A wakeboard session in Dubai costs from $139 per person: 30 minutes for one rider behind a boat on the sea off Jumeirah, with a safety briefing, a few riding tips, an instructor and free photos and videos. You need to be 15 or older; experience is not on the base's list of requirements, so just tell us your level when you book. The hard part for a beginner is the start from deep water, and this guide walks through it. With a 30-minute jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab, it is $218.

Five ways to plan a wakeboard morning
#1
On your own: 30 minutes behind the boat
The session itself: check-in at Umm Suqeim harbour 20 minutes before your slot, a safety briefing and riding tips, then out by boat for 30 minutes on the sea off Jumeirah with an instructor. It is one rider per session, so you never share the rope, and the team photographs and films your ride for free.
#2
The top pick: wakeboard plus the jet ski
After your session and a 30-minute break, a 30-minute jet ski ride leaves from the same harbour, past the Jumeirah Beach Hotel to the Burj Al Arab and back. The jet ski takes a second rider at no extra cost, so a partner who does not wakeboard still gets the ride. Allow about two hours at the harbour for both.
#3
Two riders: a session each
Wakeboarding is one rider per session, so two people book a session each at $139 per rider, and we agree both times with the base. Add one 30-minute jet ski at $79, which takes you both, and the morning comes to $357. Tell us both riders' height, weight and experience when booking, and we confirm the sessions with the base before you pay.
#4
Both boards: wakeboard and flyboard on one day
The base runs both, and activities can be combined on one day with a 30-minute break between them. The wakeboard asks you to ride sideways behind a boat; the flyboard lifts you above the water on jets fed through a hose from a jet ski. Our flyboard guide explains that side; ask us on WhatsApp for the price of the pair.
#5
Under 15 in the group: the donut ride
A 14-year-old cannot wakeboard yet, but the donut ride takes up to 4 riders aged 12 and over on an inflatable tube behind a boat for 30 minutes, $149 for the whole ride, photos and videos included. It starts from the same harbour, so a family can split: one on the board, the rest on the tube. The donut ride guide has the details.
Wakeboarding in Dubai: the short answer
From $139 per person for 30 minutes. That is a wakeboard session for one rider behind a boat on the sea off Jumeirah, from the watersports base at Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The price includes a safety briefing and a few riding tips before you go out, an instructor for the session, and photos and videos of your ride at no extra cost. Riders must be 15 or older.
Can a complete beginner do it? The base asks for riders aged 15 or over with an original ID; previous experience is not on its list of requirements. Tell us your level when you book, first time or already riding, along with your height and weight, and we confirm the session with the base before you pay. Expect the first minutes to be about getting up out of the water; the sections below explain how that works and how to make it happen sooner.
Boat, not cable park: what this session is
Search for wakeboarding in Dubai and you will find two different things under the same word. A cable park tows riders around a lake on an overhead cable, lap after lap, often with several riders on the cable at once. A boat session puts one rider on a rope behind a boat on open water, and when you fall, the boat comes back round for you.
What we book is the boat session from Umm Suqeim harbour, not a cable park. It is the sea off the Jumeirah coast rather than a lake, it is one rider per session, and an instructor runs your half hour. If you have tried a cable park elsewhere and want that format, it is a different booking from this one; if you want to ride behind a boat with the Jumeirah coastline beside you, this is it.
Your first 30 minutes behind the boat
Arrive at the harbour 20 minutes before your slot with an original passport or Emirates ID. After check-in the team gives the safety briefing and a few riding tips, in English, French or Arabic, and you head out by boat. Behind a boat, a ride usually starts in the water: you float with the board on your feet, the handle comes to you, and the boat pulls away while you hold on.
Expect to fall on your first starts; falling in is part of wakeboarding. You let go of the handle, wait in the sea, and the boat comes back round to give you the rope again. Each attempt is a chance to adjust what the instructor told you, and once you are up, the rest of the half hour is about staying up: riding straight behind the boat, then edging gently from side to side.
Thirty minutes sounds short, but it is a real workout for arms, legs and grip, and the team photographs and films the whole session. Before you leave the harbour, collect the files on your phone by AirDrop or WhatsApp; they are not kept after 24 hours. Plan on about an hour at the harbour in all, or about two with the jet ski add-on.
Beginner technique: how to get up on a wakeboard
The deep-water start is the one skill a first session is built around. These are the classic points beginners are taught; the team at the base gives its own tips in the briefing, and theirs come first on the day.
- Sit back in the water, knees to your chest. The board sits in front of you on its edge, across the direction of the boat, with the rope running between your feet.
- Keep your arms straight. Hold the handle in front of your knees and let the boat do the pulling. Pulling the handle towards you is the usual way to tip over the front.
- Let it lift you, then stand slowly. Stay in a crouch as the board comes up onto the water, and only straighten your legs once you are riding on top of it.
- Turn sideways. As you rise, let the board rotate so your front foot points towards the boat, the way you stand on a snowboard or a skateboard. Not sure which foot leads? It is usually the one you step forward with when someone gives you a gentle push from behind.
- Weight on the back foot, knees soft. Keep the handle low by your front hip and your eyes on the horizon, not on the board.
- When you fall, let go. Drop the handle straight away and wait for the boat to come round. Holding on is how a small fall turns into a mouthful of sea.
If you snowboard, surf or skate, you may recognise the stance sooner, because a wakeboard is ridden sideways in the same way. If you have done none of those, the start from the water is the same lesson anyway.
Wakeboard or flyboard for a first try?
