The six best views in Dubai, ranked

Burj Khalifa, At the Top #1
Levels 124-125, Downtown The highest deck, the Fountain from above

Burj Khalifa, At the Top

The observation levels of the world's tallest building at 828 m: Downtown and Burj Park directly below, the coast, the Palm and the desert edge in one sweep. Tickets from $55 per person with us (SKY on Level 148 from $115), more for the sunset slots, which sell out first. The one thing missing from the view is the Burj Khalifa itself.

Sky Views Observatory #2
Address Sky View, Downtown Burj Khalifa in the frame, cheaper

Sky Views Observatory

The deck across the boulevard that points straight at the Burj Khalifa, so every photo has the tower in it with Downtown and the sea behind. Lower and cheaper than At the Top, and for most first-time visitors the better composition; sunset is the slot to book, with the Burj lighting up as the sky goes.

The View at The Palm #3
52nd floor of the Palm Tower, Palm Jumeirah The only place to see the Palm's shape

The View at The Palm

From the ground the Palm is a road with villas; from the 52nd floor it is the shape on the map, with the fronds, the crescent with Atlantis on it, the Marina skyline across the water and the Burj Al Arab down the coast. About AED 70-100; the late-afternoon slots run into sunset as the Marina lights up.

The skyline from the sea #4
Dubai Marina, JBR and Bluewaters from a yacht The postcard angle, from $32

The skyline from the sea

Every wide photo of Dubai Marina was taken from the water. The 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 per person leaves hourly from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, runs through the canal, along JBR and Bluewaters, stops in front of Ain Dubai and returns with the whole skyline in one line. Golden hour sells out first.

Dubai Frame #5
Zabeel Park Old Dubai on one side, new on the other

Dubai Frame

A picture frame about 150 m tall with a bridge across the top: Deira, the Creek and the low old city in one direction, the towers of Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown in the other. About AED 50 for a cheap and genuinely different half hour; mornings are quietest and clearest.

The desert at sunrise from a balloon #6
Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve Dunes, oryx and the Hajar Mountains from 4,000 feet

The desert at sunrise from a balloon

The view no deck can sell: 40-70 minutes at 2,000-4,000 feet over the reserve at first light, with gazelles, oryx and camels below and the Hajar Mountains on the horizon, then breakfast at a Bedouin camp. $275 per person with pre-dawn hotel pickup; the baskets sell out one to two weeks ahead.

The short answer: which views to pay for and which are free

Dubai has five views worth planning a day around, and only two of them need a ticket over AED 100. Burj Khalifa's At the Top, levels 124-125 of the 828 m tower, from $55 with us, is the highest; Sky Views Observatory on the Address Sky View is the cheaper deck with the Burj itself in the picture; The View at The Palm, on the 52nd floor for about AED 70-100, is the only place to see the Palm's shape; the skyline from the sea costs $32 per person on the 1-hour shared yacht tour; and the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park, about AED 50, shows old Dubai on one side and new Dubai on the other.

Then there are the free ones: Burj Park at the foot of the tower, the Bluewaters footbridge for Ain Dubai, Marina Walk and the canal promenade in Business Bay. And there is the view no deck can sell, the desert at sunrise from 2,000-4,000 feet in a hot air balloon. This guide ranks them all with prices, timing and how to get there, and ends with a two-day plan that collects the best five.

Burj Khalifa vs Sky Views: the Downtown decision

The choice in Downtown is between height and composition. At the Top puts you on levels 124-125 of the tallest building in the world at 828 m, with the Fountain shows tiny on the lake below and the coast, the Palm and the desert edge in one sweep; tickets are from $55 with us (SKY on Level 148 from $115) and more for the sunset slots, which sell out first. The problem with the highest view in Dubai is that the most photographed building in Dubai is not in it.

Sky Views Observatory, on top of the Address Sky View across the boulevard, is lower, cheaper and points straight at the Burj Khalifa, so every photo has the tower in it with Downtown and the sea behind. For most first-time visitors that composition beats the extra height. If you want both, do Sky Views at sunset and go up the Burj in the morning, when the air is clearest. Our Burj Khalifa vs Sky Views comparison has the prices side by side and the slots to book.

Both are on the Red Line: Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, then the 10-15 minute walk along the air-conditioned Metro Link bridge into the mall. Burj Park, the park at the foot of the tower on the edge of Burj Lake, gives the free version of the view at blue hour, with the Fountain shows from about 6 PM every 30 minutes.

