Five ways to book a flyboard morning

On your own: the 30-minute session #1
$89 per person, 30 minutes, ages 16+ A first try, solo travellers, the video

On your own: the 30-minute session

The plain session: check-in 20 minutes before your slot, the safety briefing and a few tips, then 30 minutes on the board with an instructor while the jet ski at the other end of the hose supplies the power. Photos and videos of your session are free; collect them by AirDrop or WhatsApp before you leave the harbour.

The top pick: flyboard plus the jet ski #2
$168, flyboard first, jet ski after a 30-minute break Anyone who wants the Burj Al Arab from the sea too

The top pick: flyboard plus the jet ski

Your flyboard session, a 30-minute break, then a 30-minute jet ski ride along the Jumeirah coast to the Burj Al Arab and back, $168 in all. The jet ski takes up to 2 riders, so a partner rides along at no extra cost. The price holds for early-morning and midday jet ski slots; afternoon slots cost more.

A couple: two sessions, one shared jet ski #3
$257 for two flyboard sessions and one jet ski Couples and pairs of friends who both want to fly

A couple: two sessions, one shared jet ski

With one board at the base, you fly one after the other, 30 minutes each, while the other waits at the harbour. Two sessions at $89 plus one 30-minute jet ski at $79 that you share comes to $257. If only one of you wants the board, the $168 top pick already puts both of you on the jet ski.

Friends: one board, everyone takes a turn #4
$89 per rider, sessions back to back Groups planning a morning at the harbour

Friends: one board, everyone takes a turn

Four friends pay $356 for four sessions, and because there is one board the turns run one after another, about two hours of flying in all, with lockers, changing rooms and showers at the base for whoever is between turns. The spiral in this photo is an advanced trick; a first session is about learning to stand and hover.

The other board: wakeboarding #5
$139 per person, 30 minutes behind the boat, ages 15+ Snowboarders, skaters, a 15-year-old in the group

The other board: wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is the other board sport at the same base: one rider, 30 minutes towed behind a boat with an instructor, photos and videos free. It suits anyone who already rides sideways on snow or a skateboard, and it is the only board open to a 15-year-old, since the flyboard starts at 16. Our beginner wakeboarding guide compares the two.

Flyboarding in Dubai: the short answer

From $89 per person for 30 minutes. That is the price of a flyboard session at the watersports base in Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour, on Jumeirah Road next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and a few minutes from the Burj Al Arab. It includes the safety briefing and a few tips before you start, an instructor for the session, and photos and videos of your flight at no extra cost. Riders must be 16 or older and weigh no more than about 120 kg, and no previous experience is needed.

It suits first-timers who want to try something they have only seen in videos, and friends who are happy to take turns: the base has one board, so a group flies one rider at a time, 30 minutes each. The top pick adds a 30-minute jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab after a 30-minute break, $168 in all. If you are still choosing between the activities at the base, the guide to water sports in Dubai lays out all five; this one is about the flyboard only.

How a flyboard works

A flyboard is a board with boots, joined by a long hose to a jet ski. The jet ski pumps water down the hose to jets under the board, and the thrust of those jets lifts you above the surface. The power comes from the other end of the hose; your job is balance, done with your legs and feet, a little like standing on a moving bus without holding the rail.

That is why the photos look the way they do: a rider standing on columns of spray with a black hose curling back into the sea. There is one board at the base, so it flies one rider at a time: in a group, each person has their own 30 minutes while the others wait their turn at the harbour.

Before you get on, the team gives the safety briefing and a few tips in English, French or Arabic, and an instructor runs the session from there. You start in the water with your feet in the boots, and you finish there too: every flight begins and ends with a splash.

Is flyboarding hard? What the first session is really like

Harder than it looks for the first few minutes. Expect your first attempts to end in the water: the board lifts, your body tips one way, and you are back in the sea. The water is the soft landing, and a fall is part of the session rather than a sign it is going badly. The aim of a first half hour is to get up above the water, wobbling but upright, and stay there a little longer on each attempt.

It is balance more than strength. The jets do the lifting, so what tires you is the small, constant work of keeping the board level under your feet: legs, hips and core. If you skate, surf, ski or snowboard, the feeling may be familiar sooner, but none of that is required: no previous experience is needed. These are the classic beginner points; the tips the team gives you in the briefing come first on the day:

  • Stand tall. Keep your legs nearly straight and your body upright; bending at the waist tips the board, and you with it.
  • Look ahead, not down. Eyes on the horizon, not on your feet. Staring at the board is the quickest way to end up in the water next to it.
  • Keep movements small. The board reacts to tiny changes in foot pressure, and over-correcting is the usual way in.
  • Use your arms, then relax them. Hold them out for balance at first; once the board settles, let them drop and wave for the camera.
  • Fall away from the board. When you are going, go: let yourself drop into the water rather than fighting it on the way down.

If you want the honest comparison: on the jet ski you sit, steer and follow the instructor; on a parasail the crew runs the boat and you drive nothing; the flyboard is the one that takes a few falls before it pays off. The jet ski vs parasailing vs flyboard comparison goes through that choice in full.

Flyboard prices in Dubai: what you pay

The session is priced per person, and the combo is simply the session plus the jet ski you add. Here is what the common bookings cost at the Umm Suqeim base.

