The five water sports at the Umm Suqeim base
#1
Jet ski to the Burj Al Arab
The one where you drive. An instructor rides in front, and the 30-minute route runs past the Jumeirah Beach Hotel to the Burj Al Arab for a photo stop; the hour-long ride at $140 continues to Atlantis on the Palm. Two riders share one jet ski at no extra cost: drivers 16+, passengers from 5.
#2
Parasailing
The view without the work. The crew runs the boat and you rise above the sea off Jumeirah in a harness for 10-12 minutes, alone or side by side with a partner. Each boat trip takes 3-4 flights in turn, so plan about an hour on board. Flyers 15+, about 150 kg per flight; photos are not included.
#3
Flyboard
A skill rather than a ride. Water pumped from a jet ski through a long hose to jets under the board lifts you above the surface, and you balance with your legs for 30 minutes. Riders must be 16 or older and up to about 120 kg. There is one board at the base, so groups take turns; photos and videos are free.
#4
Donut ride
One round inflatable tube, up to four riders, towed by a boat for 30 minutes on the water off the Jumeirah coast. The price is per ride, not per person, so four friends or a family with teenagers pay $37.25 each. Riders from 12, free photos and videos, and $228 with a jet ski for two added.
#5
Wakeboarding
Half an hour behind the boat for one rider aged 15 or over, with an instructor, a safety briefing and a few riding tips first. It is a board sport you learn rather than a ride: falling in is part of it, and after a fall you wait in the sea for the boat to come back round. Free photos and videos; $218 with the jet ski.
Water sports in Dubai: the short answer
From $79 to $149, all from one harbour. The five water sports we book leave from the watersports base at Umm Suqeim harbour in Jumeirah, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and a few minutes from the Burj Al Arab: the jet ski to the Burj Al Arab from $79 per jet ski for 30 minutes, the flyboard at $89 per person, parasailing at $99 solo or $179 for two, wakeboarding at $139 per person and the donut ride at $149 for a tube of up to four. None of them needs a licence or previous experience, and every one starts with a safety briefing from a team that speaks English, French and Arabic.
Who suits which, in a line each: the jet ski for couples and friends who want to drive, parasailing for anyone who wants the view without doing anything, the flyboard for a solo challenge, the donut for a group of four who want one shared ride, and wakeboarding for the sporty one who wants to learn a board sport. Ages start at 5 as a jet ski passenger and 12 for the donut, then 15 for parasailing and wakeboarding, and 16 to drive a jet ski or ride the flyboard. Any two fit into one morning with a 30-minute break between them.
Prices, ages and times in one table
These are the prices and rules from the five booking pages, side by side. Look at how each one is priced, per jet ski, per person, per flight or per tube: once there are two or four of you, that matters more than the headline number.
| Activity | Price | On the water | Age | Weight | Free photos |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jet ski to the Burj Al Arab | From $79 per jet ski (30 min), $140 (60 min); up to 2 riders | 30 or 60 min | Driver 16+, passenger 5+ | Combined weight of 2 riders checked at booking | Yes |
| Parasailing | $99 solo, $179 tandem for two | 10-12 min in the air, about 1 h on the boat | 15+ | About 150 kg per flight | No (GoPro rental AED 150) |
| Flyboard | $89 per person | 30 min, riders take turns | 16+ | Up to about 120 kg | Yes |
| Donut ride | $149 per ride, up to 4 riders | 30 min | 12+ | Ages and weights checked at booking | Yes |
| Wakeboarding | $139 per person | 30 min, one rider | 15+ | Height and weight checked at booking | Yes |
The jet ski price is for early-morning and midday slots; afternoon slots cost more, and we confirm the exact price before payment. No pregnant guests and no children under 5 on any activity.
Two prices in the table deserve a second look. The jet ski is priced per machine and takes a second rider free, so two people pay $79 together, $39.50 each, the lowest price per head for a pair. The donut is priced per tube: $149 for one rider is poor value, $149 for four is $37.25 each, the lowest per head at the base. Everything else is a per-person price, and the $179 parasailing tandem saves a couple $19 on two solo flights, as long as their combined weight is within the limit.
For the detail on ID, weight checks, swimming and who should sit out, see the age, weight and safety rules guide.
