Dubai Marina Shared Yacht Tour — From $32 per person

Dubai International (DXB) to Dubai Marina is about 35 km down Sheikh Zayed Road. With luggage or two or more people, take a taxi from the airport rank: 35-50 minutes and about AED 80-110. With one bag and daylight to spare, the Metro Red Line runs from Terminals 1 and 3 straight to the two Marina stations, Sobha Realty and DMCC, for about AED 7.5 on a Nol card; a tram ride or a short walk finishes the job in 60-75 minutes door to door. Below: every option side by side, the metro step by step, when the taxi wins, and how to spend your first evening on the water.

How much is a taxi from Dubai Airport to Dubai Marina?

About AED 80-110 on the meter for the 35 km trip, taking 35-50 minutes without traffic. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport rank and adds about AED 2 per km; rush hour (7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM) can add 20-30 minutes and a few dirhams. Cards are accepted, and Careem or Uber cost about the same or slightly more.

The four ways from DXB to the Marina, ranked

Taxi from the airport rank #1
Terminals 1, 2 and 3, 35-50 minutes Luggage, families, night arrivals, about AED 80-110

Taxi from the airport rank

The default for most arrivals. Follow the taxi signs out of arrivals, join the queue at the rank and you are on Sheikh Zayed Road within minutes. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport and adds about AED 2 per km, so budget AED 80-110 without traffic, more in the 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM rush. Cards accepted; round up as the tip.

Metro Red Line and the tram #2
Terminal 1 or 3 to DMCC or Sobha Realty One bag, daytime, about AED 7.5 plus the Nol card

Metro Red Line and the tram

The cheapest way into the city and immune to traffic. The Red Line leaves from stations inside Terminals 1 and 3, reaches the Marina in about 45-55 minutes and drops you at Sobha Realty or DMCC, both linked by footbridge to the Dubai Tram. Allow 60-75 minutes door to door and buy a Nol Silver card (about AED 25 with AED 19 of credit) before you board.

Careem, Uber or Hala #3
Booked in the app from arrivals Seeing the fare before you ride, no queue at the rank

Careem, Uber or Hala

Careem and Uber run from the airport at similar or slightly higher prices than the metered taxi, and the app tells you where to meet the car and roughly what you will pay before you commit. Hala is the same street taxi booked through Careem. Useful when the rank queue is long after a big Emirates arrival wave, or when you want to type the hotel name once and not explain it.

Metro to DMCC, then a taxi to the door #4
Red Line, then about AED 12-15 by taxi Cheap, without dragging a suitcase onto the tram

Metro to DMCC, then a taxi to the door

The compromise that works for a lot of hotels. Ride the metro for about AED 7.5, come down from DMCC station and take a taxi from the rank outside for the last 2-3 km: the minimum fare is about AED 12, so the whole trip is around AED 20-25 and you still skip the airport queue and the Sheikh Zayed Road traffic. Best when your hotel is deep in the Marina, away from the tram stops.

The short answer: taxi with bags, metro with one

Take a taxi if you have suitcases, if you are two or more, or if you land after midnight. From the rank outside any terminal it is 35-50 minutes to Dubai Marina and about AED 80-110 on the meter, which split three ways is close to what the metro costs once you have bought the card. The driver takes you to the hotel door, and in the Marina that matters: most towers sit on the canal, a few hundred metres and a footbridge away from the nearest tram stop.

Take the metro if you are travelling light and arrive in daylight. The Red Line runs from stations inside Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, costs about AED 7.5 for the airport-to-Marina trip on a Nol Silver card and does not care about traffic. Get off at Sobha Realty or DMCC, cross the footbridge to the tram or walk 10-15 minutes, and you are at the water 60-75 minutes after leaving the platform.

Everything else is detail, and the detail is below. If you are landing at Dubai World Central instead, the picture is different: no metro, a bus to Ibn Battuta or a taxi, and we cover it in DWC to Dubai Marina, Downtown and the Palm.

Every option from DXB to Dubai Marina, compared

Distances and fares below are typical, not promises: taxi meters run on time as well as distance, and the Metro fare depends on the zones you cross. Check the meter, the app or the RTA machines on the day.

Third-party fares and timetables change; check the RTA app or the official site before you travel.

There is no direct express bus worth planning around for this route, and a hotel car is almost always the most expensive line on the list, so the real choice is the three at the top. For the full picture of what runs where, see how to get around Dubai.

Step by step: the Metro from Terminal 1 or 3 to the Marina

Emirates flights land at Terminal 3; most other international airlines use Terminal 1. Both have a Red Line station linked to the terminal, so the walk from baggage reclaim is a few minutes under cover. Terminal 2, on the far side of the airfield, has no station of its own: take a taxi from its rank.

