For one to four people the yacht party is the cheaper night on the water: $99 per person for four hours with a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks, 21+ only, from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower at 9 PM. From about five guests a private charter overtakes it: the smallest boat is AED 400 per hour for the whole boat, so six friends pay AED 267 each for four hours, ten pay AED 160, and a full 62 ft yacht comes down to AED 92 a head for two hours. Here is the maths, then the vibe, the control and the rules.

Tour on this route: Dubai Marina Yacht Party — $99 per person, 4 hours (9 pm-1 am).
Is a yacht party or a private yacht cheaper in Dubai?
Per person, the party is cheaper for groups of one to four: $99 each (about AED 365) for four hours with a live BBQ, unlimited soft drinks and a DJ. From five guests a private 31 ft boat at AED 400 per hour works out at AED 320 each for four hours, or AED 240 for the 3-hour minimum, without food. From ten guests a 40 ft boat is AED 120-160 a head, and a full 62-64 ft yacht comes down to AED 77-96 for two hours.

The four ways to spend an evening on the water
#1
The yacht party
A floating nightclub: 25-45 guests, a live DJ playing house, R&B and chart hits, a live BBQ from the grill and unlimited soft drinks, cruising past Ain Dubai, the Palm and Burj Al Arab lit up at night. Boarding 8:30 PM at the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, departure 9 PM sharp, original ID mandatory.
#2
A private 31-40 ft boat
The cheapest way onto the water as a group: AED 1,200 for three hours, AED 120-200 a head, with captain, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included. Open-deck sports boats rather than yachts, so bring hats and sunscreen, but the Marina loop and a Palm swim stop are both within reach.
#3
A private 48-65 ft yacht
A cabin, a saloon, a sun deck and a crew of one to three: the Orion for 12 from AED 800 an hour, Libra for 24, Pisces for 25 and Aries for 30 from AED 1,150. Filled to capacity these are the cheapest evenings per head of all, from AED 77 for two hours, and the classic sunset-with-a-cake charter.
#4
An 80-125 ft party-sized charter
For when the group is bigger than the party itself: the X8 houseboat takes 60 guests for AED 2,800 an hour, Solana 60 and Aura 55 from AED 3,500, and the X15 event yacht 190 from AED 11,250. Your guest list, catering ordered in advance, and the Marina at night from a deck nobody else is on.
Party or private: the short answer
Book the yacht party if you are 21 or over, there are one to four of you, and you want a night out: a live DJ, a live BBQ, 25-45 other guests and four hours of city lights for $99 per person, with nothing else to organise. Book a private charter if there are five or more of you, if anyone in the group is under 21, or if you want daylight, a swim stop and a deck that belongs to your group alone. The smallest boat starts at AED 400 per hour for the whole boat, so from about five guests the private option is already cheaper per head than the party, before food.
Those are the two rules of thumb. The rest of this guide is the maths behind them, cost per person by group size and by hours, and then the four things that decide it when the price is close: the vibe on board, the control you get over the evening, the rules on age, ID and drinks, and how the two fit into one trip.
The two formats side by side
Both leave from Dubai Marina, both show you the same coast, and that is where the similarities end. Everything below comes from the two booking pages and the charter terms, so it is what actually happens on the night rather than what a brochure promises.
