Dubai Marina to Palm Jumeirah: Tram and Monorail, Taxi, or by Yacht

Dubai Marina to Palm Jumeirah (Atlantis) is 12-15 km: 20-30 minutes and AED 35-50 by taxi, tram plus monorail on a budget, or the Palm from the water on a 3-hour charter.

Dubai Marina Shared Yacht Tour — From $32 per person

The Palm sits just up the coast from the Marina: about 12-15 km by road to Atlantis, 20-30 minutes and around AED 35-50 by taxi. On public transport it is the Dubai Tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop and the Palm Monorail up the trunk, about 15 minutes for roughly AED 20-30 return. And there is the third way, the one the Marina is built for: seeing the Palm from the sea on a private charter or circling its lagoon at night on the yacht party. Here is when each makes sense.

How far is Palm Jumeirah from Dubai Marina?

About 12-15 km by road to Atlantis at the top of the island, 20-30 minutes and around AED 35-50 by taxi with clear roads. The trunk hotels, Nakheel Mall and Palm West Beach are closer. By tram and Palm Monorail budget about an hour with the changes; by yacht, the Palm lagoon is the second hour of a 3-hour charter from the Marina pier.

Marina to the Palm: the ways, ranked

Taxi or Careem #1
Marina to Atlantis over the Palm trunk Most trips: fastest, cheap for two or more, door to door

Taxi or Careem

About 20-30 minutes and around AED 35-50 on the meter to Atlantis, less to the trunk hotels and Palm West Beach. With flag fall about AED 5 and about AED 2 per km it is roughly the same money per head as the monorail for two people, with no changes. Careem and Uber are similar; check the app.

Tram, then the Palm Monorail #2
Any tram stop to Palm Jumeirah, then Gateway to Atlantis Aquaventure A budget, the view down the trunk, no taxi queue

Tram, then the Palm Monorail

The Dubai Tram runs 11 stops along the Marina, JBR and Al Sufouh Road; the Palm Jumeirah stop links to the Palm Monorail, which takes about 15 minutes from Gateway station at the base of the trunk to Atlantis Aquaventure for roughly AED 20-30 return. Slower than a taxi, but the ride itself is a sight.

A private yacht, 3-4 hours #3
From the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower Seeing the Palm as it was designed to be seen: from the water

A private yacht, 3-4 hours

A 3-hour private charter adds the Palm Jumeirah lagoon with a swim stop to the Marina loop; 4 hours reach Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the open sea. From AED 400 per hour for a 31 ft boat with captain, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included, and the sunset slot goes first.

The yacht party around the Palm at night #4
9:00 PM to 1:00 AM, 21+ The Palm lit up, with a DJ and a BBQ

The yacht party around the Palm at night

The Dubai Marina Yacht Party sails around the crescent of the Palm on its way to the Burj Al Arab photo stop, $99 per person with a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks. You never set foot on the island, which is the point: the lights are better from the water.

When you land: The View at The Palm #5
52nd floor, on the Palm trunk The photo of the whole palm shape

When you land: The View at The Palm

The View at The Palm is the observation deck for the fronds-and-crescent picture, tickets about AED 70-100; Aquaventure, The Lost Chambers, Palm West Beach and the free Palm Fountain at The Pointe fill the rest of a half day. Our Palm Jumeirah area guide ranks them all.

The short answer: taxi for the day, tram and monorail on a budget, yacht for the view

Take a taxi for most trips: 20-30 minutes and around AED 35-50 on the meter from the Marina to Atlantis, door to door, and less to the trunk hotels, Nakheel Mall or Palm West Beach. Two people in a taxi pay about what two monorail returns cost, with no changes and no walking in the heat.

Take the tram and the Palm Monorail if you are counting dirhams, want the view down the trunk from the elevated track, or are already on the tram line in JBR. It is slower and involves two changes, but the monorail ride is about 15 minutes of scenery.

Book a yacht if the Palm is the reason for the trip rather than a destination. The island was built to be looked at from the sea and the air; from the water, on a 3-4 hour charter or the night yacht party, it finally looks like the pictures. The 1-hour shared tour stays in the Marina and along JBR and does not reach the Palm, so pick the right boat.