  • 1. Follow the Metro signs. After customs, the signs for the Metro take you to the station without going outside. Pack for one bag per person if you are doing this; the trolley stays at the terminal.
  • 2. Buy a Nol Silver card. At the ticket office or a machine: about AED 25, of which AED 19 is credit. You need it for the metro, the tram and the buses for the rest of the trip; the red paper ticket (about AED 2 plus the fare) is only worth it for a single ride.
  • 3. Board a Red Line train heading away from Centrepoint. Trains signed for Expo City or for the UAE Exchange end of the line both pass through the Marina; the branch splits after it. The first carriage sections are Gold Class and women-and-children only, so board further back unless that applies to you.
  • 4. Ride for about 45-55 minutes. You pass Deira, Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, Business Bay and Mall of the Emirates before the towers of the Marina appear on the right. Trains run every 3-7 minutes, so a missed one costs nothing.
  • 5. Get off at Sobha Realty or DMCC. Sobha Realty comes first and suits the towers at the Media City end and the Marina Promenade; DMCC is next and suits Marina Walk, Dubai Marina Mall, JLT and the yacht pier behind Al Majara Tower. Station sponsor names change, so look for the Marina on the map if the signs differ.
  • 6. Cross to the tram, or walk. Both stations have a footbridge over Sheikh Zayed Road to a Dubai Tram stop; tap the same Nol card (about AED 3) and ride to Dubai Marina Mall, or on to JBR 1 and JBR 2 for the beach. Without a heavy bag, the walk from the bridge to the canal is 10-15 minutes.
  • 7. Tap out. Nol charges by the zones you crossed at the exit gate; airport to Marina is the top fare, about AED 7.5. Keep the card, you will use it again on the way back.

If any of that feels like too many steps after a long flight, that is your answer: take the taxi. For the lines, the key stations and the etiquette in one place, read the Dubai Metro guide for tourists.

When a taxi is the smarter choice

The metro wins on price and reliability, but there are five situations where the taxi rank is simply the right call, and none of them is about laziness.

Late night. The metro runs from about 5 AM to midnight or 1 AM depending on the day, and starts later on Sundays (around 8 AM). A 2 AM landing means the taxi, full stop; the rank is staffed around the clock and the road is empty, so the 35 km takes closer to 35 minutes than 50.

Two or more people with luggage. AED 80-110 is one fare for the car, not per person. Three friends with cases pay about AED 30 each for a door-to-door ride; on the metro each of them would first spend AED 25 on a Nol card, so the saving is a few dirhams and the price is an hour, a footbridge and a tram with the cases.

Terminal 2. No metro station, so the rank is the only sensible option unless you want to cross the airfield first.

A hotel away from the tram. The Marina is a long canal with towers on both banks; if your hotel is on the far side or at the Media City end, the last stretch from the tram can be a 15-minute walk with a bag in 35-degree air. A taxi from DMCC (minimum fare about AED 12) or from the airport fixes that.

Rush hour is the exception the other way. Between 7 and 9:30 AM and 5 and 8 PM, Sheikh Zayed Road clogs and the taxi's 35-50 minutes can become 60-80 while the meter keeps ticking. If you land at 5 PM with one bag, the metro will beat the car. Fares, surcharges and the Careem-versus-street-taxi question are covered in taxis in Dubai.

Your first evening in the Marina, from the water

The Marina is the one district in Dubai where the best thing to do on arrival day is also the easiest to reach. The yacht pier sits behind Al Majara Tower, next to Dubai Marina Mall, a 5-20 minute walk from anywhere in the Marina or a taxi at the minimum fare. Drop the bags and go to the water while the light is still good.

The easiest booking is the 1-hour shared yacht tour: from $32 per person, hourly departures, a premium yacht through the Marina canal, along JBR and Bluewaters with a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai. Check-in is 20 minutes before departure at Level P, Al Majara Tower, the yacht leaves strictly on time, and every guest needs an original passport or Emirates ID, which you will have on you from the airport anyway. Full prepayment secures the slot because the hourly departures sell out, so book it before you fly and choose the departure an hour before sunset: about 5:30 PM in December, about 7:10 PM in June.

Landed early and staying up? The Dubai Marina yacht party boards at 8:30 PM at the same pier, leaves at 9 PM sharp and returns around 1 AM: a live DJ, a live BBQ, unlimited soft drinks and the Palm, Atlantis and Burj Al Arab lit up from the sea for $99. Strictly 21+ with an original ID, smart casual, no swimwear, paid in advance.