| Yacht party | Private charter | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $99 per person, everything included | From AED 400 per hour for the boat (31 ft); from AED 800 per hour for a 48 ft yacht |
| Length | 4 hours, 9 PM to about 1 AM | Your choice above the minimum: 2 hours on most 48-65 ft yachts, 3 hours on boats up to 40 ft and on 70 ft and above, 4 hours on superyachts |
| Who is on board | 25-45 guests, an international crowd, 21+ only | Your group only, 6 to 190 guests depending on the boat |
| Food and drinks | Live BBQ, unlimited water, soft drinks and selected juices; nothing from outside | Water, ice and soft drinks included; bring your own drinks (alcohol for guests 21+) and dry food; catering ordered in advance |
| Music | Live DJ: house, R&B and chart hits | No DJ and no one else's playlist |
| Route | Fixed: Bluewaters and Ain Dubai, JBR, Dubai Harbour, the Palm lagoon, a Burj Al Arab photo stop | Agreed with the captain: 2 h Marina loop, 3 h with a Palm swim stop, 4 h to Burj Al Arab and Atlantis |
| Swimming | No: a night cruise, swimwear not permitted | Yes, in daylight at anchor off the Palm or JBR |
| Age | Strictly 21+, original ID or passport | All ages; under-10s in life jackets, under-21s with an adult |
| Payment | Full prepayment; free cancellation up to 24 hours before | Confirmed with the marina on WhatsApp before any payment; 50% retained if you cancel up to 48 hours before, 100% within 24 hours |
| Departure | 8:30 PM boarding at the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, leaves 9 PM sharp | The marina lounge at Al Majara Tower, 20-30 minutes before your slot; superyachts from Dubai Harbour |
Read down the right-hand column and almost every line says the same thing: your choice. Read down the left and every line is fixed. That is the real difference. The party is a finished product; the charter is an empty evening you fill. It is also why the price comparison only settles the question for groups at the two extremes.
Cost per person: where the lines cross
The party costs the same per head whether you come alone or with twenty friends: $99, about AED 365 at the dirham's peg to the dollar, for four hours with dinner and unlimited soft drinks. A private charter is priced per hour for the whole boat, so the cost per person falls every time you add a guest, until the boat is full and you have to step up a size. The table uses the cheapest boat in our fleet that seats the group, at the retail from-rate, once for a like-for-like 4 hours and once for the boat's minimum booking.
| Group | Yacht party, per person | Private, 4 hours, per person | Private, minimum hours, per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | $99 (about AED 365) | AED 800 (Sealine 31 ft, AED 1,600 for the boat) | AED 600 (3 h, AED 1,200) |
| 4 | $99 | AED 400 (Sealine) | AED 300 (3 h) |
| 6 | $99 | AED 267 (Sealine, full) | AED 200 (3 h) |
| 9 | $99 | AED 178 (Uno 35 ft, AED 1,600) | AED 133 (3 h, AED 1,200) |
| 10 | $99 | AED 160 (Tres 40 ft, AED 1,600) | AED 120 (3 h, AED 1,200) |
| 12 | $99 | AED 267 (Orion 48 ft, AED 3,200) | AED 133 (2 h, AED 1,600) |
| 17 | $99 | AED 235 (Daphne 53 ft, AED 4,000) | AED 118 (2 h, AED 2,000) |
| 25 | $99 | AED 184 (Pisces 62 ft, AED 4,600) | AED 92 (2 h, AED 2,300) |
| 30 | $99 | AED 153 (Aries 64 ft, AED 4,600) | AED 77 (2 h, AED 2,300) |
| 45 | $99 | AED 249 (X8 houseboat 90 ft, AED 11,200) | AED 187 (3 h, AED 8,400) |
| 60 | $99 | AED 187 (X8 houseboat, full) | AED 140 (3 h, AED 8,400) |
Retail from-rates for the whole boat with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included. Food is not included on the private side; the party price includes the BBQ. Superyachts (110-150 ft, 4-hour minimum) are left out because nobody books them to save money.
Three things stand out. First, a couple pays about twice as much per head to go private, and a group of three or four still pays more for the same four hours: for small numbers the party is the value option. Second, the crossover is five guests on the 31 ft boat, AED 320 each for four hours against $99, and only AED 240 each if three hours is enough. Third, the cheapest evenings per head of all are the 62-64 ft yachts filled to their 24-30 guests, from AED 77 a head for a two-hour cruise, which is why we steer larger birthdays that way.
Add food to the private side honestly. Dry food you bring costs what the supermarket charges; a live BBQ with a chef, Arabic and Lebanese platters, seafood or a cake are ordered in advance and quoted on WhatsApp with the boat. The full retail rate card is in the yacht rental prices guide. The lean on price: party for one to four people, private from five, and decisively private from ten.
Vibe: a floating nightclub or your own deck
The Dubai Marina yacht party is a floating nightclub rather than a boat trip. Boarding is at 8:30 PM at the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, the yacht leaves at 9 PM exactly, and for the next four hours a live DJ plays house, R&B and chart hits while the grill works through sliders, chicken, skewers, salads and desserts. There are no assigned seats: 25-45 guests move between the decks, and the backdrop rotates from Ain Dubai to the Palm to the Burj Al Arab lit up at night. Shoes come off on the boat, so bring socks; the dress code is smart casual and swimwear is not permitted.