The options compared

The Palm is the next thing up the coast from the Marina: Dubai Harbour and Bluewaters sit between them, and the road goes up the trunk. These are the numbers we plan with.

Taxi fares, monorail prices and timetables change; treat them as budgets and check the RTA app or the monorail site before you go.

Two things the table hides. Friday and Saturday evenings are the busy hours on the Marina roads, so allow more for a taxi then. And Gateway station is at the base of the trunk by the tram stop: the monorail runs up the trunk to Atlantis Aquaventure, so a hotel elsewhere on the crescent still needs a taxi at the end.

Step by step: tram and Palm Monorail

This is the public transport route. It is a pleasant ride rather than a fast one; do it once on the way there and take a taxi back.

  • 1. Nol card. The tram uses the same Nol card as the metro: a Silver card is about AED 25 with AED 19 of credit, sold at metro stations. Tap in and out at the tram stop.
  • 2. Board the Dubai Tram at any of its 11 stops along the Marina, JBR and Al Sufouh Road; from the metro, the tram connects at DMCC and Sobha Realty. Ride in the Al Sufouh direction and get off at the Palm Jumeirah stop.
  • 3. Walk to Gateway station, the monorail terminus at the base of the trunk beside the tram stop, and buy a ticket: roughly AED 20-30 return, and check the current fare and hours on the day.
  • 4. Ride up the trunk to Atlantis Aquaventure, about 15 minutes on the elevated track with the fronds and the sea on both sides. The View at The Palm and Nakheel Mall are on the trunk on the way up; Aquaventure, The Lost Chambers and the Atlantis hotels are at the top.
  • 5. Come back down the same way, or take a taxi from Atlantis, which is quicker in the evening when you are tired and salty from the waterpark.

Budget about an hour door to door from a Marina hotel with the two changes. If your hotel is on JBR, the tram stops put you on the line already. The rest of the city's public transport is in our taxi and Careem guide and the reverse direction from the city side is in Downtown to Palm Jumeirah.

When the taxi is simply right

For almost every Palm trip with a purpose, an Aquaventure day with bags, a dinner booking, a family with a pushchair, a hotel on the crescent, the taxi is right. The meter from the Marina reads around AED 35-50 to Atlantis with clear roads (flag fall about AED 5, about AED 2 per km, minimum about AED 12), which for two people is roughly the price of two monorail returns, and it goes to the door.

Rush hours are 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM on Sheikh Zayed Road, and the Marina's own crunch is Friday and Saturday evenings. Leave 15 minutes earlier at those times, or book a Careem with a pinned pickup so you are not hunting for a cab on Marina Walk.

Coming back late from The Pointe or a Palm West Beach dinner, the apps are reliable and taxis take cards. Round up the fare as a tip; nothing more is expected.

The third way: the Palm from the water

The Marina's yacht pier is the closest departure point to the Palm, which is why the Palm lagoon is the standard second hour of every charter route from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower. A 2-hour slot stays in the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai; 3 hours add the Palm Jumeirah lagoon with a swim stop in daylight; 4 hours continue to Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the open sea.

Rates are per hour for the whole boat with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included. The 31 ft Sealine takes 6 guests from AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, so a Palm afternoon for a couple or a family is from AED 1,200 for the boat; the 48 ft Orion takes 12 from AED 800 per hour; the 62 ft Libra takes 24 from AED 1,150 per hour. Bring your own drinks and dry snacks; catering with a chef is added in advance.

The per-head maths is what surprises people. Six friends on the Sealine for the 3-hour Palm route pay AED 1,200 for the boat, AED 200 each; twelve on the Orion pay AED 2,400, about AED 200 each, for a private yacht with a swim stop off the Palm. Every guest needs a passport or Emirates ID copy on their phone, a security pre-authorisation of AED 2,000-15,000 depending on the yacht is held on a card at check-in and released after the trip, and boarding is at the marina lounge on the marina level of Al Majara Tower 20-30 minutes before the slot.

Swimming is at anchor in daylight, within three metres of the yacht, and the Coast Guard closes it around 7 PM in summer and 5 PM in winter, so a swim stop belongs to an afternoon slot and the sunset slot is for the light. Sunset is the most requested time; we confirm the yacht with the marina and the total on WhatsApp before any payment. The route stage by stage is in what you see on the Marina yacht route, and how many hours to book settles the 2, 3 or 4 question.

