Jumeirah Beach Residence, JBR, is the beach strip in front of Dubai Marina, about 35 km from Dubai International. With luggage, take a taxi from the rank: 35-50 minutes and about AED 80-110 to any hotel on The Walk. With one bag and daylight, the Metro Red Line from Terminal 1 or 3 reaches DMCC in about 45-55 minutes and the tram from its footbridge puts you on The Walk at JBR 1 or JBR 2: about AED 10 in fares, 60-75 minutes door to door. Below: the options compared, the tram step by step, where the JBR hotels are, and the first evening on the beach.

How much is a taxi from Dubai Airport to JBR?
About AED 80-110 on the meter for the 35 km to Jumeirah Beach Residence, taking 35-50 minutes without traffic and up to 60-80 in the 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM rush. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport rank and adds about AED 2 per km; cards are accepted, and Careem or Uber cost about the same or slightly more.

The four ways from DXB to JBR, ranked
#1
Taxi from the airport rank
The straightforward choice for a beach holiday with beach-holiday luggage. Out of arrivals to the rank, 35 km down Sheikh Zayed Road and off at the Marina exit to your hotel on The Walk: the meter opens at about AED 25 at the airport, adds about AED 2 per km and lands at AED 80-110 without traffic, more between 7 and 9:30 AM and 5 and 8 PM. Cards accepted; round up for the driver.
#2
Metro to DMCC, then the tram to JBR
The cheapest way and the one the traffic cannot touch. The Red Line from the station inside Terminal 1 or 3 reaches DMCC, the Marina and JLT stop, in about 45-55 minutes; a footbridge over Sheikh Zayed Road leads to the tram, and JBR 1 and JBR 2 are the next stops, right on The Walk with the beach behind. Budget 60-75 minutes and buy a Nol Silver card (about AED 25 with AED 19 credit) first.
#3
Careem, Uber or Hala
The same road and the same 35-50 minutes at a similar or slightly higher price than the metered taxi, with the hotel already pinned for the driver and the fare on the screen before you get in. Hala inside the Careem app books the ordinary RTA taxi. It needs data in arrivals, so it pairs with the free airport SIM; otherwise the rank outside is faster.
#4
Metro to DMCC, then a taxi to the hotel
The metro does the 35 km for about AED 7.5, and a taxi from the rank outside DMCC station covers the last couple of kilometres across the Marina to The Walk at the minimum fare of about AED 12. Around AED 20-25 in all and 55-65 minutes, and the case never touches a tram platform. Best for hotels at the ends of the strip, furthest from the two tram stops.
The short answer: taxi with the beach bags, metro and tram with one
Take a taxi from the rank at any terminal if you have luggage, if you are two or more, or if you land after midnight: 35-50 minutes and about AED 80-110 to the door of any JBR hotel. The Walk is a single street with the hotels on it, so there is no hunting for the entrance, and three people splitting the fare pay about the same each as the metro costs once the Nol cards are bought.
Take the metro and the tram if you are travelling light in daylight. The Red Line from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 reaches DMCC station in about 45-55 minutes for about AED 7.5; the footbridge over Sheikh Zayed Road leads to the tram, and one or two stops later you are on The Walk at JBR 1 or JBR 2 for about AED 3 more. Allow 60-75 minutes from the airport platform to the hotel.
JBR and Dubai Marina are neighbours, one row of towers apart, and most of the logic is shared; the Marina version of this route, with the second metro station and the canal-side hotels, is in Dubai Airport to Dubai Marina. This guide is about the beach side.
Every option from DXB to JBR, compared
Fares and times are typical, not fixed: taxi meters run on time in traffic and the Metro fare depends on the zones crossed. Check the RTA app or the station machines on the day.
| Option | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi from the airport rank | 35-50 min, longer at 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM | About AED 80-110 | AED 25 flag fall at the airport, about AED 2 per km; cards accepted; pink-roof cars are the ladies' taxis |
| Careem, Uber or Hala | 35-50 min | Similar to the taxi or slightly more | Fare and meeting point shown in the app; Hala books the RTA taxi through Careem |
| Metro to DMCC, then the tram | About 45-55 min on the train plus 10-15 min | About AED 10 in fares, plus AED 25 for the Nol Silver card | Terminals 1 and 3 only; trains from about 5 AM to midnight or 1 AM, from around 8 AM on Sundays |
| Metro to DMCC, then a taxi | About 45-55 min plus 5-10 min | About AED 7.5, plus AED 12-15 for the taxi | The door-to-door version for hotels at the far ends of The Walk |
| Metro Gold Class | Same train | About AED 15, double the standard fare | The first carriage, usually with a seat free; needs a Gold card or Gold ticket |
Third-party fares and timetables change; the official RTA site or app has the current figures.
No airport bus reaches JBR in a time worth planning around, and a hotel car is the most expensive line you could add, so the choice is the taxi, the app car or the train.
