Palm West Beach is a 1.6 km promenade and beach on the west side of the Palm Jumeirah trunk, free to walk, with beach clubs, restaurants and the Dubai Marina skyline across the water at sunset. Most of the sand and sunbeds belong to paying clubs, so plan on a drink or a meal rather than a free swim. The simplest way there is a taxi; by monorail, get off at Al Ittihad Park and walk about two minutes. This guide covers the clubs, costs, sunset times, access and what to pair it with.

Is Palm West Beach free?
The promenade is free to walk: Gulf News gives it 1.6 km of promenade and beachfront. The sand and sunbeds mostly belong to beach clubs, and each club sets its own entry rule and minimum spend, so a swim or a daybed is paid. Restaurants and bars along the promenade charge ordinary menu prices, and no source we checked gives a standard club price.

Six ways to use a visit to Palm West Beach
#1
A beach club afternoon
Gulf News describes luxury daybeds, private infinity pools on the sand and electric hydrofoil surfing along the promenade. Each club sets its own entry rule, minimum spend and dress code, and at least one is for guests aged 21 and over, so ask before you go and book at weekends.
#2
A sunset table on the promenade
Visit Dubai promotes the beach for its sunset scenes, dining and nightlife. Time Out Dubai names several bars and restaurants where you can sit for the sunset, from a casual sand-floor bar to a Mediterranean restaurant. Sunset is about 5:30 PM from November to December, so book a table for about 4:30 PM.
#3
Above the beach: AURA Skypool and The View
The towers on the trunk have decks that look straight down at Palm West Beach, the monorail line and the Marina skyline. The View at The Palm is an observation deck, about AED 70-100, and AURA Skypool is a pool pass. Our guides cover tickets, rules and whether each is worth the money.
#4
Arriving by the Palm Monorail
Khaleej Times reported in July that the monorail resumed after a six-month closure for station maintenance. It has four stations over 5.5 km, with one-way tickets from AED 5 and round trips from AED 10. Get off at Al Ittihad Park, the second station, and walk about two minutes.
#5
The skyline from the water
From Palm West Beach you look across the water at the Marina, JBR and Ain Dubai. Our 1-hour shared yacht tour sails through that skyline, from $32 per person with hourly departures, and does not reach the Palm itself. Our night yacht party passes the Palm lagoon on its way to the Burj Al Arab.
#6
A jet ski along the Palm coast
The 60-minute ride of our guided jet ski tour starts at Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour, stops at the Burj Al Arab and continues along the coast to Atlantis on the Palm. It costs from $140 per jet ski, with two people sharing at no extra cost. The harbour is on the Jumeirah coast, not on the Palm.
Palm West Beach in short
Palm West Beach is a promenade and beach along the west side of the Palm Jumeirah trunk, with the Dubai Marina skyline facing it across the water. Gulf News gives it 1.6 km of promenade and beachfront, with beachfront restaurants and a walking and running trail. Walking the promenade costs nothing. The sand and sunbeds mostly belong to beach clubs, so a swim and a lounger usually come with a minimum spend or a day pass. It is a beach for a long lunch, a sunset and a stroll, not for a cheap swim.
If you are looking for a Palm boardwalk, note that the sources we checked, Gulf News and Time Out Dubai, call this stretch a promenade and a walking and running trail rather than a boardwalk. It is the walk to head for if you want a long waterfront stroll on the Palm. Atlantis, The Pointe and the crescent hotels are further up the island; see our Palm Jumeirah area guide for them, and best beaches in Dubai to compare Palm West Beach with JBR and Kite Beach.
The beach clubs, restaurants and bars
Gulf News describes the promenade as lined with upscale beach clubs, waterfront restaurants and bars, with sunset sessions and ambient DJ sets in the evening. Time Out Dubai lists The Club at West Beach as a group of seven beach clubs and a restaurant. The table gives a sample of what Time Out Dubai names, so you can see the range. Venues open, close and change, so check the current list and the hours before you go.
