Which is better, Ferrari World or Warner Bros. World?

Ferrari World for teenagers, adults and thrill-seekers, because Formula Rossa launches to 240 km/h and needs 140 cm; Warner Bros. World for children under about 10 and character fans, with rides from 80 cm. Both are indoor and cost from about AED 345 online.

Beyond the two: five other ways to spend a day on Yas Island

Yas Mall: the lunch between rides #1
Yas Island; linked to Ferrari World, air-conditioned A cheaper lunch and a cool break

Yas Mall: the lunch between rides

Ferrari World is linked to Yas Mall, which makes the mall the easy lunch stop and the fallback when the heat or the queues win. It has far more food choice than a park, plus pharmacies and shops for the swimsuit or sunscreen you forgot. Warner Bros. World is a short hop away on the island shuttle, not a walk, so check the map first.

SeaWorld: the calm third park #2
Yas Island; indoor; separate ticket Under-fives, grandparents, animal lovers

SeaWorld: the calm third park

If the argument is not Ferrari versus Warner Bros. but 'what can the toddler and the grandparents do', SeaWorld is the third answer: indoor, cool, flat and built around animals. It has no big thrills, and the tickets cost about the same, so choose it deliberately rather than as a compromise.

Yas Waterworld: the cooler-months option #3
Yas Island; outdoor; separate ticket Swimmers, November to April

Yas Waterworld: the cooler-months option

The only outdoor park of the four, with slides from a lazy river to 120 cm drops. It is the right choice for a family that wants water, in the cooler months. In July and August the two indoor parks are the sensible answers, and Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World sell a combined one-day ticket for any two Yas parks.

Yas Marina Circuit #4
Yas Island, next to Ferrari World Motorsport fans on Grand Prix weekend

Yas Marina Circuit

The circuit hosts the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in early December, when the island is full and the roads are slow. Outside race season it is a landmark next door to Ferrari World, not a visit in its own right for most families. If your dates are race weekend, book early and avoid planning a park day around it.

The Grand Mosque day #5
Abu Dhabi city; 9 hours from Dubai on our tour Adults and older children who want the capital

The Grand Mosque day

A theme park and the Grand Mosque do not fit into one day. Our shared city tour from $45 covers the mosque, the BAPS Mandir, the Corniche and Heritage Village, with a Ferrari World photo stop and lunch at Yas Mall, so you see the red roof without buying a ticket. A park needs a day of its own.

The short answer: Ferrari World or Warner Bros. World?

Ferrari World is for speed; Warner Bros. World is for characters. Both are fully air-conditioned indoor parks on Yas Island, both are open all year, and both list single-day tickets from about AED 345 online. So the choice is about who is going, not about the weather or the price.

Pick Ferrari World if anyone in the group is 140 cm or taller and wants Formula Rossa, if you are mostly adults and teenagers, or if you like cars and racing. Pick Warner Bros. World if the children are under about 10, if they know Batman, Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry or Bugs Bunny, or if you want a park with lower minimum heights. If you have both a teenager and a five-year-old, the next section tells you where to compromise. Either way, plan one park per day. The Yas Island picture is in Yas Island from Dubai, and each park has its own guide: Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World.

The surprise in the table is how similar the practical details are. The ticket price, the indoor setting and the length of the day match, so the decision is about the rides.

Ages and heights: which child goes where

Height decides what each child can ride, and the two parks are closer than you might expect for the youngest. Ferrari World is not only for teenagers: it has a junior set of rides, and Warner Bros. World has serious thrills. Here is the rule of thumb:

  • Under 90 cm (about 2-3 years): Warner Bros. World has more to do, with the carousel at 80 cm and an ACME Factory play area with no minimum. Ferrari World's junior rides start at 90 cm.
  • About 100-110 cm (age 4-6): both work. Ferrari World has Formula Rossa Junior, Flying Wings, Turbo Tower and Speedway Race, and Warner Bros. World has Cartoon Junction, the Flintstones river ride and Tom and Jerry. Choose by whether the child cares about cars or characters.
  • About 120 cm (age 7-9): Warner Bros. World opens up with Batman: Knight Flight and The Riddler Revolution; Ferrari World's big coasters still need about 130-140 cm.
  • 140 cm and above (about 10 and over): Ferrari World's Formula Rossa is open, and this is where it pulls ahead for thrill-seekers.
  • Teenagers and adults: Ferrari World, unless the group is devoted to DC and Looney Tunes.
  • Mixed groups: go to Ferrari World if the oldest child is 12 or more, and to Warner Bros. World if most are under 120 cm. The younger child will cope with fewer rides much better than a teenager copes with a cartoon day.