The two board sports at the base are easy to mix up, but they ask for different things. The wakeboard is ridden on the water, towed by a boat; the flyboard lifts you above it on jets fed through a hose from a jet ski. The table puts them side by side.
| What matters | Wakeboarding | Flyboard |
|---|---|---|
| Price | From $139 per person | From $89 per person |
| Session | 30 minutes, one rider behind the boat | 30 minutes; one board, riders take turns |
| Minimum age | 15 | 16 |
| Weight | No limit given; tell us height and weight | Up to about 120 kg |
| What powers you | The boat, through the rope | A jet ski, through a hose to jets under the board |
| Stance | Sideways, like a snowboard | Facing forward, feet side by side in boots |
| The hard part | The start from deep water | Balance once the board lifts |
| Photos and videos | Free | Free |
| With the 30-minute jet ski | $218 | $168 |
Both sessions start at the watersports base in Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour and include a safety briefing and an instructor. Jet ski combo prices are for early-morning and midday jet ski slots.
Pick the wakeboard if you snowboard, surf or skate, if you want a sport you can carry on with at home, or if the rider is 15, since the flyboard starts at 16. Pick the flyboard if you want the moment of standing above the sea, or the lower price. And if you cannot choose, the base runs both on the same day with a 30-minute break between them; the flyboard guide covers that session in the same detail as this one.
Price, the jet ski combo and the rules
The session is $139 per person, one rider, 30 minutes, with the briefing, the instructor and the photos and videos included. The top pick adds a 30-minute jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab from the same harbour after a 30-minute break, $218 for both, and the jet ski takes a second rider at no extra cost. The $79 jet ski inside that total is the early-morning and midday price; afternoon jet ski slots cost more, and we confirm the exact figure before payment.
The ride goes past the Jumeirah Beach Hotel to the Burj Al Arab, which is closed for restoration until about late 2027; from the sea its sail-shaped exterior is still in view. If the jet ski is the part you are most excited about, the jet ski guide has the longer 60-minute route on to Atlantis. The rules for the wakeboard itself are short:
- Age: 15 or older to wakeboard. For the jet ski add-on the driver must be 16 or older, so a 15-year-old can ride the jet ski only as a passenger behind a driver aged 16 or over.
- Weight: the base has not given us a limit. Tell us your height and weight when booking, and we confirm the session suits you before you pay.
- Pregnancy and young children: wakeboarding is not allowed during pregnancy, and no activity at the base takes children under 5.
- Swimming: being comfortable in the water helps, because every fall ends in the sea. If you cannot swim, tell us when booking and we check with the base.
- Documents: an original passport or Emirates ID for every participant, under Dubai maritime rules. Copies and photos on a phone are not accepted.
The age, weight and safety rules guide puts these next to the limits for every other activity at the base.
What to wear, getting there and booking
Dress to fall in, because you will.
- Swimwear or board shorts you do not mind falling in, secure enough to stay put when you hit the water.
- Towel and sunscreen. Put the sunscreen on before you arrive, so your hands are not slippery on the handle.
- An original passport or Emirates ID, the physical document, for every participant.
- Your phone, to receive the free photos and videos by AirDrop or WhatsApp before you leave. The base has lockers, changing rooms and showers, so your phone and clothes stay dry while you ride.
The meeting point is Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour, Umm Suqeim 2, on Jumeirah Road next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. It is in Jumeirah, not at JBR near Dubai Marina, and there is no hotel pickup: we send the exact pin after booking, and a taxi or Careem gets you there. Arrive 20 minutes before your slot; late arrivals are accepted only at the base's discretion. The Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab area guide covers what else is nearby for the rest of the day.
October to April is the comfortable season on the water; from May to September book the early slot, the coolest of the day. Booking is on WhatsApp: we agree the time, full prepayment confirms it, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. If the sea is too rough, we move your session to another slot, or refund you in full if none fits your dates. For everything else that runs from the harbour, see water sports in Dubai; when you are ready, book the wakeboard session.
FAQ
How much does wakeboarding cost in Dubai?
From $139 per person for a 30-minute session behind the boat: one rider, a safety briefing and riding tips, an instructor, and free photos and videos. Beginners can book: the base asks for riders aged 15 or older, and previous experience is not on its list. Can a complete beginner go wakeboarding in Dubai?
Yes, as far as the base's requirements go: riders must be 15 or older with an original ID, and previous experience is not on the list. The team gives a safety briefing and riding tips, and an instructor runs your 30 minutes. Tell us your level when booking so we can pass it on.
Is it a cable park or behind a boat?
Behind a boat. We book the boat session on the sea off Jumeirah from Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour, one rider per session, not a cable park on a lake.
What is the minimum age, and is there a weight limit?
Riders must be 15 or older. The base has not given us a weight limit for wakeboarding, so tell us your height and weight when booking and we confirm the session with the base before you pay. Wakeboarding is not allowed during pregnancy.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Being comfortable in the water helps: falling in is part of wakeboarding, and after a fall you wait in the sea for the boat to come back round. If you cannot swim, tell us when booking and we check with the base before you pay.
Is wakeboarding or flyboarding easier for a first time?
They are hard in different places. On a wakeboard the challenge is the start from deep water; once you are up, the stance is close to snowboarding. On a flyboard the jets do the lifting and the challenge is balance above the water. The flyboard is cheaper, from $89, and starts at 16; wakeboarding is $139 and starts at 15.
What should I wear for wakeboarding?
Swimwear or board shorts you do not mind falling in, plus a towel and sunscreen. Bring an original passport or Emirates ID and your phone for the free photos and videos; the base has lockers, changing rooms and showers.
Where is the meeting point?
Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour on Jumeirah Road, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, in Jumeirah rather than at JBR. There is no hotel pickup; we send the exact pin after booking. Arrive 20 minutes before your slot.
