Five ways to use the Dubai Frame

The glass floor on the sky bridge #1
Sky deck, 150 m up Photographs and a small thrill

The glass floor on the sky bridge

The sky bridge links the two sides of the frame and has a glass floor, so you look straight down to the park. It is the reason most people come. If heights bother you, walk slowly, hold the rail and look out at the horizon rather than down. Children under 12 must be with an adult, and nobody may sit on the railings.

The north side: Old Dubai and the Creek #2
North face of the sky deck Seeing where the city began

The north side: Old Dubai and the Creek

This is the view the Frame was built for: on one side the older districts of Dubai, on the other the modern city. To the north lie Deira and Bur Dubai, the low-rise part of town around the Creek where the city began as a trading port. It makes a good warm-up for a walk in Old Dubai afterwards.

The south side: Downtown and Sheikh Zayed Road #3
South face of the sky deck The skyline, with the Burj Khalifa in view

The south side: Downtown and Sheikh Zayed Road

Turn round and the towers of Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown fill the horizon. Unlike the view from inside the tower, this one includes the Burj Khalifa itself, which many visitors prefer for photographs. At 150 m you are far lower than the observation decks, so it shows the skyline from the side rather than from above.

Frame plus Old Dubai on foot #4
Al Fahidi, a short taxi from Zabeel Park Half a day of old and new Dubai

Frame plus Old Dubai on foot

Do the Frame in the morning from 8:00 AM, when it opens, then move on to the wind-tower lanes of Al Fahidi. Our Old Dubai walking tour takes 3-4 hours from $35 per person and includes the abra ride, coffee and dates. The two together tell the story the Frame's own gallery only outlines.

Frame plus Burj Khalifa at sunset #5
Same Red Line, a few stops apart Two views in one day

Frame plus Burj Khalifa at sunset

Go up the Frame in the morning and keep a Burj Khalifa slot for an hour before sunset. The two views are different enough that it is not repetition: one looks at the tower, the other looks from it. A Levels 124 and 125 ticket is from $55 per person, and we book the date and slot for you.

Dubai Frame in one minute

A Dubai Frame ticket costs about AED 50 for adults (roughly $14), about AED 20 for children, and under-threes enter free. The visit takes about an hour: a gallery on the old city, a glass-fronted lift to the 150 m sky bridge, and a gallery on the future. The Frame is open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, at Gate 4 of Zabeel Park, and the closest Metro station is Al Jafiliya on the Red Line.

It is one of the cheapest paid views in Dubai and one of the few that show Old Dubai and the Downtown towers at the same time. It is also much lower than the big towers, so think of it as a quarter-price taste of the city, not a replacement for the Burj Khalifa. Prices change, so confirm the figure on the official Dubai Frame website before you go. On request we also book Dubai Frame on WhatsApp and confirm the price for your date.

What the visit is like: past, present, future

The route runs in three steps, and the official description follows the same order. You are on a timed ticket, so expect to be guided through them in sequence rather than wandering freely.

StepWhereWhat happensRoughly
PastMezzanineA swirl tunnel with sound and light effects, then a multimedia gallery on the move from fishing village to modern city15-20 minutes
PresentSky deck, 150 mA fast glass-fronted lift to the sky bridge, with Old Dubai on the north side and the towers on the south20-30 minutes
FutureLower levelInteractive screens and virtual reality showing a vision of Dubai in the decades ahead10-15 minutes

Timings are our estimate for a normal visit. Queues for the lift and photographs on the glass floor are what stretch it.

Strollers, large bags, shopping bags and backpacks are not allowed up and are kept at the Gate 4 counter. Food and drink are not allowed during the visit either, so drink before you go in. Personal handbags are fine.

The glass floor and the view

The sky bridge is 93 m long and links the two sides of the frame at the top. Its floor is glass, so you can look straight down at Zabeel Park. Most people walk across, take photographs and walk back. If you dislike heights, take it slowly, hold the rail and look at the horizon: the view out is the point, and the glass is the extra.

The view splits in two. To the north lie Deira, Bur Dubai and the Creek, the older Dubai of low buildings and dhows. To the south are Sheikh Zayed Road and the Downtown towers, with the Burj Khalifa visible among them. The two faces are the whole point of the building: you see the city's past and present in one turn of the head.

