Dubai in September is still summer: 38-42°C by day, 28-30°C at night and a sea around 33°C, easing only towards the end of the month. What changes is the price and the calendar. Hotel rates stay low, the summer crowds have thinned and the outdoor season restarts in October. Spend the heat indoors, take the evening on the water with a shared Marina yacht hour from $32, and save Global Village and Miracle Garden for next month.

Six ways to use a September trip
#1
The Marina sunset hour
From $32 per person for one hour past the Marina, JBR and Bluewaters, with a photo stop at Ain Dubai and chilled bottled water. Sunset is between about 6:40 and 6:05 PM in September, so an evening departure sails into dusk. Check in 20 minutes early with a passport or Emirates ID, and prepay in full.
#2
Sunrise balloon, if the weather allows
The regular season restarts around September or October, depending on the weather, so we ask you to send your dates before you plan around it. The flight is $275 per person, 4-5 hours door to door, with a 30% deposit; a flight cancelled for weather gets a full refund or a new date.
#3
Evening desert safari
From $45 per person for 7 hours, with an air-conditioned 4x4, air-conditioned tents, a BBQ buffet, unlimited drinks and the fire show, Tanoura and belly dance. There is no prepayment. September evenings are still warm, so the camp is the comfortable part; for long cool hours on the dunes, October is better.
#4
Abu Dhabi by tour, or by train
The 9-hour tour from $45 starts with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque at 8:00 AM pickup and ends back at your hotel. A train between Dubai and Abu Dhabi has run since 30 September 2026, from AED 39 online, but its stations are not in the city centres, so you still need taxis at each end.
#5
A water park at opening
The parks stay open through September. Go at opening and leave by early afternoon, when the sun is strongest. Prices, hours and height rules change by season, so check the official sites before you book.
#6
Waiting for October: Global Village
Global Village is closed in September. This season it opened on 14 October (Khaleej Times), with tickets at AED 25 on weekdays and AED 30 at weekends. If your dates are flexible, October brings the evening outdoor events back, and the weather is closer to 30-38°C than to September's 38-42°C.
Dubai in September: the short answer
Dubai in September is still hot, but it is the month the city turns the corner. Days are 38-42°C, nights 28-30°C, the sea is around 33°C and humidity stays high. Sunrise is at about 5:50-6:05 AM and sunset moves from about 6:40 PM to 6:05 PM, so the evenings are noticeably shorter than in July. Rain is almost unknown. The last week of the month brings the first evenings that feel lighter, but it is not winter weather.
The reason to come is value. Hotel rates stay low, queues are short and the indoor city and the evening tours run as in August. The reason to wait is the calendar: Miracle Garden, Dubai Safari Park and Global Village all reopen in October. If you cannot move your dates, treat September as a late-summer trip and plan around the clock, as in August. If you can, see Dubai in October.
September week by week
The month is not uniform. The first week is August with a slightly shorter evening, and the last week is the first one that feels like a change.
| Part of the month | Days | Evenings | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| First week | 40-42°C and humid | Sunset about 6:40 PM; nights near 30°C | The summer festival has ended; the malls are quieter |
| Weeks two and three | 39-41°C | Sunset about 6:30-6:15 PM | Hotels stay cheap; evenings on the water are the best hours |
| Last week | 38-40°C | Sunset about 6:05-6:10 PM; nights a little lighter | First hints of relief; outdoor events start in October |
Typical bands, not forecasts. Sunset times are approximate.
Use the same day shape as in the summer: outside before 9 AM and after sunset, inside from 11 AM to 5 PM.
Deals: why September is a good month to book
September is the last month of the low season. Hotel rates are still well below winter, flights are cheaper than in the peak months, and with school terms under way the family demand that fills July and August eases. Resorts often add breakfast, kids-stay-free or late checkout.
A few habits make the saving real. Compare the total, including the per-night tourism dirham fee. Book free cancellation if you can, because rates tend to start climbing as October approaches. Ask whether the pool is chilled and shaded. And remember that the saving is on the room: tours cost the same all year. How much a Dubai trip costs shows where the money goes.
What is open in September, and what waits for October
The outdoor attractions open on their own dates, and this season's dates show the pattern. They change every year, so check the official sites.
| Place | In September | Season start |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Miracle Garden | Closed | Opened 8 October this season (Gulf News, Khaleej Times) |
| Dubai Safari Park | Closed for the summer | Reopened 12 October this season (Khaleej Times, Gulf News) |
| Global Village | Closed | Opened 14 October this season (Khaleej Times) |
| Malls, Ski Dubai, aquariums, water parks | Open | All year |
| Burj Khalifa decks, the Dubai Fountain | Open | All year; the Fountain plays every 30 minutes from about 6 PM |
| Sunrise balloon | Weather-dependent; ask us | The regular season restarts around September or October |
| Museum of the Future | Temporarily closed | Reopening was reported for early 2027, with no confirmed date |
Seasonal places announce their dates each year. Check the official sites before you go.

The Marina sunset hour in September
The shared Marina yacht hour is the best September evening for the money. It is from $32 per person for one hour on a premium yacht with spacious decks, chilled bottled water, a red carpet at the pier and a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai. Departures are hourly, and with sunset between about 6:40 and 6:05 PM you can choose a departure that ends in dusk with the Marina lit up.
Meet at Level P of Al Majara Tower, check in 20 minutes before departure and take your shoes off to board. The yacht leaves strictly on time and late arrivals are not refunded. Everyone needs an original passport or Emirates ID. Full prepayment secures the seat, and there are no hotel transfers. The sunset cruise guide has the times by month. For a long night, the yacht party is $99, 21+, 9 PM to 1 AM.
Balloon, safari and Abu Dhabi: the tours that bridge the seasons
The sunrise balloon is the question mark. Its regular season restarts around September or October, depending on the weather, so send us your dates and we will say what is realistic. It is $275 per person, a 40-70 minute flight with a Bedouin-style breakfast, and a 30% deposit confirms it. See the sunrise balloon and the balloon season guide.
The full-day desert safari is from $45, with an air-conditioned 4x4 and camp tents, and no prepayment. Evenings are still warm in September, so the camp is the comfortable part. The full-day desert safari page has the programme; for long cool hours on the dunes, October to March is better.
Abu Dhabi is a day trip by either the tour or the train. The Abu Dhabi City Tour is from $45, leaves at 8:00 AM from your hotel and covers the mosque, the BAPS Mandir and Heritage Village. Etihad Rail has run between Dubai and Abu Dhabi since 30 September 2026: about an hour according to Gulf News, with Comfort Class from AED 39 booked online. The stations (Al Yalayis in Jumeirah Golf Estates, and Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi) are not central, so you still need a taxi at each end. See Etihad Rail.
How to plan a September trip
September is for people who value the price and can live by the clock. Keep these rules:
- Be outside before 9 AM and after sunset, and inside from 11 AM to 5 PM.
- Drink before you are thirsty, wear light cotton or linen, and carry a hat, sunglasses and high-SPF sunscreen.
- Take the Metro or a taxi for any journey over ten minutes; the Metro stations and trains are air-conditioned.
- Cover shoulders and knees for malls and mosques.
- Book the limited things first: the balloon (a 30% deposit), the yacht seat and the Burj Khalifa slot (both prepaid in full).
If a few weeks of flexibility are possible, October gives lighter evenings and the winter attractions reopening, though hotel rates start to climb, as in Dubai in October. For a plan day by day, the free SB AI planner lays out your days on the map.