Alcohol is served in the licensed venues only, not on public sand; our beach clubs guide explains day passes and minimum spends, and our dress code guide covers what to wear on the way in and out.
| Venue | Type | What Time Out Dubai says |
|---|---|---|
| Eva | Beach club | A Tulum-style club |
| Kyma | Beach club | Greek-inspired, for guests aged 21 and over only |
| The 305 | Beach club | Miami-inspired, a place to stay on for the sunset |
| Surf Club | Bar and club | Views across to Dubai Marina and Dubai Harbour, with DJs at night |
| February 30 | Bar | A large circular bar for watching the sunset |
| Koko Bay | Bar | Casual sunset drinks on the sand |
| Lucky Fish | Restaurant | Mediterranean-style food with the Marina skyline in view |
| Ristorante Loren | Restaurant | Known for its pizza |
Listings were published within the last year or two. Opening hours, prices and even operators change, so confirm each venue before you plan around it.
What it costs: free to walk, paid to lounge
No source we checked gives a standard price for a daybed or a day pass, because every club sets its own and the price changes by day. Do not rely on a number you read online: ask the club for the entry rule and the minimum spend, and for what that spend includes, before you book. The rest is easier to price.
| Item | Cost | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Walking the promenade | Free | 1.6 km along the trunk, with a walking and running trail |
| Beach club daybed or day pass | Set by each club | Ask about the minimum spend and what it covers |
| Palm Monorail | One-way from AED 5, round trip from AED 10 | Reported by Khaleej Times; check the operator's current fares |
| Dubai Tram | About AED 3 a trip | Tap in with a Nol card; see the tram and monorail guide |
| Taxi from Dubai Marina to Atlantis | About AED 35-50 | Palm West Beach is closer than Atlantis, so expect a little less |
| The View at The Palm | About AED 70-100 | An observation deck on the 52nd floor; prices are third-party |
Sunset: when to arrive and where to sit
The beach faces the Marina side of the Palm, and the sun goes down over the water in front of the skyline. Visit Dubai promotes it for exactly that: stunning sunset scenes. Sunset is about 5:30 PM from November to December, about 5:45 PM in January and about 6:25 PM by mid-March, so in the cooler months arrive by 4:45 PM to walk the promenade in daylight and sit down before the sun reaches the horizon.
Time Out Dubai points to Surf Club, February 30 and Koko Bay for sunset seats, and Lucky Fish for a meal with the skyline in view. At weekends, book ahead. After sunset the Marina towers switch on across the water, and the promenade fills with the evening crowd and the DJ sets Gulf News mentions. Our best sunset spots in Dubai ranks the beach against the water and the decks.
The promenade walk, dogs and quiet hours
The walk itself is the free part, and the quiet time is the morning. Gulf News says the promenade is popular with Palm residents on weekend mornings and that it is dog-friendly, with some restaurants pet-friendly. That differs from Dubai's public beaches, where pets are not allowed, so the welcome applies to the promenade and the venues, not to a public beach.
Swimming is different from walking. The sand is mostly run by the clubs, and each sets its own rules and hours. Gulf News's list of Dubai's night-swimming beaches names Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1, and does not include Palm West Beach, so do not swim here after dark. If you want free public sand with lifeguards, JBR Beach and Kite Beach are the easier choice; read the flags and the signs wherever you swim.