A private charter has none of that unless you bring it. The crew, STCW-certified and English-speaking, from a fleet that has been on the water since 2006, works for your group alone. The deck is quiet enough for a conversation, the guest list is yours, and the evening can be a sunset with a bottle you brought, a swim stop off the Palm in the afternoon, or a birthday with a cake ordered in advance. It is not a party you join; it is a space you fill.
The lean: if the point is meeting people, dancing and not having to think, the party wins outright. If the point is your own people, the private deck wins, and the smaller the group, the more of the price is buying privacy rather than boat.
Control: route, timing and what you bring
The party runs one route at one time: 9 PM to about 1 AM, from the Marina past Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai, along JBR, through Dubai Harbour, around the Palm Jumeirah lagoon to the Burj Al Arab photo stop and back. It does not wait for latecomers and it does not stop for a swim. You bring nothing: outside food and drinks are not allowed, and the ticket already covers the BBQ, water, soft drinks and selected juices.
A private charter is built the other way round. You choose the slot (sunset is the most requested, so book it first) and the length: 2 hours covers the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai; 3 hours adds the Palm Jumeirah lagoon with a swim stop; 4 hours reaches Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea. The how many hours guide lays the routes out hour by hour. You bring your own drinks, including alcohol for guests of legal drinking age, and dry food such as pizza, sandwiches and snacks on disposable plates. BBQ meat cannot be brought aboard, but a live BBQ with a chef can be ordered in advance, and if the yacht is free after your slot the captain can extend on the day.
The lean: control belongs to the charter, completely. The only thing the party lets you decide is which deck to stand on, which, for a night out, is exactly the appeal.
The rules that decide it for some groups
For a few kinds of group the comparison is over before the price comes up. These are the rules from the two booking pages and the charter terms that do the deciding.
- Age. The party is strictly 21+ with an original ID or passport at boarding: no ID, no entry, no refund. A private charter takes every age. Children under 10 wear life jackets on deck and in the water, under-21s stay with an adult, and babies under 2 stay in the saloon or cabin with a parent. A mixed-age group has no choice to make.
- Documents. Party: an original passport or Emirates ID. Charter: a copy of each guest's passport or Emirates ID on a phone, plus a security pre-authorisation of AED 2,000-15,000 (it depends on the yacht) held on a card at check-in and released after the trip.
- Drinks. The party serves unlimited soft drinks, water and juices and allows nothing from outside. On a private yacht the drinks are your own, for guests 21+, under the same alcohol laws as the rest of the city: licensed boats only, and no public drunkenness.
- Dress. Smart casual or party wear on the party, no swimwear. On a daytime charter swimwear is the point; shoes come off on both.
- Weather. Both run subject to sea conditions and the Coast Guard, safety first. On a charter a weather warning means a new route, a new date or a full refund, free of charge; on the party, ask us on WhatsApp and we rebook you if the Coast Guard stops the sailing.
- Money. The party is paid in full in advance and cancels free up to 24 hours before departure. The charter is confirmed with the marina on WhatsApp before you pay anything; your own cancellation costs 50% up to 48 hours before and 100% inside the last 24 hours, and final guest numbers and catering are confirmed the evening before.
The lean: for anyone under 21, for families and for groups who want to swim, the private charter is not the more expensive option but the only one. For solo travellers and couples it is the reverse: the party is the only way onto the water at night that does not mean paying for a whole boat.
Who should book which
Put the price table and the rules together and most groups sort themselves in a sentence.
- Solo travellers and couples: the party. $99 each with the DJ and the BBQ included, and the nightlife guide has the rest of the evening around it.
- Three or four friends, all 21+: still the party on price for a full evening. A private Sealine at AED 1,200 for three hours only makes sense if you want daylight and a swim.
- Five to ten, any age: private on a 31-40 ft boat. The Tres seats 10 at AED 400 an hour, AED 120 a head for the 3-hour minimum.