The five activities, one by one
Here is what each one actually is, how long it takes at the harbour and who books it. Each has its own guide if you want more.
- Jet ski to the Burj Al Arab, from $79. You drive, the instructor rides in front. The 30-minute route runs out of the harbour, past the Jumeirah Beach Hotel to the Burj Al Arab for a photo stop and back; the 60-minute ride at $140 continues to Atlantis on the Palm, and 2-hour rides are arranged on request for groups of 4 jet skis or more. Allow about an hour at the harbour for the 30-minute ride and 1.5 hours for the 60-minute one. The jet ski guide covers the route, the speed and the slots.
- Parasailing, $99 solo or $179 for two. You sit in a harness behind a boat and rise above the sea off Jumeirah for 10-12 minutes, alone or side by side as a tandem. The boat takes 3-4 flights in turn, so you spend about an hour on board and about 1.5 hours at the harbour in all. It is the only activity at the base without free photos. More in the parasailing guide.
- Flyboard, $89 per person. A board with boots, connected by a long hose to a jet ski that pumps water to jets under your feet; the thrust lifts you above the surface and you balance with your legs. The session lasts 30 minutes, and with one board at the base a group goes one rider after another. The flyboard guide has the details.
- Donut ride, $149 per tube. Up to four people ride one round inflatable tube while a boat tows it for 30 minutes off the Jumeirah coast. It is the one group ride at the base and, at 12+, the first activity a child can do as a rider rather than as a jet ski passenger. The donut ride guide covers who fits on one tube.
- Wakeboarding, $139 per person. Thirty minutes riding a board behind the boat with an instructor, one rider per session, after a safety briefing and a few riding tips. Being comfortable in the water helps, because falls are part of learning. Plan on about an hour at the harbour. If it is your first time, read wakeboarding for beginners.
If you are torn between the three headline activities, the jet ski, parasailing and the flyboard, our jet ski vs parasailing vs flyboard comparison weighs effort, nerves, photos and cost per head, and ends with a clear pick for each kind of group.
Two in one morning: combos and the 30-minute rule
Every activity runs from the same base, so you can do two on one day. The one rule is a 30-minute break between activities: you come off the water, dry off, collect your photos and go again. Wakeboarding plus the jet ski, for example, takes about two hours at the harbour, check-in included; any pair with parasailing takes longer, because the parasailing boat trip alone lasts about an hour.
Three combos are priced as packages, each adding the 30-minute jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab after the break:
- Flyboard + jet ski: $168. The flyboard session, the break, then the coast to the Burj Al Arab. The jet ski takes two, so a couple can both fly and share one jet ski for $257.
- Wakeboarding + jet ski: $218. One rider on the board, then up to two on the jet ski. A 15-year-old can wakeboard but joins the jet ski only as a passenger behind a driver aged 16 or over.
- Donut ride + jet ski: $228. The tube for up to four, plus one jet ski for two. If all four want the jet ski too, add a second one from $79: $307 in all, about $77 each.
- Parasailing + jet ski: booked as two. There is no package price, but the same 30-minute rule applies: $99 for a solo flight or $179 for a tandem, plus from $79 for the jet ski.
The $79 jet ski price inside every combo is for early-morning and midday slots; afternoon slots cost more, and we confirm the exact total before you pay. A third activity can be added the same way, with another 30-minute break; ask us on WhatsApp for the price.
When to go: season, time of day and the sea
October to April is the comfortable season on the water, warm enough to get wet and mild enough to wait on the harbour in comfort. From May to September Dubai is hot, and the early slots are the coolest of the day: thirty minutes on the sea is easy in summer, standing around a harbour at midday much less so, so book the morning.
Time of day also moves the jet ski price. The from-$79 rate applies to early-morning and midday slots, and afternoon slots cost more, so for the jet ski and every combo built on it, a morning or midday slot is the better-value choice.
Everything depends on the sea. If it is too rough, or too windy for parasailing, your slot moves to another available one, and if none fits your dates, the payment is refunded in full. That is a good reason to book water sports early in your trip rather than on your last morning: it leaves room to move.