How to get to Palm West Beach
Gulf News gives the public-transport route: take the Palm Monorail from Palm Gateway, get off at Al Ittihad Park and walk about two minutes. Khaleej Times reported on 9 July that the monorail resumed after six months of maintenance. It has four stations, Palm Gateway, Al Ittihad Park, Nakheel Mall and Atlantis Aquaventure, over a route of 5.5 km. Check the operator's timetable before a late evening: our monorail guide gives the last train from Palm Gateway as about 9:45 PM.
| From | How | Time and cost (about) |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Marina or JBR | Tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop, then about 10 minutes on foot to Palm Gateway, then the monorail one stop to Al Ittihad Park | Tram about AED 3, monorail from AED 5; a taxi is 20-30 minutes and about AED 35-50 to Atlantis |
| Downtown or Burj Khalifa | Taxi | 25-35 minutes, about AED 50-70 to the Palm |
| Anywhere on the Red Line | Metro to DMCC or Sobha Realty, then the tram and the monorail | Slow; most visitors take a taxi from the Marina side |
| Any time, or late at night | Taxi or RTA Hala taxi | Khaleej Times says RTA recommended Hala taxis on the Palm while the monorail was closed |
Taxi times and prices come from our taxi and Palm guides and vary with traffic. The tram and monorail guide has stations and Nol details.
The tram and monorail guide and the guide to getting from the Marina to the Palm explain the steps. Keep the taxi as the plan for the return, because the monorail's evening timetable and the heat or rain can change it.
Pair it with a view, then with the water
The towers on the trunk are the natural second stop: The View at The Palm shows the whole island from above, and a late-afternoon slot puts you on the promenade for sunset. From Palm West Beach you are looking at the Marina, so the best second half of the evening is on the water there. Our 1-hour shared yacht tour is from $32 per person, with hourly departures from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower. Check in 20 minutes before departure with an original passport or Emirates ID, and pay in advance because the sunset hour sells out.
The Palm itself is not on the shared hour's route. If you want to sail past it, the 21+ Marina yacht party runs from 9 PM to 1 AM for $99 per person and passes the Palm lagoon on its way to the Burj Al Arab, with a live DJ and a live BBQ.
FAQ
Is Palm West Beach free?
The promenade is free to walk: Gulf News gives it 1.6 km of promenade and beachfront. The sand and sunbeds mostly belong to beach clubs, and each club sets its own entry rule and minimum spend, so a swim or a daybed is paid. Restaurants and bars along the promenade charge ordinary menu prices, and no source we checked gives a standard club price.
How do I get to Palm West Beach by monorail?
Take the Palm Monorail from Palm Gateway and get off at Al Ittihad Park, the second of four stations, then walk about two minutes, according to Gulf News. Khaleej Times reports one-way tickets from AED 5 and round trips from AED 10. From Dubai Marina, take the tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop and walk about 10 minutes to Palm Gateway.
Is there a boardwalk on Palm Jumeirah?
The sources we checked describe a promenade and a walking and running trail along Palm West Beach, 1.6 km long on the trunk, rather than a boardwalk by that name. It is the stretch to walk for a waterfront stroll with the Marina skyline across the water. Bring water in the warm months, and go in the morning or around sunset.
What time is sunset at Palm West Beach?
About 5:30 PM from November to December, about 5:45 PM in January and about 6:25 PM by mid-March; in June and July it is about 7:10 PM. The beach faces the Marina across the water, so arrive 45 minutes early to find a seat. Book a table ahead at weekends.
Can you swim at Palm West Beach?
Mostly from the beach clubs' sand, which set their own rules and hours. Gulf News's list of Dubai's night-swimming beaches does not include Palm West Beach, so do not swim after dark. JBR Beach and Kite Beach are free public beaches; check the flags and signs at any beach before you enter the water.
Are dogs allowed at Palm West Beach?
Gulf News calls the promenade dog-friendly and says some beachfront restaurants are pet-friendly. Dubai's public beaches do not allow pets, so keep to the promenade and the venues that welcome them, and ask the restaurant before you sit down with a dog.
Does your yacht tour go to the Palm?
The 1-hour shared yacht tour, from $32 per person, sails the Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai, and does not reach the Palm. The 21+ yacht party, $99 per person from 9 PM to 1 AM, passes the Palm lagoon on its way to the Burj Al Arab. Both leave from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower.
