Palm Jumeirah is the one big hotel district in Dubai with no metro station, and that decides the answer. From Dubai International, take a taxi: about 35 km, 30-45 minutes and about AED 90-120 to Atlantis or any hotel on the island. The public route, Metro Red Line to the Marina, the tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop and the Palm Monorail up the trunk, costs about AED 30-40 but takes about 1.5 hours and only reaches the trunk and Atlantis, not the crescent hotels. Below: every option compared, the monorail route step by step, which hotels it suits, and the first evening on the Palm.

How much is a taxi from Dubai Airport to Atlantis The Palm?
About AED 90-120 on the meter for the 35 km ride, which takes 30-45 minutes without traffic and longer in the 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM rush. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport rank and adds about AED 2 per km; cards are accepted, and Careem or Uber cost about the same or slightly more.

The four ways from DXB to the Palm, ranked
#1
Taxi from the airport rank
The Palm was built for cars, and the taxi is the only option that reaches every hotel on it, trunk or crescent, in one ride. The meter opens at about AED 25 at the airport rank and adds about AED 2 per km, so the 35 km to Atlantis comes to AED 90-120 without traffic; the drive is 30-45 minutes down Sheikh Zayed Road and out along the trunk, longer in the 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM rush.
#2
Metro, tram and the Palm Monorail
Three vehicles and about 1.5 hours: the Red Line from Terminal 1 or 3 to Sobha Realty in about 45-55 minutes, the Dubai Tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop, then the monorail from the Gateway station at the base of the trunk to Atlantis Aquaventure in about 15 minutes. It costs about AED 7.5 on the metro, about AED 3 on the tram and roughly AED 20-30 for a return monorail ticket, plus the AED 25 Nol card.
#3
Careem, Uber or Hala
Same 30-45 minutes as the taxi at a similar or slightly higher price, with the advantage that the driver already has your hotel pinned; on the crescent, where the resorts sit in a row along one road, that saves the conversation. Hala inside the Careem app books an ordinary RTA taxi. If your phone has no data in arrivals, the rank outside is quicker than waiting for the app to load.
#4
Metro to the Marina, then a taxi
A sensible middle way for a crescent hotel with one bag. The metro does the long haul from the airport for about AED 7.5, and a taxi from the rank at Sobha Realty or DMCC covers the 12-15 km to the Palm in 20-30 minutes for about AED 35-50. Budget 65-85 minutes and around AED 45-60 in total, against AED 90-120 straight from the airport.
The short answer: the Palm is a taxi destination
Take a taxi from the rank at any terminal: 30-45 minutes and about AED 90-120 to Atlantis or any other hotel on Palm Jumeirah. It is the only option that goes to the door of every hotel on the island, and with two people and luggage it costs less per head than the public route once you have bought the Nol cards and the monorail tickets.
The public route is for one bag, daylight and a hotel on the trunk or at Atlantis. Metro Red Line to Sobha Realty in the Marina, the tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop, the Palm Monorail up the trunk to Atlantis Aquaventure: about 1.5 hours, about AED 30-40 including a return monorail ticket, and a fair amount of walking between platforms. The crescent hotels other than Atlantis are not on the monorail at all.
If you have not booked the hotel yet and the transfer maths puts you off, the Marina next door has metro stations, the yacht pier and the beach, and the Palm is 20-30 minutes away by taxi when you want it; we weigh the two in Dubai Marina vs Palm Jumeirah.
Every option from DXB to Palm Jumeirah, compared
Fares and times are typical, not fixed: taxi meters run on time in traffic, Metro fares depend on the zones you cross and the monorail sells its own ticket. Check the RTA app and the official sites before you travel.
| Option | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi from the airport rank | 30-45 min, longer at 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM | About AED 90-120 | AED 25 flag fall at the airport, about AED 2 per km; reaches every hotel on the trunk and the crescent; cards accepted |
| Careem, Uber or Hala | 30-45 min | Similar to the taxi or slightly more | Fare and meeting point shown in the app; the hotel is already pinned for the driver |
| Metro + tram + Palm Monorail | About 1.5 hours with three changes | About AED 30-40 in fares, plus AED 25 for the Nol Silver card | Terminals 1 and 3 only; ends at the trunk and Atlantis, not the other crescent hotels; monorail ticket roughly AED 20-30 return |
| Metro to the Marina + taxi | 65-85 min | About AED 45-60 | Red Line to Sobha Realty or DMCC, then 12-15 km by taxi for about AED 35-50 |
| Resort transfer arranged by the hotel | 30-45 min | Ask the hotel; usually the most expensive line here | Most resorts offer one on request; worth comparing with the taxi before you land |
Third-party fares and timetables change; the RTA site or app and the monorail's own site have the current figures.
There is no public bus from the airport to the Palm worth planning around, so those are the real choices. The city-wide comparison of taxis, the metered fare structure and the moments Careem beats the street taxi are in taxis in Dubai.