Step by step: the Metro and the tram from Terminal 1 or 3 to The Walk
Emirates lands at Terminal 3 and most other international airlines at Terminal 1; both have a Red Line station reached under cover from arrivals. Terminal 2, on the other side of the airfield, has no station, so from there the taxi rank is the answer.
- 1. Follow the Metro signs from arrivals and buy a Nol Silver card at the office or a machine: about AED 25, of which AED 19 is credit. The same card pays for the tram, which you will use every day in JBR, so it is not a wasted purchase.
- 2. Board a Red Line train heading away from Centrepoint, signed for Expo City or the UAE Exchange end of the line; both pass through the Marina. The front sections are Gold Class and women-and-children only, so board further back unless that is you.
- 3. Ride about 45-55 minutes and get off at DMCC, the second of the two Marina stations, after Sobha Realty. Sponsors rename stations, so look for the Marina and JLT on the map; DMCC is the one with the tram stop for JBR on its footbridge.
- 4. Cross the footbridge over Sheikh Zayed Road to the tram stop and tap the same Nol card, about AED 3. The tram towards JBR is the direction away from Al Sufouh; the platform signs and the map on the pillar make it clear.
- 5. Ride one or two stops to JBR 1 or JBR 2. Both are on The Walk, the street that runs the length of JBR with the towers on both sides, and the beach and The Beach mall are behind the seaward row. Check on the hotel map which stop is nearer; the strip is about 20 minutes on foot end to end.
- 6. Walk to the hotel. From either stop the hotels are a few minutes along The Walk, level ground under the arcades, easy with a wheeled bag. Tap out at the tram stop before you leave it.
The tram will be your JBR vehicle for the whole stay: it reaches the Marina stations, Dubai Marina Mall and the yacht pier, the Palm Jumeirah stop for the monorail and Media City, all for a few dirhams a ride, and it runs on the same Nol card as the metro.
Where the JBR hotels are, and which stop they want
JBR is one long row of towers on the beach between Dubai Marina and the sea. The Walk is the street on the landward side of the seaward row, with cafés under the arcades and the tram stops on it; The Beach is the open-air mall on the sand side, and JBR Beach runs the whole length in front of both. The hotels stand in the same row as the residential towers, some right on the sand with their own beach clubs, most a short walk across The Walk from it.
The Bluewaters end. At the north-eastern end of the strip, the footbridge crosses to Bluewaters Island, Ain Dubai fills the window and Dubai Harbour with the superyacht marina lies beyond. Hotels here are the furthest from the tram stops and the nearest to the wheel for photos; a taxi from DMCC or from the airport suits them best. The island itself is in the Bluewaters Island guide.
The middle, by The Beach. The busiest and most convenient stretch: the tram stops, the restaurants, the beach mall and the widest sand. Metro and tram work perfectly here.
The Marina Walk end. The south-western end, where JBR runs into the Marina's own towers; quieter, served by the same tram, and like the rest of the strip 10-20 minutes on foot from the yacht pier by Dubai Marina Mall.
Behind the whole strip, across one road, is Dubai Marina, 10-20 minutes on foot or a stop or two on the tram, with its own two metro stations, the canal and the Marina Walk. Which side of that road to sleep on, beach versus canal, noise versus views, is the whole of Dubai Marina vs JBR, and the beach strip itself, from The Beach to the tram, is in the JBR guide.
The taxi: what it costs, and when it is the only sensible choice
Follow the taxi signs from any terminal to the rank. The cream RTA cars are metered: about AED 25 flag fall at the airport, about AED 2 per km, so AED 80-110 for the 35 km to The Walk, cards accepted, rounding up as the tip. Pink-roof cars are the ladies' taxis, driven by women, for women and families. Give the driver the hotel name and JBR; the drop-off is at the hotel entrance on The Walk or its inland side, not on the sand.
The road is Sheikh Zayed Road almost the whole way, and its timing decides your day: 35-50 minutes most of the time, 60-80 in the morning and evening rush, when a single bag on the train beats the car. Late at night the metro is closed (it runs from about 5 AM to midnight or 1 AM, and from around 8 AM on Sundays) and the road is empty, so the taxi is the answer and takes closer to 35 minutes than 50.
Careem and Uber pick up from every terminal at similar or slightly higher prices and show the fare and the meeting point before you book; Hala, inside Careem, sends the RTA taxi. They need data, which in arrivals means a SIM or an eSIM sorted before you land; without it, the rank is quicker.
Your first evening: the beach, then the water
JBR is the rare hotel district where you can land at 3 PM and be in the sea by 5. JBR Beach is a few minutes from every hotel on the strip, the water is 20-24°C in the winter season and up to 33°C in summer, and the sun sets over it at about 5:30 PM in December and about 7:10 PM in June, with Ain Dubai on Bluewaters lit up at the end of the beach as the sky goes. Swim between the flags; the currents beyond them are the one thing this coast asks you to respect. How JBR compares with Kite Beach, Sunset Beach and the Palm's West Beach is in the best beaches in Dubai.
