The Lost Chambers is the Atlantis aquarium on the Palm: allow 1 to 2 hours for halls styled as sunken ruins, windows onto the huge Ambassador Lagoon and more than 65,000 marine animals. It is worth it if you are staying at Atlantis, already visiting Aquaventure, or want an air-conditioned break on a hot Palm day; it is a weaker reason to make the trip alone. This guide covers what you see, tickets, the Dubai Mall aquarium alternative and how to reach the Palm.

How long does The Lost Chambers take?

Allow about 1 to 2 hours. A brisk walk-through is closer to an hour; add time if you want to catch a feeding session, or if you have children who like to stay at the windows.

Five ways to build a Palm day around the aquarium

The other aquarium: Dubai Aquarium in The Dubai Mall #1
The Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai A Downtown day with the Burj Khalifa and the Fountain

The other aquarium: Dubai Aquarium in The Dubai Mall

The Dubai Mall aquarium is built around one huge acrylic viewing panel and a walk-through tunnel, and it sits next to the Burj Khalifa. If your hotel and plans are Downtown, it is the easier choice. If your day is on the Palm, The Lost Chambers is the one that fits.

Aquaventure Waterpark, next door #2
Atlantis, The Palm Teenagers and thrill-seekers who want slides first, fish second

Aquaventure Waterpark, next door

Aquaventure shares the Atlantis resort with the aquarium. A full day of slides can finish with an hour of fish in the air-conditioning, and hotel guests usually have both included. Other visitors should check whether a combined ticket is available for their date.

The Palm Monorail up the trunk #3
Gateway station to Atlantis, about 15 minutes Getting to Atlantis without a taxi

The Palm Monorail up the trunk

The monorail runs along the Palm's trunk from the Gateway station to Atlantis in about 15 minutes, with views of the island on the way. It connects to the Dubai Tram, so you can reach the Palm from the Marina on one Nol card.

The View at The Palm for the whole island #4
Palm Tower, Palm Jumeirah Seeing the fronds and Atlantis from above

The View at The Palm for the whole island

After the aquarium, an observation deck on the Palm shows the island's fronds, the crescent and Atlantis from above. It is a separate ticket and a separate visit, so treat it as an optional second stop rather than part of the aquarium trip.

Atlantis at golden hour #5
The Palm crescent, Atlantis resort Photos and a walk outside after the glass

Atlantis at golden hour

Late afternoon light turns the resort the colour of sand, with the Marina skyline across the water. If you finish the aquarium around then, walk outside for photos before the taxi queue. In summer, wait until the sun is low.

The Lost Chambers in one minute

The Lost Chambers is the aquarium inside the Atlantis hotel on the Palm Jumeirah, and a visit takes about 1 to 2 hours. The halls are styled as the sunken ruins of Atlantis, and the star is the Ambassador Lagoon, the large tank you look into through big windows. The aquarium is described as holding more than 65,000 marine animals, from sharks and rays to jellyfish and groupers, and there is a touch tank and live feeding in the lagoon.

Hotel guests at Atlantis usually have entry included, and other visitors buy a ticket. Prices vary by date, package and seller, so we do not quote one; the official Atlantis site is the place to check. The honest verdict: it is a good hour or two if you are already on the Palm, and a weak reason to cross the city alone. For the other main aquarium in Dubai, see the Dubai Aquarium guide.

What you actually see inside

The route winds through dimly lit halls and passages designed to look like an ancient city under the sea, with ruined walls and columns set among the fish. The fish swim through the ruins, so the setting is part of the show.

The Ambassador Lagoon is the centrepiece. Large windows look into the main tank, where rays, sharks and shoals of fish move past, and the surrounding halls hold smaller tanks of jellyfish and other reef species, plus a touch tank. Live feeding sessions in the lagoon run through the day, and the times are posted at the aquarium, so check the board when you arrive and plan around the next one.

A few things are sold separately or run on a schedule: animal encounters, behind-the-scenes tours and similar extras. These change, so rely on the Atlantis site rather than a reseller listing. A fine-dining restaurant in the hotel also looks into the same lagoon, but that is a separate booking and a separate budget, not part of the aquarium ticket.

Time, hours, tickets and practical details

The details below come from the aquarium's usual setup. Confirm hours and prices on your date, because they change.

What to know
WhereInside Atlantis, The Palm, on the crescent of Palm Jumeirah
Time to allowAbout 1 to 2 hours; longer if you time a feeding session
Opening hoursUsually from the morning into the evening with last entry before closing; times vary by day, so check
TicketPrice varies by date, package and seller, and is a fraction of an Aquaventure day pass (adults from about AED 350)
Hotel guestsAtlantis guests usually have entry included; confirm for your rate
Young childrenVery young children are usually free; check the age cut-off when you book
PhotographyDark halls and glass: no flash, lens close to the glass, dark clothes to cut reflections

Prices and hours change. Check the official Atlantis site before you go; resellers list different prices for the same ticket.

Is it worth it?

It depends on how your day looks, and on whether you have seen another aquarium.