If you are not a group, the yacht party circles the Palm crescent at night for $99 a head, boarding 8:30 PM at the pier, 21+ with an original ID. And the honest note: our 1-hour shared yacht tour, from $32, covers the Marina, JBR, Bluewaters and the Ain Dubai photo stop; it does not go as far as the Palm, and we would rather you knew that before you booked it for the view.

What to do once you are on the Palm

Atlantis The Palm is the reason most people cross the trunk: Aquaventure waterpark, The Lost Chambers aquarium and the hotel itself, with Atlantis The Royal beside it on the crescent. On the trunk, The View at The Palm on the 52nd floor gives the only ground-based photo of the whole palm shape, tickets about AED 70-100, and Nakheel Mall is the place to cool down. Palm West Beach is the sunset strip, and The Pointe, at the top of the trunk facing Atlantis, has the free Palm Fountain shows in the evening.

A half day that works from the Marina: taxi over at 2 PM, Aquaventure or The Lost Chambers through the afternoon, The View for the sunset light, then The Pointe for the fountain and dinner, and a taxi back in 20-30 minutes. The full list, with where to stay on the island, is in our Palm Jumeirah area guide; if you are choosing between the two as a base, read Marina vs Palm Jumeirah.

None of this applies to the tours with pickup. The full-day desert safari collects you at a Marina or Palm hotel in a 4x4 for the 45-60 minute drive to the Lahbab dunes, from $45 with no prepayment, and the Abu Dhabi day and the sunrise balloon do the same. Only the yachts ask you to come to the pier, and the pier is a short taxi from either side.

FAQ

How far is Palm Jumeirah from Dubai Marina?

About 12-15 km by road to Atlantis at the top of the island, 20-30 minutes and around AED 35-50 by taxi with clear roads. The trunk hotels, Nakheel Mall and Palm West Beach are closer. By tram and Palm Monorail budget about an hour with the changes; by yacht, the Palm lagoon is the second hour of a 3-hour charter from the Marina pier.

How do I get from Dubai Marina to Atlantis by public transport?

Dubai Tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop, then the Palm Monorail from Gateway station at the base of the trunk to Atlantis Aquaventure: about 15 minutes for roughly AED 20-30 return. The tram runs on your Nol card and meets the metro at DMCC and Sobha Realty; check the monorail fare and hours on the day.

How much is a taxi from Dubai Marina to Atlantis?

Budget about AED 35-50 on the meter without traffic: flag fall about AED 5, about AED 2 per km, minimum fare about AED 12. Careem and Uber are similar or slightly higher and fix the price in the app. Allow more on Friday and Saturday evenings and in the 5-8 PM rush; taxis take cards.

Can I see Palm Jumeirah from a yacht from Dubai Marina?

Yes, and it is the best view of it. A 3-hour private charter from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower adds the Palm lagoon with a swim stop to the Marina loop, and 4 hours reach Atlantis and Burj Al Arab from the sea; boats start from AED 400 per hour. The yacht party circles the Palm at night for $99 per person. The 1-hour shared tour stays in the Marina and does not reach the Palm.

Does the Palm Monorail go to Atlantis?

Yes: the line runs up the Palm trunk from Gateway station, next to the Palm Jumeirah tram stop, to Atlantis Aquaventure at the top, about 15 minutes each way. It is an elevated ride with the fronds and the sea on both sides, and a return ticket is roughly AED 20-30; check the current fare at the station.

Is it better to stay in Dubai Marina or on Palm Jumeirah?

The Marina for walking, restaurants, the tram and the yacht pier on your doorstep; the Palm for a resort with its own beach and pool, with a taxi or the monorail for everything else. On a short trip many couples do both: Marina evenings and a Palm afternoon, 20-30 minutes apart by taxi. Our Marina vs Palm Jumeirah comparison goes deeper.

Can I swim off the yacht at the Palm?

Yes, on a private charter in daylight: at anchor off the Palm or JBR, within three metres of the yacht, no jumping while the boat is moving, children under ten in life jackets. The Coast Guard closes swimming around 7 PM in summer and 5 PM in winter, so book an afternoon slot for the swim and keep sunset for the photos.