Be realistic about the height. At 150 m, the Frame is about a third of the height of Levels 124 and 125 on the Burj Khalifa, so the view is from the side of the skyline, not from above it. If a high skyline view is your one wish, our Dubai Frame vs Burj Khalifa comparison explains which to pick, and best views in Dubai puts the options side by side.

Tickets, hours and booking

The Frame is open every day of the year, including weekends and public holidays, from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Hours can change during Ramadan and on holidays. The figures below are approximate; confirm them on the official website.

WhoTicket (about)
AdultAED 50 (about $14)
ChildAED 20
Under threeFree
Person of determinationSpecial ticket; up to two companions can be added at the ticket counter

Prices are rounded and can change. A ticket is valid for the date you book, and one barcode admits one person.

Book ahead for weekends and public holidays. You can buy online, in the Dubai Frame app or at the entrance, but weekends are the days to book ahead. Arrive 10-15 minutes before the time on your ticket. The Frame has a dedicated lift for visitors with limited mobility, and pets are not allowed.

Best time to go

The visit is mostly indoors, so it works in any month. What changes is the view. From November to March the air is clearest and the horizon is sharpest; in summer, haze can soften the distant towers, and a late slot shows more than a midday one. The month-by-month guide covers the weather for the rest of the trip.

For the day, there are three good choices. Opening time at 8:00 AM gives the quietest sky deck and lets you finish before the heat. A slot about 30 minutes before sunset gives you daylight, dusk and the first lights in an hour; the sunset table in our Burj Khalifa timing guide gives the times by month. After dark the lit towers on the south side are the main attraction, but you lose the Old Dubai side. Weekday mornings are the easiest, and weekends in winter are the busiest.

How to get to the Dubai Frame

The Frame stands at Gate 4 of Zabeel Park, bordered by Sheikh Rashid Road, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed Road. The closest Metro station is Al Jafiliya on the Red Line; the station name has carried a sponsor's name in recent years, so follow the Frame signs or check the RTA S'hail app. From the station, Gate 4 is a short walk in winter and a short taxi ride in summer.

From Dubai Marina, the airport and Downtown you stay on the Red Line, so there is no change. The Dubai Metro guide has the stations and fares. By taxi, give the driver Dubai Frame, Zabeel Park Gate 4. The park is close to Karama and the old quarter of Bur Dubai, which makes the Frame a natural start to an Old Dubai day, and the Downtown Dubai area guide shows how far the towers are in the other direction.

What to combine it with, and who should skip it

The Frame sits between the old and the modern city, so it pairs with both. For the old side, the Old Dubai walking tour meets near Sharaf DG Metro station and runs 3-4 hours from $35 per person, and the Old Dubai guide gives a self-guided route. For the modern side, a Burj Khalifa ticket from $55 completes the picture. If you are still choosing between views, Burj Khalifa or Sky Views is the other comparison to read.

Skip the Frame if you have only one view in the budget and want real height, if you are travelling with very small children who will not enjoy a timed route, or if the day is already full. The Museum of the Future, which stands on Sheikh Zayed Road, is closed at present; see the Museum of the Future guide and the museum or Frame comparison for the status.

Is the glass floor at the Dubai Frame scary?

It can be if you dislike heights, because the sky bridge floor is glass and you look straight down from 150 m. Walk slowly, hold the rail and look at the horizon rather than down. Children under 12 must be with an adult, and nobody may sit on the railings.

Where is the Dubai Frame and how do I get there?

At Gate 4 of Zabeel Park. Take the Red Line to Al Jafiliya station, then walk or take a short taxi to Gate 4. By taxi, ask for Dubai Frame, Zabeel Park Gate 4. The park is close to Karama and Bur Dubai.

What is the best time to visit the Dubai Frame?

Can I take a stroller, bags or food into the Dubai Frame?

Small personal handbags are fine. Strollers, large bags, shopping bags and backpacks are kept at the Gate 4 counter, and food and drink are not allowed during the visit. Pets are not allowed either.

Is the Dubai Frame better than the Burj Khalifa?

They are different. The Frame is about a quarter of the price, takes about an hour and shows Old Dubai and the Downtown towers side by side from 150 m. The Burj Khalifa is far higher, from $55 for Levels 124 and 125. Our comparison guide explains who should pick which.