Then the water from the other side. The yacht pier sits behind Al Majara Tower by Dubai Marina Mall, 10-20 minutes on foot from JBR through the Marina or two tram stops from JBR 1 to Dubai Marina Mall. The 1-hour shared yacht tour leaves hourly from $32 per person: the Marina canal, along JBR and Bluewaters and a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai, with your own hotel in the frame. Check in 20 minutes before departure at Level P, Al Majara Tower, with an original passport or Emirates ID; the yacht leaves on time and the hourly slots sell out, so it is paid in advance and best booked before you fly, ideally for the departure an hour before sunset. The exact walk and the tram stop for the pier are in how to get to the yacht pier.
After dark, the Dubai Marina yacht party boards at 8:30 PM at the same pier and sails at 9 PM sharp: four hours past Ain Dubai, along JBR, around the Palm lagoon to Burj Al Arab and back by about 1 AM, with a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks for $99, strictly 21+ with an original ID, smart casual, paid in advance. A group that landed together can have a boat of its own instead: the 48 ft Orion takes 12 guests from AED 800 per hour with a 2-hour minimum, captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included, and the whole fleet is at yacht rental in Dubai. Send the date, hours and guest count on WhatsApp and we confirm the yacht with the marina before you pay anything.
From the second day, our tours collect you on The Walk
The airport is the last transfer you organise. The full-day desert safari sends an air-conditioned 4x4 to your JBR hotel for the 45-60 minute drive to the Lahbab Red Dunes: 30-45 minutes of dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride at sunset and the dinner with fire, Tanoura and belly dance shows at Al Khayma camp, 7 hours door to door, from $45 per person or $65 with the 30-minute quad bike, with no prepayment. The Abu Dhabi city tour picks up at 8:00 AM, and JBR is a good place to leave from, about 1.5 hours to the Grand Mosque; from $45 shared or $245 for a private car for up to 7, paid on the day. The sunrise balloon collects you before dawn anywhere in Dubai city for $275, with a 30% deposit and baskets that sell out one to two weeks ahead.
For the flight home, a taxi from The Walk to DXB is the same 35-50 minutes at about AED 80-110, slightly less than inbound because the flag fall is about AED 5 in the city; ask the hotel to call it and allow extra time in the evening rush and for the right terminal, since Terminal 2 is a separate drive. The tram and the metro work in reverse, JBR to DMCC and the Red Line towards Centrepoint to Airport Terminal 1 or 3, in about the same 60-75 minutes, and the credit left on your Nol card covers it.
FAQ
How much is a taxi from Dubai Airport to JBR?
About AED 80-110 on the meter for the 35 km to Jumeirah Beach Residence, taking 35-50 minutes without traffic and up to 60-80 in the 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM rush. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport rank and adds about AED 2 per km; cards are accepted, and Careem or Uber cost about the same or slightly more.
How do I get from Dubai Airport to JBR by Metro?
Take the Red Line from the station in Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 to DMCC, about 45-55 minutes, cross the footbridge to the Dubai Tram and ride one or two stops to JBR 1 or JBR 2 on The Walk. The fares come to about AED 10 on a Nol Silver card (about AED 25 with AED 19 of credit), and the trip takes 60-75 minutes door to door.
Which tram stop is JBR?
Two: JBR 1 and JBR 2, both on The Walk, the street that runs the length of the strip with the hotels on it and the beach behind. They are the two stops after the DMCC footbridge; check the hotel map for the nearer one. The whole of JBR is about 20 minutes on foot end to end.
Is JBR far from Dubai Marina?
No, they adjoin. JBR is the beach row and the Marina is the canal district directly behind it, one road apart: a 10-20 minute walk or a single tram stop. The two Marina metro stations, Dubai Marina Mall and the yacht pier behind Al Majara Tower are all within that walk.
Can I go to the beach on the day I arrive in JBR?
Yes. JBR Beach is a few minutes from every hotel on the strip, the sea is 20-24°C in the winter season and up to 33°C in summer, and the sunset, about 5:30 PM in December and 7:10 PM in June, is the best first hour in Dubai. Swim between the flags, drink water, and bring the sunscreen for the afternoon even in January.
How do I get from JBR to the yacht pier in Dubai Marina?
The pier is behind Al Majara Tower, next to Dubai Marina Mall: a 10-20 minute walk through the Marina from The Walk, two tram stops from JBR 1 to Dubai Marina Mall, or a taxi at the minimum fare of about AED 12. The 1-hour shared yacht tour checks in 20 minutes before departure at Level P; the yacht party boards at 8:30 PM.
Do your tours pick up from JBR hotels?
Yes. The desert safari (7 hours, from $45), the Abu Dhabi city tour (8:00 AM pickup, from $45) and the sunrise balloon ($275, pre-dawn) all include pickup and drop-off at hotels across Dubai, JBR included; the safari and the Abu Dhabi day take no payment until the day. The yacht cruises have no pickup because the pier is a short walk away.