Mixed ages: one plan for the whole family
For a family the ages decide the options before the price does. No child under 5 and no pregnant guest joins any activity. From 5 a child can ride the jet ski as a passenger behind a driver aged 16 or over, from 12 the donut ride opens, from 15 parasailing and wakeboarding, and at 16 everything, including driving the jet ski and the flyboard. Weights, swimming and health rules for each age are in the safety rules guide linked above.
The trick with mixed ages is to pick the activity that takes the youngest, then add one for the older ones. A family with a 10-year-old and a 14-year-old, for example, can take the donut and jet ski combo for $228: the 14-year-old and both parents on the tube, then one parent drives the jet ski to the Burj Al Arab with the 10-year-old behind. Tell us everyone's ages and approximate weights when you book, and we confirm the plan with the base before you pay.
Getting there, what to bring and how booking works
The meeting point is Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour (Fishing Harbour 2) on Jumeirah Road in Umm Suqeim 2, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. It is not JBR, the Jumeirah Beach Residence at the Marina end of the coast, which is an easy mix-up. There is no hotel pickup: take a taxi or Careem to the harbour, or the Metro Red Line to Mall of the Emirates and a short taxi from there, since no Metro runs along the beach road. The exact pin comes with your booking, and the Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab area guide covers the neighbourhood if you want to make a day of it.
- Arrive 20 minutes early for check-in and the briefing; late arrivals go out only at the base's discretion.
- An original passport or Emirates ID for every participant. It is a Dubai maritime rule, and copies or photos on a phone are not accepted.
- Swimwear, a towel and sunscreen. Lockers, changing rooms and showers are at the base.
- Your phone, for the photos. The free photos and videos of the jet ski, flyboard, donut ride and wakeboarding are sent by AirDrop or WhatsApp before you leave and are not kept after 24 hours. Parasailing has no free photos; a GoPro can be rented for AED 150, subject to availability.
Booking is one WhatsApp conversation: we agree the activity and the slot, and full prepayment confirms it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. One note on the view: the Burj Al Arab is closed for restoration until about late 2027, so the jet ski shows it from the sea, where its sail-shaped exterior stays in full view. If you only book one thing, the jet ski to the Burj Al Arab is the ride to start with.
FAQ
How much do water sports cost in Dubai?
From $79. At the Umm Suqeim base in Jumeirah the jet ski is from $79 per jet ski for 30 minutes with up to 2 riders ($140 for 60 minutes), the flyboard $89 per person, parasailing $99 solo or $179 for two, wakeboarding $139 per person and the donut ride $149 for a tube of up to four. Combos with the 30-minute jet ski cost $168 with the flyboard, $218 with wakeboarding and $228 with the donut.
Which water sport is best for beginners in Dubai?
None of the five needs experience or a licence, and each starts with a safety briefing. The jet ski is the simplest start if you want to drive: you go at your own pace behind an instructor. Parasailing asks the least of you, since the crew runs the boat and you only sit in the harness. The flyboard and wakeboarding are skills you learn during the session, so expect more effort and a few falls.
What is the minimum age for water sports in Dubai?
It depends on the activity: 5 as a jet ski passenger, 12 for the donut ride, 15 for parasailing and wakeboarding, and 16 to drive a jet ski or ride the flyboard. No child under 5 and no pregnant guest can join any activity at the base.
Can I do two water sports on the same day?
Yes. All five start from the same harbour, and the base keeps a 30-minute break between activities. The package prices are flyboard plus jet ski $168, wakeboarding plus jet ski $218 and donut ride plus jet ski $228; parasailing and the jet ski are booked as two activities, $99 or $179 plus from $79.
Where do the water sports start? Is there a hotel pickup?
At Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour (Fishing Harbour 2) on Jumeirah Road, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, not at JBR. There is no hotel pickup; we send the exact pin after booking. Arrive 20 minutes before your slot with an original passport or Emirates ID for everyone taking part.
Are photos and videos included?
Yes for the jet ski, flyboard, donut ride and wakeboarding: the team shoots them free and sends them by AirDrop or WhatsApp before you leave. Collect them at the base, because they are not kept after 24 hours. Parasailing has no free photos; a GoPro can be rented for AED 150, subject to availability.
What happens if the sea is too rough?
Your slot moves to another available one, and if none fits your dates, you get a full refund. Otherwise cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. Booking water sports early in your trip leaves room to move if the sea does not cooperate.