- Twelve to thirty: a 48-64 ft yacht. The Orion for 12, Libra for 24 and Aries for 30 come to AED 77-133 a head for two hours.
- A birthday or a hen night that wants both: the party for the night itself and a private sunset cruise the day before or after. The private yacht rental guide covers what a charter includes.
- A group of 40-60: the X8 houseboat at AED 2,800 an hour for up to 60 guests, from AED 140 a head for three hours, keeps everyone on one deck. The party carries 25-45 guests in total, so a group that size cannot have it to itself.
How the two combine in one trip
They are not rivals for the same evening; most groups who do both put them on different days. A typical Marina-based week runs the 1-hour shared yacht tour at sunset on the first evening (from $32, all ages, hourly departures from the same pier), the party on a Friday or Saturday night, and a private afternoon charter with a swim stop later in the week once the group has settled on numbers. The full-day desert safari, 7 hours with hotel pickup, from $45 and no prepayment, goes on a day with nothing on the water, because it returns late in the evening.
Two timing notes. The party finishes around 1 AM, so do not book the sunrise balloon for the following morning; put the balloon after a private daytime charter instead. And sunset is the most requested private slot, so if the group wants golden hour we check that yacht with the marina first and hold it before the party tickets are bought. The party runs every night and is confirmed on full prepayment because its places sell out too, so buy those once the charter is held. Send guest numbers, the date and the occasion on WhatsApp and we confirm the boat and the total before any payment. If you are laying out the whole week, the SB AI planner puts these evenings on the map with the rest of the trip.
FAQ
Is a yacht party or a private yacht cheaper in Dubai?
Per person, the party is cheaper for groups of one to four: $99 each (about AED 365) for four hours with a live BBQ, unlimited soft drinks and a DJ. From five guests a private 31 ft boat at AED 400 per hour works out at AED 320 each for four hours, or AED 240 for the 3-hour minimum, without food. From ten guests a 40 ft boat is AED 120-160 a head, and a full 62-64 ft yacht comes down to AED 77-96 for two hours.
How much does a private yacht cost for 10 people in Dubai?
From AED 1,200 for the boat: the 40 ft Tres seats 10 at AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, so AED 120 per person with captain, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included. For more deck and a cabin, the 48 ft Orion for up to 12 is AED 800 per hour with a 2-hour minimum: AED 1,600 for the boat, AED 160 each with 10 aboard.
Can I join the Dubai Marina yacht party if I am under 21?
No. The party is strictly 21+ and an original ID or passport is checked at boarding; without it there is no entry and no refund. Under-21s see the same water on the 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32, which takes all ages, or on a private charter, where children under 10 wear life jackets and under-21s stay with an adult.
Can I bring my own alcohol on a yacht in Dubai?
On a private charter, yes: guests of legal drinking age (21+) can bring their own drinks, and water, ice and soft drinks are already on board. On the yacht party, no. Outside food and drinks are not allowed, and the ticket includes unlimited water, soft drinks and selected juices. Being drunk in public is an offence everywhere in Dubai, on the water included.
What time does the Dubai Marina yacht party start and finish?
Boarding is at 8:30 PM at the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower, Dubai Marina. The yacht leaves at 9:00 PM sharp and does not wait for latecomers, and it is back at the pier around 1:00 AM. The four hours take in Bluewaters and Ain Dubai, JBR, Dubai Harbour, the Palm Jumeirah lagoon and a photo stop at Burj Al Arab.
Can you swim from a private yacht in Dubai?
Yes, in daylight, at anchor, off the Palm or JBR, within three metres of the yacht and never while it is moving. The Coast Guard closes swimming around 7 PM in summer and 5 PM in winter, so a swim needs an afternoon or an early sunset slot. Children under 10 wear life jackets in the water. The night-time party has no swim stop and swimwear is not permitted.
Do I have to pay for a private yacht charter before it is confirmed?
No. You send guests, hours, date and occasion on WhatsApp, we check the yacht with the marina and confirm the time and the total, and only then is it paid. If you cancel, 50% is retained up to 48 hours before and 100% inside the last 24 hours; a Coast Guard weather warning gives a new route, a new date or a full refund. The party is the opposite: full prepayment, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