BookingWhat you getPrice
Flyboard session30 minutes on the board, briefing, instructor, photos and videos$89 per person
Top pick: flyboard + jet skiFlyboard session, 30-minute break, 30-minute jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab for up to 2 riders$168
One flies, one rides alongThe top pick, with the partner on the jet ski$168 for both
Two people, both on the boardTwo sessions one after the other, plus one shared 30-minute jet ski$257
Four friends, all on the boardFour sessions in turn, about 2 hours of flying$356
Jet ski only30 minutes to the Burj Al Arab, up to 2 ridersFrom $79 per jet ski

Jet ski prices are for early-morning and midday slots; afternoon jet ski slots cost more, and we confirm the exact total before payment. Photos and videos are free on both the flyboard and the jet ski.

Two things are worth knowing before you book. The $79 inside the combo is the morning and midday jet ski price, so the $168 assumes you ride before the afternoon; with an afternoon jet ski slot the total is higher, and we tell you the exact figure on WhatsApp before you pay. And the other activities at the base, parasailing, the donut ride and wakeboarding, can be added on the same day with the same 30-minute break between them; ask us for the price of the pair.

Who can flyboard: age, weight and the rules

The rules are short. Riders must be 16 or older and weigh no more than about 120 kg. Flyboarding is not allowed during pregnancy. If you cannot swim, tell us when booking: we check with the base before you pay whether the session suits you, rather than finding out at the harbour.

Every participant needs an original passport or Emirates ID, the physical document; copies and photos on a phone are not accepted. It is a Dubai maritime rule, and it applies to anyone going on the water, including a partner who only rides the jet ski afterwards. The jet ski driver must be 16 or older, and a passenger at least 5.

A family with a 15-year-old will find the flyboard closed to them for another year, but wakeboarding starts at 15 and the donut ride at 12. The age, weight and safety rules guide sets out every activity at the base side by side.

What to wear and bring

You will be in and out of the sea for half an hour, so dress for swimming, not for the photos.

  • Swimwear that stays put. You will fall in more than once, and the jets push water up around you; a one-piece or snug shorts beat anything loose.
  • Towel and sunscreen. Put the sunscreen on before you arrive; the sun off the water in Jumeirah is strong all year.
  • An original passport or Emirates ID for every participant, without exception.
  • Your phone, charged. The free photos and videos come by AirDrop or WhatsApp before you leave, and they are not kept after 24 hours.
  • Nothing you would mind losing. Leave jewellery, sunglasses and watches on shore; the base has lockers, changing rooms and showers.

The morning at Umm Suqeim: timing, getting there and booking

The meeting point is Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour (Fishing Harbour 2) in Umm Suqeim 2, on Jumeirah Road next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. It is in Jumeirah, not at JBR, the beach district with a similar name near Dubai Marina. There is no hotel pickup; we send the exact pin after booking, and a taxi or Careem is the simple way there. The Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab area guide covers what else is around the harbour.

Arrive 20 minutes before your slot for check-in and the briefing; late arrivals are taken only at the base's discretion. Then it is 30 minutes on the board and a few minutes to collect your photos, so the flyboard alone fits easily into a morning. With the jet ski add-on, add the 30-minute break and the 30-minute ride along the coast to the Burj Al Arab. The hotel is closed for restoration until about late 2027, but its sail-shaped exterior is still in view from the sea.

October to April is the comfortable season on the water. From May to September the heat builds through the day, so book the early slot: it is the coolest, and it is also when the jet ski in the combo costs $79.

Booking is on WhatsApp: we agree the time, and full prepayment confirms your slot. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the session. If the sea is too rough to fly, we move you to another available slot, and if none fits your dates, you get a full refund. If you want the jet ski as more than an add-on, the jet ski guide has the 60-minute ride on to Atlantis; if you would rather start on the boat-towed board, read the beginner wakeboarding guide. When you are ready, book the flyboard.

FAQ

How much does flyboarding cost in Dubai?

From $89 per person for a 30-minute session at the watersports base in Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour, with a safety briefing, an instructor and free photos and videos. The top pick adds a 30-minute jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab after a 30-minute break, $168 in all; the jet ski takes up to 2 riders, and that price applies to early-morning and midday jet ski slots.

Is flyboarding hard for beginners?

It takes a few falls, and that is normal. The jet ski supplies the power through the hose, so the skill is balance: stand tall, look ahead and keep your movements small. No previous experience is needed: the team gives a safety briefing and tips before you start, and an instructor runs the 30-minute session.

What is the age and weight limit for flyboarding in Dubai?

Riders must be 16 or older and weigh no more than about 120 kg. Flyboarding is not allowed during pregnancy, and every rider needs an original passport or Emirates ID, not a copy or a photo on a phone.

Do I need to be able to swim to flyboard?

Tell us when booking if you cannot swim: we check with the base before you pay whether the session suits you. Expect to spend a good part of the half hour in the water, since every flight starts there and every fall ends there.

Can two people flyboard at the same time?

No. The base has one board, so riders take turns, each with their own 30 minutes, while the others wait at the harbour. Two people who both fly and then share one 30-minute jet ski pay $257 together.

Are photos and videos included?

Yes, free of charge for the flyboard session and for the jet ski ride in the top pick. Collect them by AirDrop or WhatsApp before you leave the base: the files are not kept after 24 hours.

Where does the flyboard start, and is there a hotel pickup?

At Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour (Fishing Harbour 2) on Jumeirah Road, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, in Jumeirah rather than at JBR. There is no hotel pickup; we send the exact pin after booking. Arrive 20 minutes before your slot.

What happens if the sea is too rough?

We move your session to another available slot, and if none fits your dates, we refund your payment in full. Booking is on WhatsApp with full prepayment, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the session.
