What is the best time to visit Burj Khalifa?

A slot about an hour before sunset. Sunset is about 5:30 PM in November and December and about 7:05-7:10 PM in June and July, so the slot runs from about 4:30 PM in winter to about 6:00 PM in summer. Prime-time slots cost more, but with no time limit on Levels 124 and 125, one ticket from $55 shows the city by day, at sunset and lit up after dark.

Five ways to time the tower

The sunset slot: day, dusk and lights #1
Slot about an hour before sunset; prime-time price First visits, couples, photographers

The sunset slot: day, dusk and lights

The slot we recommend. Walk in about an hour before sunset, spend the first part in daylight, watch the sun go down and stay for the first lights, all on one ticket, because Levels 124 and 125 have no time limit. Prime-time slots cost more, and we quote the exact price for your slot on WhatsApp.

A daytime slot: the long view #2
Clearest air from November to March Seeing how the city is laid out

A daytime slot: the long view

The whole map of Downtown, the lake, the coast and the roads in full daylight. November to March brings the clearest air; in summer, haze can soften the daytime horizon, so an evening slot often shows more. Off-peak slots cost less than prime time, and we quote the price per slot.

After dark: the lit city #3
Evening slots; last SKY lounge entry 10:00 PM Anyone who prefers the lights to the light

After dark: the lit city

Downtown outlined in lights, the roads glowing and the lit city stretching to the horizon. Slots run every half hour into the late evening, opening hours end at 11:00 PM and the last entry to the SKY lounge is 10:00 PM. Choose it only if you do not mind missing the daylight view; the sunset slot gets both.

A morning slot: from 7:00 AM #4
Slots every half hour from opening at 7:00 AM Early risers, a clear daytime view, a free evening

A morning slot: from 7:00 AM

Opening is 7:00 AM and slots run every half hour, so a morning ticket is easy to fit in and leaves the evening free for something else. It shows Dubai by day only: if you can make just one visit, the sunset slot covers more. Ask us for the price per slot.

Then the Dubai Fountain #5
Every 30 minutes from about 6 PM Ending the visit at the foot of the tower

Then the Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain plays on Burj Lake outside The Dubai Mall every 30 minutes from about 6 PM. From October to January a slot an hour before sunset has you coming down while the shows are running, so the tower and the Fountain fit into one evening without a second plan.

The best time to visit Burj Khalifa: the short answer

Book a slot about an hour before sunset. Sunset and other prime-time slots cost more than off-peak ones, but with no time limit on Levels 124 and 125, one ticket (from $55) shows Dubai by day, at sunset and lit up after dark. Most guests spend 1.5-2 hours on the decks, which is just long enough: you arrive in daylight, see the sun go down and leave with the city glowing.

The reason is that a slot is your entry time, not your exit time. A midday slot gets you the day only and a late slot only the night; an hour before sunset gets all three. The table below tells you which half hour to ask for in each month, and we quote the exact price for your slot on WhatsApp when you send the date. If you also have to choose between Levels 124-125 and SKY Level 148, that has its own guide, Level 124 vs 148. Everything here is about the hour on a Burj Khalifa ticket.

Day, sunset or night: what you see in each

All three are good. They are different views of the same city, and one ticket on Levels 124 and 125 can hold all of them.

Sunset and other prime-time slots cost more than off-peak ones, and we quote the exact price for your date and slot on WhatsApp.

That is the case for the hour-before-sunset slot: it is the only one that covers the whole row. Because there is no time limit on 124 and 125, nothing makes you leave when the light changes, and the change of light is the show.

Clearest air: November to March, and what summer haze does

The visit is mostly indoors, so it works in any month. What changes with the season is the view: November to March brings the clearest air and the most comfortable outdoor terrace, and the horizon is at its sharpest.

In summer, haze can soften the horizon in daytime, which is why an evening slot often shows more than a midday one. If you are visiting in the heat, treat the sunset slot as the default rather than the upgrade. Our month-by-month guide to Dubai covers the weather for the rest of the trip.

Sunset by month: the slot to ask for

These are approximate Dubai sunset times, and they shift by a few minutes through each month. The slot column is the entry time we would ask for: about an hour before sunset, rounded to the nearest half hour because slots run every half hour. Where sunset moves across the month, two slots are shown.

December5:30-5:40 PM4:30 PM

Prime-time slots cost more than off-peak ones, so we quote the exact price for your slot on WhatsApp before you pay. Tickets cannot be refunded or changed once issued, so check the date and time first.

Two patterns stand out. From October to January the slot is in the late afternoon, so if you stay the usual 1.5-2 hours, the Dubai Fountain shows (from about 6 PM) are already running by the time you come down. In June and July sunset is just after 7:00 PM, so the slot moves to about 6:00 PM and you come down to the Fountain after dark.