The View at The Palm: the only place to see the Palm's shape

From the ground Palm Jumeirah is a road with villas on it; the shape exists only from above. The View at The Palm, on the 52nd floor of the Palm Tower above Nakheel Mall in the middle of the trunk, is where you see it: the fronds, the crescent with Atlantis on it, the Marina and JBR skyline across the water and the Burj Al Arab down the coast. About AED 70-100, and the late-afternoon slots that run into sunset are the ones to book, because the Marina towers light up across the water while you are up there.

Getting there is part of it: the Palm Monorail runs up the trunk from the Gateway station, by the tram's Palm Jumeirah stop, for roughly AED 20-30 return, and the monorail itself is a rolling viewpoint with the Burj Al Arab behind it. Pair the deck with The Pointe and its free Palm Fountain shows in the evening, or with the water: the Palm from the sea is a highlight of every private yacht route, and a 3-hour charter from AED 400 per hour for the boat rounds the Palm lagoon with a swim stop.

From the sea: the skyline the way the postcards were shot

Every wide photo of Dubai Marina you have seen was taken from the water, and it is the cheapest of the big views. The 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 per person leaves hourly from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, glides through the Marina canal between the towers, runs along JBR Beach and Bluewaters Island, stops in front of Ain Dubai for photos and returns with the whole skyline in one line. Chilled water on board, a red carpet at the pier and the crew helping with the photos; check in 20 minutes before departure at Level P of Al Majara Tower with an original passport or Emirates ID.

It is paid in advance, because the hourly slots sell out, and the golden-hour departure goes first. There is no hotel pickup; DMCC station on the Red Line is a short walk or tram ride away. For a group, a private charter from the same pier starts from AED 400 per hour for the whole boat with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included: 2 hours covers the Marina, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai; 3 hours adds the Palm lagoon with a swim stop; 4 hours reaches the Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea, the two views you cannot get from any deck. The Marina yacht route article shows what appears at each stage and how long it takes.

At night the same skyline is lit, and the Dubai Marina yacht party does the long version of it from 9 PM to 1 AM for $99 per person: past Ain Dubai, along JBR, around the Palm lagoon to the Burj Al Arab photo stop and back, with a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks, strictly 21+ with an original ID. Boarding is at 8:30 PM and the ticket is prepaid. The full fleet for private nights on the water is on the yacht page.

Dubai Frame and the free viewpoints

The Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park is a picture frame about 150 m tall with a bridge across the top, and the idea is the view in two directions: Deira, the Creek and the low old city on one side, the towers of Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown on the other. Tickets are about AED 50, it is a cheap and genuinely different half hour, and the mornings are the quietest and clearest.

The free viewpoints deserve a list of their own, because two of them are among the best views in the city.

  • Burj Park, the park at the foot of the tower on the edge of Burj Lake: the classic Burj Khalifa photo, free, best at blue hour with the Fountain from about 6 PM.
  • The Bluewaters footbridge from the end of JBR Beach: Ain Dubai above you, the JBR towers behind, the sunset into the sea.
  • Marina Walk, the loop of about 7 km around the canal: the towers from below at night, the yachts at their berths, Cayan Tower's twist.
  • The Business Bay canal promenade: the Dubai Water Canal with its lit waterfall under the Sheikh Zayed Road bridge, and Burj Khalifa above the water.
  • Al Seef and the abra: the old city from the Creek for AED 1-2, with dhows and wind towers in the frame.
  • The Metro Red Line itself: the front carriage along Sheikh Zayed Road is a moving viewpoint for AED 3-7.5 with a Nol card, double in Gold Class.

Our guide to the best free things to do in Dubai turns these into a full day on the metro.

The desert from above: sunrise in a balloon

The view no deck can sell is the desert at first light. The sunrise hot air balloon lifts off in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve after a pre-dawn pickup from any Dubai hotel, and for 40-70 minutes at 2,000-4,000 feet you watch the dunes turn from grey to gold, with gazelles, oryx and camels below and the Hajar Mountains on the horizon; there is Wi-Fi on board for the live shot. After landing a vintage Land Rover or SUV takes you to a private Bedouin camp for breakfast, a short camel ride and a falcon photo, and the whole outing is 4-5 hours door to door.

It costs $275 per person, a 30% deposit confirms the flight, and the baskets sell out one to two weeks ahead in the cooler months, which is when it flies best. The minimum age is 7, it is not for guests over 80 or with heart or back problems, and flights are weather-dependent: if the GCAA-licensed pilots cancel, you get a full refund or a new date. Bring a passport or a clear copy for the flight manifest, and closed shoes and layers, because the desert is cold before sunrise.