Trunk, crescent or Atlantis: where your hotel is decides the route
Palm Jumeirah is shaped like its name: a trunk running out from the mainland at Al Sufouh, fronds of villas branching off it, and a crescent breakwater around the outside with the big resorts on it. The monorail runs up the trunk only, from the Gateway station at the base past Nakheel Mall to Atlantis Aquaventure at the top, where the trunk meets the crescent.
Hotels on the trunk and around Palm West Beach are within reach of the monorail stations, though a hotel a kilometre from Nakheel Mall is still a taxi ride with a suitcase. Atlantis The Palm has the monorail's last station at its door, and Atlantis The Royal stands next to it on the crescent. The other crescent hotels are strung along Crescent Road on both arms and are reached only by road: from the airport that means a taxi, or the metro to the Marina and a taxi from there.
Before you pick, it is worth knowing what the island is like to stay on: quiet, resort-scale, beautiful from the water and a taxi ride from everything else. The whole island, from Aquaventure to The Pointe, is in the Palm Jumeirah area guide.
Step by step: metro, tram and monorail to Atlantis
This is the route for a solo traveller or a couple with cabin bags landing in daylight at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, both of which have a Red Line station under cover from arrivals. From Terminal 2 there is no station, and the public route makes no sense; take the taxi.
- 1. Follow the Metro signs from arrivals and buy a Nol Silver card at the ticket office or a machine: about AED 25 including AED 19 of credit. It pays for the metro and the tram; the monorail sells its own ticket, so check at the gate whether the Nol card is accepted there or buy a monorail ticket separately.
- 2. Board a Red Line train heading away from Centrepoint, signed for Expo City or the UAE Exchange end of the line; both pass through the Marina. Avoid the Gold Class and women-and-children sections at the front unless they apply to you.
- 3. Ride about 45-55 minutes to Sobha Realty, the first of the two Marina stations. You pass Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates on the way; station names carry sponsors and change, so watch for the Marina on the map rather than the name.
- 4. Cross the footbridge to the Dubai Tram and tap the same Nol card (about AED 3). Take the tram towards Al Sufouh, away from JBR, and get off at the Palm Jumeirah stop, about 10 minutes later.
- 5. Walk to the Gateway monorail station at the base of the Palm trunk, next to the tram stop, and buy the ticket: roughly AED 20-30 for a return, check the current price on the day.
- 6. Ride the monorail up the trunk, about 15 minutes with the fronds and the villas below you, past Nakheel Mall to the Atlantis Aquaventure terminus. From there it is a short walk into Atlantis, or a taxi from the resort rank to a crescent hotel.
- 7. Check the monorail hours before a late arrival. It does not run all night, and if you arrive at the Gateway after the last train, a taxi from the base of the trunk is a short ride and a small fare.
Add it up and the trip is about 1.5 hours from the airport platform to the Atlantis lobby, three tap-ins, two changes on foot and a ticket machine. It is a genuinely pleasant ride in daylight, and the monorail gives a fine view down the trunk, but it is a sightseeing route, not a transfer. With more than one bag each, book the taxi and ride the monorail on another afternoon. The same route from the Marina side, with the taxi and the by-yacht alternatives, is in Dubai Marina to Palm Jumeirah.
The taxi from the airport: what to expect
Follow the taxi signs out of any terminal to the rank. The cream RTA cars are metered: about AED 25 flag fall at the airport, about AED 2 per km, so AED 90-120 for the 35 km to Atlantis and a little less to a hotel at the base of the trunk. The route is Sheikh Zayed Road, then across to the coast and the length of the trunk and, for the crescent, the road round to your resort. Cards are accepted; round up as the tip. Pink-roof cars are the ladies' taxis, for women and families.
Timing follows the highway: 30-45 minutes on a normal day, longer between 7 and 9:30 AM and 5 and 8 PM and on Friday and Saturday evenings. Give the driver the full hotel name and say whether it is on the crescent; the resorts along Crescent Road look alike from the car, and the last few minutes are where a wrong turn costs ten more.
Careem and Uber pick up from every terminal at similar or slightly higher prices, with the fare and the meeting point shown in the app; Hala, inside Careem, sends the same RTA taxi. At night, when the metro has stopped, the road is empty and the taxi's 35 km takes closer to 30 minutes than 45.
Your first evening on the Palm
Arrival day on the Palm should end at the water. The Pointe, at the top of the trunk facing Atlantis across the water, has the Palm Fountain with free evening shows and a row of waterfront restaurants; Palm West Beach on the trunk is the sunset walk, with the Marina skyline across the water and the sun going down over the sea at about 5:30 PM in December and about 7:10 PM in June.
For the view from above, The View at The Palm on the 52nd floor of the Palm Tower (about AED 70-100) is the photo everyone wants of the fronds and the crescent, and it sits over Nakheel Mall on the monorail line. Aquaventure and The Lost Chambers at Atlantis are full-day things for the days that follow, and the sea temperature, 20-24°C in winter and up to 33°C in summer, makes the beach usable all year.