Thrill level: what each park is best and worst at

Ferrari World has the higher peaks. Formula Rossa launches to 240 km/h and 4.8 G, and riders wear goggles, which is the reason many visitors come. Flying Aces has the world's tallest non-inverted loop, Turbo Track throws riders vertically through the red roof, and Fiorano GT Challenge is a racing coaster with two tracks. There are also simulators, a Karting Academy on a 290-metre electric go-kart track that needs advance registration, and Junior Grand Prix for children from 110 cm.

Warner Bros. World has the broader range. The thrill end is Batman: Knight Flight, a robotic-arm dark ride, the inverted Fast and Furry-ous coaster and the Kryptonite Collider at 105 cm. The soft end is wide: dozens of characters, a carousel, play areas and a Flintstones river ride. Its weakness is the other side of the same coin: adults who want extremes will finish the big rides in the first two hours.

Neither park has water rides in the Yas Waterworld sense, so a family that wants slides should read the Yas Waterworld guide. Families with the very youngest or the oldest guests might prefer the SeaWorld guide.

Tickets, two parks in one day, and the budget

Both parks list a single-day ticket from about AED 345 online, with gate prices of about AED 360-380. Junior tickets are priced by height (the break is at about 1.1 m), under-3s are free, and date changes, exchanges and refunds are handled by Yas Concierge under terms that have been revised, so read the current ones before you buy. The parks also sell a one-day ticket for any two Yas parks, and two- and three-day multi-park tickets valid for 14 days from the first visit.

PlanSensible?Our view
One park, one dayYesThe default; arrive at opening and leave before the crowd
Two parks, two days, staying on the islandYesEasier on children; hotels are minutes from the gates
Two parks in one day (Any 2 Parks ticket)Possible, tiringOnly for teenagers and adults who plan a ride list; not with under-10s
Park plus Grand Mosque in one dayNoThe mosque deserves the morning; do the capital on a different day

Tickets and rules from the parks' official sites; check them for your date.

Budget the ticket, food inside (Ferrari World has a range of dining, including an Italian restaurant open without a park ticket, and Warner Bros. World lists about 20 dining options) and the road. A taxi from Dubai is about AED 250-350 each way, and the free Yas Express shuttle for ticket holders is the cheaper option.

Getting there, and where our Abu Dhabi tour fits

Both parks say Yas Island is about 50 minutes from Dubai; allow about 1.5 hours from Dubai Marina. Free Yas Express shuttle buses run from Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman for guests with an e-ticket (check the timetable and be at the stop 5 minutes early), and the Etihad Rail route from Jumeirah Golf Estates plus the free shuttle from the Abu Dhabi station is another option. How to get from Dubai to Abu Dhabi compares them.

Our Abu Dhabi city tour, from $45 per person, is a different day. It collects you at 8:00 AM, covers the Grand Mosque, the BAPS Mandir, the Corniche and Heritage Village, and stops at Ferrari World for a photograph and at Yas Mall for lunch. Park tickets are not included, and the nine-hour loop has no time inside a park. A private car for up to 7 people at $245 has a flexible schedule, so ask us on WhatsApp what it can include.

If speed is the family's thing, the evening quad bike safari in Dubai is from $70 per person, with a 60-minute self-drive quad (solo riders must be 16-55; under-16s ride with an adult). The full-day desert safari from $45 is the gentler version. For the Dubai-side parks, best theme parks in Dubai ranks them by age group.

FAQ

Which is better, Ferrari World or Warner Bros. World?

Ferrari World for teenagers, adults and thrill-seekers, because Formula Rossa launches to 240 km/h and needs 140 cm; Warner Bros. World for children under about 10 and character fans, with rides from 80 cm. Both are indoor and cost from about AED 345 online.

Which park is better for toddlers?

Warner Bros. World has more for toddlers, with a carousel at 80 cm and an ACME Factory play area with no minimum height. Ferrari World's junior rides start at 90 cm. Under-3s enter free at both parks.

Is Ferrari World only for teenagers?

No. Ferrari World has a set of junior rides, such as Formula Rossa Junior and Speedway Race from 90 cm and Flying Wings and Turbo Tower from 105 cm. The headline Formula Rossa needs 140 cm, so the biggest thrills are for older children and adults.

Are Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World indoors?

Yes, both are fully air-conditioned and open all year, which makes them the summer choices on Yas Island. Yas Waterworld is the outdoor park, best from November to April.

Can you do Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World in one day?

The parks sell a one-day ticket for any two Yas parks, so it is allowed. Each park is a full day for most families, so we would not plan it with under-10s. Teenagers and adults with a ride list can manage it; everyone else should split the parks over two days.

How much are tickets for Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World?

Both list about AED 345 for an adult online, with gate prices of about AED 360-380 depending on the season. Junior tickets are priced by height, under-3s are free and multi-park tickets exist. Check the parks' sites for your date.

Does the Abu Dhabi city tour include Ferrari World?

It includes a photo stop outside Ferrari World and lunch at Yas Mall, not a ticket. The shared tour is from $45 per person with 8:00 AM hotel pickup, and a theme park needs a full day of its own.
