride or the tram and a walk; a taxi drops you at the tower door; Dubai Marina Mall offers 3 hours of free parking, which covers a 2-hour charter and the shared hour but not the party. The step-by-step is in how to get to the yacht pier.

If the swim stop is the plan, arrive with the swimwear already on under a T-shirt and shorts, towels in the bag and the sunscreen applied at the hotel, so the first hour of the charter is not spent getting ready. If it is the sunset slot, arrive with the layer in the bag and the shoes already easy to remove. Book the shared hour and the party in advance because both are prepaid and the slots sell out; for a private boat, send us the date, guests and hours on WhatsApp and we confirm the yacht with the marina before any payment. The whole fleet, from a 31 ft sports boat at AED 400 per hour to a 150 ft superyacht, is on the yacht rental page.

FAQ

What should I wear on a yacht in Dubai?

Light smart casual clothes and shoes you can slip off, because shoes are removed before boarding on every boat. From November to March add a jacket or pashmina for after sunset, when the air drops to 14-20°C. Swimwear goes under your clothes only on a private daytime charter with a swim stop; it is not permitted at the 9 PM yacht party, and the 1-hour shared tour has no swim stop.

Do I have to take my shoes off on a yacht in Dubai?

Yes, on the shared 1-hour tour, on private charters and at the yacht party alike: shoes come off before boarding to protect the decks. Arrive in sandals, flip-flops or trainers without laces, and bring socks if you prefer not to go barefoot; in winter socks also keep your feet warm on the return leg after dark.

Can I wear swimwear on a yacht in Dubai?

On a private charter, yes: swimming is in daylight, at anchor off the Palm or JBR, within 3 metres of the boat, and the Coast Guard closes it around 5 PM in winter and 7 PM in summer, so wear the swimwear under your clothes. At the yacht party swimwear is not permitted, and on the 1-hour shared tour there is no swim stop. Outside the boat, beaches and pools are the only places for it.

Do I need my passport for a yacht in Dubai?

Yes. The shared 1-hour tour requires an original passport or Emirates ID for every passenger, a Coast Guard rule, and the yacht party requires an original ID or passport for the 21+ check with no exceptions. On a private charter a copy of a passport or Emirates ID on your phone is enough for each guest, plus a card for the AED 2,000-15,000 security pre-authorisation.

Can I bring my own food and drinks on a yacht in Dubai?

On a private charter, yes: your own drinks, including alcohol for guests aged 21+, and dry food such as pizza, sandwiches and snacks on disposable plates; no BBQ meat to cook on board, and water, ice and soft drinks are already included. On the shared 1-hour tour only the complimentary water is served. At the yacht party no outside food or drinks are allowed; the BBQ and unlimited soft drinks are in the ticket.

Is it cold on a yacht in Dubai in winter?

After sunset it can be. From November to March days are 20-30°C but nights fall to 14-20°C, and the breeze on a moving deck makes it feel cooler, so a sunset charter that leaves at 3 PM returns in jacket weather. Bring a light jacket or pashmina and socks. In summer the opposite applies: 30°C+ nights with humidity, so the lightest clothes you own.

Will I get seasick on a yacht in Dubai?

Most people do not: the water inside the Marina and along JBR is usually calm and the yachts are stable. If you are prone to motion sickness, take a tablet 30 minutes before boarding, especially on a 3 or 4-hour charter that goes out to the Palm and Burj Al Arab, where the sea moves more than the canal. If the Coast Guard cancels a trip for weather, you get a full refund or a new date.