The Palm from the water: the better way to see it
The Palm is the highlight of every yacht route out of Dubai Marina, and from the sea is the only way to see the whole shape at once: the fronds, the crescent, Atlantis and Atlantis The Royal at the top. A private charter of 3 hours sails into the Palm lagoon with a swim stop off the fronds; 4 hours adds Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the open sea. The 35 ft Uno takes 9 guests from AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, captain, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included, and the full fleet of 30 boats from 31 to 150 ft is at yacht rental in Dubai. You send the date, hours and guest count on WhatsApp, and we confirm the yacht with the marina before any payment.
After dark, the Dubai Marina yacht party sails around the Palm lagoon on its 9 PM to 1 AM route past Ain Dubai, JBR and Burj Al Arab, with a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks for $99; it is strictly 21+ with an original ID and paid in advance. The 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 stays in the Marina, JBR and Bluewaters and does not reach the Palm, which is worth knowing before you book it for that reason.
Both cruises and all the charters leave from the pier behind Al Majara Tower in Dubai Marina: about 12-15 km from Atlantis, 20-30 minutes and about AED 35-50 by taxi, or the monorail and the tram in reverse. What each stage of the route shows and how long it takes is in the Marina yacht route.
From the second day, our tours collect you on the Palm
The airport is the last transfer you organise yourself. The full-day desert safari sends an air-conditioned 4x4 to your Palm hotel for the 45-60 minute drive to the Lahbab Red Dunes: dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride at sunset and the dinner and shows at Al Khayma camp, 7 hours door to door, from $45 or $65 with the 30-minute quad bike, with no prepayment. The Abu Dhabi city tour picks up at 8:00 AM for the Grand Mosque, the BAPS Mandir and the Corniche, from $45 shared or $245 for a private car for up to 7, also paid on the day. The sunrise balloon collects you before dawn anywhere in Dubai city, $275 with a 30% deposit, and sells out one to two weeks ahead.
Heading back to the airport, the taxi is the same 30-45 minutes and slightly cheaper, because the flag fall is about AED 5 in the city rather than AED 25 at the airport rank; ask the hotel to call one 15 minutes before you want to leave, and allow extra time in the evening rush. If you are moving on to a Marina hotel first, the transfer is short and the options are different, and they are in Dubai Airport to Dubai Marina.
FAQ
How much is a taxi from Dubai Airport to Atlantis The Palm?
About AED 90-120 on the meter for the 35 km ride, which takes 30-45 minutes without traffic and longer in the 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM rush. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport rank and adds about AED 2 per km; cards are accepted, and Careem or Uber cost about the same or slightly more.
Is there a Metro station on Palm Jumeirah?
No. The nearest Red Line stations are Sobha Realty and DMCC in Dubai Marina; from there the Dubai Tram runs to the Palm Jumeirah stop and the Palm Monorail goes up the trunk to Atlantis. From the airport the whole chain takes about 1.5 hours and costs about AED 30-40 in fares plus the AED 25 Nol card, and it only reaches the trunk and Atlantis.
How long does the Palm Monorail take and what does it cost?
About 15 minutes from the Gateway station at the base of the trunk, next to the tram stop, to Atlantis Aquaventure at the top, with a stop at Nakheel Mall on the way. A return ticket is roughly AED 20-30; check the current price and running hours on the day, as it does not run all night.
How far is Palm Jumeirah from Dubai Marina?
About 12-15 km from Atlantis to the Marina, 20-30 minutes and about AED 35-50 by taxi. Without a car, the monorail down the trunk and the tram from the Palm Jumeirah stop take you to the Marina and JBR; the yacht pier behind Al Majara Tower, where our cruises leave, is near Dubai Marina Mall.
Can I walk from the tram to the Palm Monorail?
Yes. The Dubai Tram's Palm Jumeirah stop is linked to the Gateway monorail station at the base of the trunk, a short walk. The tram takes about 10 minutes from the Marina stations, and the monorail about 15 minutes from the Gateway to Atlantis Aquaventure.
Do your tours pick up from Palm Jumeirah hotels?
Yes. The desert safari (7 hours, from $45), the Abu Dhabi city tour (8:00 AM, from $45) and the sunrise balloon ($275) all include pickup and drop-off at hotels across Dubai, the Palm included. The yacht cruises and charters have no pickup: they leave from the pier behind Al Majara Tower in Dubai Marina, 20-30 minutes away by taxi.
What is the best way to see the whole of Palm Jumeirah?
From the sea or from above. A 3-hour private charter sails into the Palm lagoon with a swim stop, from AED 400 per hour for a 35 ft boat, and the 9 PM yacht party circles the lagoon at night for $99 per person. On land, The View at The Palm on the 52nd floor of the Palm Tower, about AED 70-100, shows the fronds and the crescent in one frame.