  • Staying at Atlantis: yes. It is usually included, it is cool and dry, and it is a good rainy-day or midday-heat plan.
  • Visiting Aquaventure: yes, as a break. After the slides, an air-conditioned hour with fish beats another queue in the sun. Look at the Aquaventure guide for the waterpark side.
  • Children who love fish: yes. The Ambassador Lagoon windows and the feeding sessions are the draw.
  • One short Dubai trip, Downtown base: probably not. The Dubai Mall aquarium is closer to the Burj Khalifa and the Fountain, and you save the trip to the Palm for something that only the Palm offers.
  • Teenagers and adults without children: only if fish are the point. Most of the thrill on the Palm is in the waterpark, the sea and the view.

When to go and how to enjoy it

The aquarium is indoors, dim and cool, which makes it a good plan for the middle of a summer day and for the odd cloudy winter one. From May to September it is one of the few things on the Palm that works at 2 PM. In the cooler months it fits better after the beach or the waterpark, when children are tired of walking in the sun. Our guide to Dubai in summer lists the other indoor options.

Weekday mornings are the quietest, and Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays are the busiest, when the windows onto the Ambassador Lagoon fill with parents holding phones above the crowd. If you go at a busy time, start at the far end of the route and work back, because most groups stop at the first big window.

Wear something light, because the air-conditioning is cool, and flat shoes, because the route is long and the floors can be damp near the touch tank. Bring a phone with a clean lens and keep the flash off, which most aquariums ask visitors to do; the animals are lit well enough for a good photo through the glass, and dark clothes cut your own reflection.

The Lost Chambers vs Dubai Aquarium in The Dubai Mall

Dubai has two aquariums that most visitors compare. They suit different days, so choose by where you will already be.

Check each venue's current tickets and what they include before you choose.

The Palm and Downtown are 30 to 45 minutes apart, so the better question is not which aquarium is bigger but which half of the city your day belongs to. The Downtown Dubai guide shows what sits around the other one.

Getting to Atlantis

From the Marina, the Red Line to DMCC or Sobha Realty, the Dubai Tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop and the monorail to Atlantis takes about 15 minutes for the last leg, and the monorail costs roughly AED 20 to 30 return. With small children, a taxi from the Marina (about AED 35 to 50, 20 to 30 minutes) is simpler. The monorail and tram guide has the steps, and Dubai Marina to the Palm compares the options.

From Downtown, a taxi is the practical option. The Downtown to the Palm guide covers taxi, Metro and monorail. For the island itself, the Palm Jumeirah area guide is the overview.

See the Palm from the sea afterwards

The Palm looks different from the water, and our boats show it. For a short, easy view of the skyline, the 1-hour shared yacht tour is from $32 per person, with views of Dubai Marina, JBR and Bluewaters and a photo stop at Ain Dubai, the observation wheel, which you see as a landmark. It stays in the Marina area and does not go round the Palm. Children are welcome under adult supervision, and you check in at the marina pier 20 minutes before departure.

For Atlantis from the sea, the 90-minute speedboat tour from $45 rounds the Palm to Atlantis The Palm and Atlantis The Royal, with live commentary. Note that it is not for children under 5 or pregnant women. The jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab has a 60-minute option that continues to Atlantis on the Palm for $140 per jet ski. The Marina yacht route guide explains what you pass, and the best things to do with kids puts the aquarium in a wider family plan.

FAQ

How long does The Lost Chambers take?

Allow about 1 to 2 hours. A brisk walk-through is closer to an hour; add time if you want to catch a feeding session, or if you have children who like to stay at the windows.

How much is a ticket to The Lost Chambers?

Prices vary by date, package and seller, so check the official Atlantis site. As a rule it costs a fraction of an Aquaventure day pass, which starts from about AED 350 for adults. Resellers list different prices for the same entry, so compare before you pay.

Is The Lost Chambers free for Atlantis hotel guests?

Usually, yes: hotel guests at Atlantis normally have entry included. The exact access depends on your room rate, so confirm it with the hotel before you buy a ticket.

Is The Lost Chambers the same as Dubai Aquarium?

No. Dubai Aquarium is inside The Dubai Mall in Downtown, with a huge viewing panel and a tunnel. The Lost Chambers is at Atlantis on the Palm, with ruins-themed halls and windows into the Ambassador Lagoon. They are 30 to 45 minutes apart.

Can I visit without staying at Atlantis?

Yes, tickets are sold to non-guests. Check the official site for your date, because ticket packages and access rules change.

Is it suitable for toddlers?

Usually, yes. Very young children are often free, the halls are cool and dim, and the lagoon windows hold their attention for a while. Hold hands in the dark corridors and expect a short visit, because small children rarely stay for the full 1 to 2 hours.

How do I get from Dubai Marina to Atlantis?

Take the Red Line to DMCC or Sobha Realty, the tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop and the monorail to Atlantis, which takes about 15 minutes on the last leg. A taxi from the Marina is about AED 35 to 50 and 20 to 30 minutes, which is easier with children.
