Five things to do near the Museum of the Future while it is closed

Dubai Frame #1
Zabeel Park, Gate 4; Red Line to Al Jafiliya A cheap, short view and a history gallery

Dubai Frame

The nearest replacement for the idea of the museum: a short visit with a gallery on the city's past and future, then a glass-floored sky bridge 150 m up with Old Dubai on one side and the towers on the other. Allow about an hour and expect an adult ticket of about AED 50; check the official site for the current price.

Burj Khalifa, At the Top #2
The Dubai Mall, lower ground floor; one Metro stop away The big skyline view, first-time visitors

Burj Khalifa, At the Top

One stop down the Red Line from Emirates Towers. Levels 124 and 125 have no time limit, so one ticket from $55 can cover daylight, sunset and the lit city. We book the date and slot and send the e-ticket on WhatsApp. Ask for a slot about an hour before sunset; our best-time guide has the table.

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo #3
Inside The Dubai Mall, Downtown Families and a rainy or very hot day

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

A good indoor replacement for children. The huge viewing panel can be watched for free from the mall floor, and the paid route adds a walk-through tunnel and the zoo upstairs. Standard tickets start from about AED 150, so check the official site, and allow one and a half to two hours for the paid route.

The Dubai Fountain #4
Burj Lake, outside The Dubai Mall A free evening, couples, photographs

The Dubai Fountain

The free option that pairs with any Downtown ticket. The shows play on Burj Lake every 30 minutes from about 6 PM, and the lakeside boardwalk is open to everyone. Come before dusk to claim a spot at the railing, because the best places fill up. Our fountain guide has the timings and viewpoints.

Souk Al Bahar and Burj Park #5
Burj Lake edge, Old Town Island An easy walk with the tower in view

Souk Al Bahar and Burj Park

A walk along the lake from Souk Al Bahar to Burj Park costs nothing and gives the classic angle on the tower, which you cannot photograph from inside it. Go in the late afternoon in winter; in summer, wait for after sunset, when the paths cool down and the lights come on over the lake.

Museum of the Future: the short answer

The Museum of the Future is temporarily closed. The museum's own website says its exhibitions are unavailable while it prepares its next chapter, and press reports point to a reopening in the first quarter of 2027. We have not seen a confirmed opening day. Before the closure, a visit took 2-3 hours and a timed adult ticket cost about AED 170, with children under four free.

So the useful answer has two halves. If you travel soon, plan Downtown around other things: the Dubai Frame, the aquarium or a Burj Khalifa ticket from $55. If you travel after the reopening, use this guide for how booking and getting there worked, and check the museum's official website for the current price and hours, because the galleries are being replaced and the format may change.

Is it open? What to check before you plan

Check the museum's official website on the day you plan, not an article, including this one. The closure was announced by the museum itself, and the reopening is described in the press as a window, not a date. Ticket sales for your date, the opening hours and the price are the three things to look at.

These are the details published before the closure. Prices, hours and the format of the visit may change when the museum reopens.

What was inside before the closure

The museum was built as a set of future scenarios rather than a collection of objects, and its galleries were designed to be replaced from time to time. Press coverage before the closure described a route that ran from the top floor downwards. Treat the table as history: the replacement galleries will be different.

ZoneWhat it coveredWho liked it most
Space station (top floor)A near-future orbital station and the idea of living beyond EarthOlder children, teenagers, space fans
The natural worldA digital reconstruction of ecosystems, biodiversity loss and how it might be repairedAlmost everyone; very visual
Wellbeing and the sensesA quieter space with less spectacle and more stillnessAdults who wanted a pause
The lower floorsHands-on demonstrations of how technology might change health, transport, energy and daily lifeTeenagers and adults
Children's zoneStructured play about thinking aheadYounger children

The building is the first exhibit. The stainless-steel ring is about 77 m tall and wrapped in Arabic calligraphy taken from the words of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with the windows formed by the letters themselves and no columns anywhere. It stands beside Sheikh Zayed Road, so you can see it from the road and from the Metro even while the doors are shut.

Tickets and timed slots: how it worked

Paid tickets were tied to a date and an entry time and sold on the museum's official website. Visitors from the age of four paid the same price, about AED 170, and children under four entered free. People of determination and one carer were also free, collecting their tickets at the customer service desk on arrival. At the lobby you exchanged the ticket for a wristband used to enter the exhibitions.

Arrive 15 minutes before your slot. Early-morning slots were the quietest, and weekends and school holidays the busiest. Buy from the official website, so that the date and time are confirmed by the museum itself, and keep your phone charged for the barcode.

If you plan to see the museum and go up the tower on the same day, book the tower first. Our Burj Khalifa tickets are for a fixed date and slot and cannot be refunded or changed once issued, so the tower is the booking to fix first and the museum slot is the one to fit around it.

How to get there

The museum is on Sheikh Zayed Road beside Emirates Towers station on the Red Line, and a link bridge runs from the station to the building. It is one stop from Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, so the two fit into one Downtown day. A Nol card trip costs roughly AED 3-7.5 depending on zones; the Dubai Metro guide covers cards and fares.

By taxi there are drop-off areas around the building. Parking is chargeable and very limited, so the Metro is the safer plan when you have a fixed slot. If you stay in the Marina, the Marina to Burj Khalifa guide gives the Metro and taxi timings, and the Downtown Dubai area guide shows how the museum, the mall and the lake connect.

What to do in Downtown while it is closed

Downtown still has a full day in it without the museum. These are the options we would put in this order:

Will it be worth the ticket when it reopens?

At about AED 170 it is a premium ticket for 2-3 hours indoors, and the honest answer depends on who is going. It suits teenagers and adults with an interest in technology and design, families with school-age children, and anyone who wants a cool, air-conditioned afternoon in July. Read recent visitor feedback after the reopening, because the galleries will not be the ones described above.

Skip it if you want a skyline view, because there is none: go up the tower or the Frame instead. Skip it too if the budget is tight, since the Frame costs roughly a third of the price. And think twice with very small children: the children's zone helps, but the rest is built for older visitors. For a wider choice of family outings, see Dubai with kids and the Frame or museum comparison.

How long does a Museum of the Future visit take?

The museum's own guidance before the closure was 2-3 hours on average, longer if children stop at every interactive station. Add 15 minutes for arrival and the wristband, and some time for photographs of the building.

Yes for paid tickets: they were tied to a date and an entry time, and early-morning slots were the quietest. Buy on the official website and arrive 15 minutes before your slot.

How do I get to the Museum of the Future by Metro?

Take the Red Line to Emirates Towers station and follow the signs to the link bridge that connects the station with the museum. It is one stop from Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall. By taxi, ask for the Museum of the Future on Sheikh Zayed Road; parking is very limited.

Is the Museum of the Future good for kids?