For a group that landed together, a private boat costs less than most people expect: the 31 ft Sealine takes 6 guests from AED 400 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours, captain, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included, boarding at the marina lounge on the marina level of Al Majara Tower. Send us the date, hours and guest count on WhatsApp and we confirm the yacht with the marina before you pay anything; the whole fleet is at yacht rental in Dubai.

On foot, the Marina Walk is a 7 km loop around the canal, Pier 7 and the twisted Cayan Tower are on it, and JBR with The Beach and The Walk is 10-20 minutes away or one tram stop. Ain Dubai on Bluewaters is the landmark to photograph from JBR beach or the footbridge. The whole district, hour by hour, is in the Dubai Marina area guide; the exact way to the pier for both cruises is in how to get to the yacht pier.

From the second day, the transfers are ours

The airport is the last transfer you need to organise yourself if you stay in the Marina. Our day tours collect you at the hotel and return you to it, and two of the three take no payment until the day.

The full-day desert safari sends an air-conditioned 4x4 to the lobby for the 45-60 minute drive to the Lahbab Red Dunes: 30-45 minutes of dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride at sunset and dinner with the shows at Al Khayma camp, 7 hours from door to door, from $45 per person or $65 with the 30-minute quad bike. You agree the date on WhatsApp and pay on the day.

The Abu Dhabi city tour picks up at 8:00 AM, and the Marina is a good place to start it from: the Grand Mosque is about 1.5 hours down the E11 from here, closer than from Deira. From $45 per person with the licensed guide, or $245 for a private car for up to 7, again with no prepayment. The sunrise balloon collects you before dawn anywhere in Dubai city for $275; it needs a 30% deposit and sells out one to two weeks ahead, so it is the one to book first.

Going back to DXB from the Marina

Reverse the logic. A taxi from the hotel to the airport is the same 35-50 minutes and about AED 80-110 (the flag fall is about AED 5 when you start in the city rather than AED 25 at the airport rank), so leave 20-30 minutes extra if your flight falls in the evening rush. Ask the driver for the right terminal: Emirates is Terminal 3, and Terminal 2 is a separate drive.

The metro works just as well outbound: tram or walk to DMCC or Sobha Realty, a Red Line train towards Centrepoint, off at Airport Terminal 1 or Airport Terminal 3, about 45-55 minutes on the train. It is the calmer option for a morning flight when Sheikh Zayed Road is at its worst, and the Nol card you bought on arrival still has the credit for it. If you are flying out with more bags than you arrived with, which happens in Dubai, take the taxi.

FAQ

How much is a taxi from Dubai Airport to Dubai Marina?

About AED 80-110 on the meter for the 35 km trip, taking 35-50 minutes without traffic. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport rank and adds about AED 2 per km; rush hour (7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM) can add 20-30 minutes and a few dirhams. Cards are accepted, and Careem or Uber cost about the same or slightly more.

How long does the Metro take from Dubai Airport to Dubai Marina?

About 45-55 minutes on the Red Line from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 to Sobha Realty or DMCC, then 10-15 minutes by tram or on foot to the canal, so allow 60-75 minutes door to door. The fare is about AED 7.5 on a Nol Silver card, which costs about AED 25 with AED 19 of credit included.

Which Metro station is Dubai Marina?

Two Red Line stations serve it: Sobha Realty, the first you reach from the airport, for the Marina Promenade and the Media City end, and DMCC, the next stop, for Marina Walk, Dubai Marina Mall, JLT and the yacht pier behind Al Majara Tower. Both connect to the Dubai Tram by a footbridge over Sheikh Zayed Road.

Does the Dubai Metro run at night from the airport?

Not all night. Trains run from about 5 AM to midnight or 1 AM depending on the day, and start later on Sundays, around 8 AM. Check the RTA app for the current hours; if you land outside them, take a taxi from the rank, which is staffed around the clock.

Is Uber or Careem available at Dubai Airport?

Yes. Both operate from all terminals at prices similar to or slightly above the metered taxi, and the app shows the fare and the pickup point before you book. Hala, inside the Careem app, books the regular RTA taxi. If your phone has no data yet in arrivals, the rank outside is quicker than the app.

Is the Metro practical with suitcases?

With one bag each, yes: the stations have lifts and escalators, and the footbridges to the tram are covered. With two or more people and full luggage, a taxi is usually the sensible choice, because the last stretch from the tram stop to a Marina hotel can be a 10-15 minute walk in the heat.

Can I do a yacht cruise on the day I land in Dubai?

Yes. The 1-hour shared yacht tour departs hourly from Level P, Al Majara Tower in Dubai Marina, with check-in 20 minutes before departure, from $32 per person, paid in advance; bring your original passport, it is required for boarding. The 21+ yacht party boards at 8:30 PM at the same pier for $99.