If the half hour you want is taken, go earlier rather than later: with no time limit, an earlier slot still catches the sunset, while a later one can miss it. And arrive at The Dubai Mall before the slot, not at it: the walk to the lower ground floor and the security check come first.

Morning slots, opening hours and Ramadan

Slots run every half hour from morning to late evening. Opening hours are 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and the last entry to the SKY lounge is 10:00 PM, so an after-dark SKY slot has to start by then.

A morning slot suits a clear daytime view and a free evening, and off-peak slots cost less than prime time (we quote the price per slot). It shows Dubai by day only, so if you can make just one visit, the sunset slot covers more. A morning ticket pairs well with a different evening plan: the shared yacht tour in Dubai Marina, from $32 per person, leaves hourly.

Opening hours change during Ramadan, and we confirm your slot against the current timetable before you pay. The Ramadan guide covers what else shifts for visitors.

How long to allow, and the walk before the elevator

Allow 1.5-2 hours on the decks. That is what most guests spend; there is no time limit on Levels 124 and 125, so it is a habit, not a rule, and you can stay longer.

Before the elevator come the walk through The Dubai Mall to the entrance on the lower ground floor, the security check and an exhibition on the tower's story, and none of them is part of the 1.5-2 hours. Plan to be inside The Dubai Mall before your slot starts, because the visit begins at the entrance, not at the top.

If you want a morning in Old Dubai before an evening slot, the Old Dubai walking tour starts at about 8:30-9:00 AM and takes 3-4 hours on foot, so the late afternoon stays free.

End at the Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain plays on Burj Lake in front of The Dubai Mall, every 30 minutes from about 6 PM. A sunset slot fits it: you spend the daylight and the dusk at the top and come down to the lake while the evening shows are running.

Burj Park, the park at the foot of the tower on the edge of Burj Lake, is where you can photograph the tower itself, which you cannot do from inside it. The Downtown Dubai area guide has the lakeside viewing spots and an hour-by-hour Downtown day, and Dubai at night lists what else is on after dark.

SKY timing: Level 148 comes first

The SKY ticket runs in a fixed order: Level 148 first for about 30 minutes, then Levels 125 and 124 with no time limit. Because the timed part comes first, you choose the slot by deciding what you want to see from the top deck.

A slot about an hour before sunset, the same as for Silver, puts your 30 minutes on Level 148 in the daylight before sunset. You then go down to 125 and 124 as the sun sets and can stay for the first lights, because there is no clock there, so one SKY ticket still covers day, sunset and night. If you would rather have the sunset itself from Level 148, ask for a slot closer to sunset and tell us; the lit city then comes on 125 and 124. SKY slots are limited, so we confirm availability for your time before you pay, and sunset slots are prime time, priced per slot on WhatsApp.

SKY Level 148 starts from $115, against from $55 for Levels 124 and 125, and the 124 vs 148 guide explains what the difference buys.

FAQ

What is the best time to visit Burj Khalifa?

A slot about an hour before sunset. Sunset is about 5:30 PM in November and December and about 7:05-7:10 PM in June and July, so the slot runs from about 4:30 PM in winter to about 6:00 PM in summer. Prime-time slots cost more, but with no time limit on Levels 124 and 125, one ticket from $55 shows the city by day, at sunset and lit up after dark.

What time is sunset at Burj Khalifa?

It follows Dubai's sunset: about 5:30-5:40 PM in November and December, 6:20-6:35 PM in March and 7:05-7:10 PM in June and July, shifting a few minutes through each month. The month-by-month table above has all twelve.

Is Burj Khalifa better by day or at night?

Neither wins outright. Day shows the layout of the city and is sharpest from November to March; night shows the lit city. In summer, haze softens the daytime horizon, so an evening slot often shows more. A sunset slot covers both, since there is no time limit on Levels 124 and 125.

What are the Burj Khalifa opening hours?

7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with slots every half hour and the last entry to the SKY lounge at 10:00 PM. Hours change during Ramadan, and we confirm your slot against the current timetable.

How long does a Burj Khalifa visit take?

Allow 1.5-2 hours on the decks, plus the walk through The Dubai Mall and the security check before the elevator. There is no time limit on Levels 124 and 125; with SKY, Level 148 is limited to about 30 minutes, then you stay on 125 and 124 as long as you like.

Is a sunset ticket more expensive?

Yes. Sunset and other prime-time slots cost more than off-peak ones. We quote the exact price for your date and slot on WhatsApp; Levels 124-125 start from $55 and SKY Level 148 from $115.

When is the air clearest for the view?

November to March brings the clearest air. In summer, haze can soften the daytime horizon, so an evening slot often shows more.

Can I see the Dubai Fountain after Burj Khalifa?

Yes. The Dubai Fountain plays every 30 minutes from about 6 PM on Burj Lake in front of The Dubai Mall, so an hour-before-sunset slot lets you finish at the lake.