If dawn is too early or the price too high, the same desert at ground level is the full-day desert safari from $45 per person: the view from the top of a Lahbab dune at sunset after 30-45 minutes of dune bashing, then the camp with dinner and the shows. Hotel pickup in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, and no prepayment, so the date is agreed on WhatsApp and paid on the day.

Timing each view: sunset, night and the clear-air mornings

Timing matters more than the ticket. Sunset is about 5:30 PM in December and 7:10 PM in June, and every paid deck sells its sunset slot at a premium and sells it out first; the free viewpoints are best at blue hour, 20-30 minutes after sunset, when the towers light up. Mornings have the clearest air for the long views from the Burj, especially in winter; summer haze in the afternoon can flatten the horizon.

A two-day plan that collects the five best views

Two days, no car, and the five views that matter, in an order that respects the light and the metro.

  • Day 1, morning: Dubai Frame. Zabeel Park at opening, about AED 50, the Creek side first while the air is clear.
  • Day 1, afternoon: Downtown. Red Line to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall; the mall through the heat, Burj Park at blue hour, then a booked sunset slot at Sky Views or the Burj, and the Fountain from about 6 PM.
  • Day 2, morning: the Palm. Tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop, the monorail up the trunk for about AED 20-30 return, The View at The Palm in the morning light, then lunch at The Pointe opposite Atlantis.
  • Day 2, golden hour: the water. Taxi to the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower for the shared yacht hour from $32, on the departure 45-60 minutes before sunset; check in 20 minutes early.
  • Optional dawn on day 3: the balloon. Pre-dawn pickup, 40-70 minutes over the reserve at 2,000-4,000 feet, breakfast at the camp and back at the hotel by late morning; book it 1-2 weeks ahead.

If you are laying out a longer trip around these, our free SB AI planner puts the days on the Dubai map with the tours in the right slots, and the 3-day Dubai itinerary is the version we hand to first-time visitors.

FAQ

What is the best view in Dubai?

For the skyline, from the water: the 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 per person shows the Marina, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai from the angle the postcards use. For height, Burj Khalifa's At the Top on levels 124-125 of the 828 m tower, from $55 with us. For the Palm's shape, The View at The Palm on the 52nd floor, about AED 70-100. For the desert, the sunrise balloon at 2,000-4,000 feet, $275 per person.

Is Burj Khalifa or Sky Views better?

Sky Views for the photo, because the Burj Khalifa is in it, and it costs less; Burj Khalifa for the height, 828 m and levels 124-125, and for having done it. Sunset slots on both cost more and sell out first. Many visitors do Sky Views at sunset and go up the Burj in the morning, when the air is clearest and the queues shortest.

How much is The View at The Palm?

About AED 70-100 per person for the observation deck on the 52nd floor of the Palm Tower above Nakheel Mall; prices change, and we can book it on request on WhatsApp. It is the only place to see the shape of Palm Jumeirah, with the Marina skyline across the water. The Palm Monorail from the Gateway station up the trunk is roughly AED 20-30 return.

Is the Dubai Frame worth it?

Yes, for about AED 50 and half an hour: the bridge across the top of the frame in Zabeel Park looks at old Dubai, the Creek and Deira in one direction and the Sheikh Zayed Road towers in the other. Go in the morning when it is quiet. It does not replace the Burj or Sky Views; it is a different picture, and a cheaper one.

What is the cheapest way to see the Dubai skyline?

Free from Burj Park in Downtown, the Bluewaters footbridge at JBR and Marina Walk. The cheapest paid view is the metro's front carriage along Sheikh Zayed Road for AED 3-7.5 with a Nol card. The cheapest big one is the 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 per person, hourly from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, with the Marina and JBR skyline from the water and a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai.

Can you see the shape of Palm Jumeirah from the ground?

No. From the road or the beach the Palm is a trunk with villas and the crescent with Atlantis on it; the palm shape is only visible from above. The View at The Palm on the 52nd floor is the practical way, about AED 70-100. From the sea, a 3-hour private charter runs round the Palm lagoon, which shows the fronds and the crescent hotels from water level rather than the outline.

What time is best for the Burj Khalifa view?

Early morning for the clearest air and the smallest crowds, or a booked sunset slot for daylight, sunset and the lit city in one ticket; the sunset slots cost more than the daytime ticket, which starts from $55 with us, and sell out first. Sunset is about 5:30 PM in December and 7:10 PM in June, and the Fountain shows start below you at about 6 PM.
