Abu Dhabi City Tour from Dubai — From $45 per person

Saadiyat Island is Abu Dhabi's museum-and-beach island, about 1.5-2 hours from Dubai, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi is the reason to come: from about AED 65 for adults, closed on Mondays, and worth 2-3 hours. The beach is the second reason, best from November to April, and the cultural district around the Louvre has more museums whose opening status you should check one by one. It does not fit into our nine-hour Abu Dhabi city tour, so give it its own day by taxi, or add it to a private car by asking us on WhatsApp.

Saadiyat Island: five things to know before you go

The Louvre Abu Dhabi #1
Saadiyat Cultural District; Jean Nouvel's dome on the water Art lovers, architecture fans, a cool summer morning

The Louvre Abu Dhabi

The reason most people come. Jean Nouvel's lattice dome throws a moving pattern of light over the white buildings and the water, and the galleries inside trace human history across cultures rather than a single country. Allow 2-3 hours, book a morning slot, and remember it is closed on Mondays. Adult tickets are from about AED 65, and under-18s have been listed as free.

Saadiyat Beach #2
The island's northern shore; public beach plus hotel beach clubs A swim and a long walk, November to April

Saadiyat Beach

White sand and clear water, with a public beach that charges a modest entry fee and beach clubs at the hotels that sell day passes. Roughly April to July the beaches are a nesting area for hawksbill turtles, and parts may be roped off, so keep to the marked areas and keep lights low at night. In summer the sea is warm and the sun is fierce, so go early.

Zayed National Museum #3
Saadiyat Cultural District; five steel falcon-wing towers The story of the UAE and its founding father

Zayed National Museum

A national museum about Sheikh Zayed and the UAE, recognisable by five tall steel towers shaped like falcon wings. It sits in the same district as the Louvre, so the two can be paired in a day, but opening hours and ticket arrangements change, so check the museum's own site before you plan the day around it.

The Corniche, back on the main island #4
Abu Dhabi city; a drive from Saadiyat A free evening walk after the museum

The Corniche, back on the main island

If you finish the Louvre in the afternoon, the Corniche promenade in the city is the free follow-up: a long seafront walk with the skyline across the water. It is also on our shared city tour, so a visit on your own is a way to see it again without paying for it.

The Yas parks by free shuttle #5
Yas Island, a separate island with theme parks Families who stay on Saadiyat and want a park day

The Yas parks by free shuttle

The Yas parks list free return buses for ticket holders from Dubai and from Saadiyat Island to Yas Waterworld, Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World. That makes a stay on Saadiyat a workable base for a park day and a museum day, though each of the parks is a full day on its own.

Saadiyat Island in one minute

Saadiyat is a museum island with a beach, a short drive off central Abu Dhabi. The Louvre Abu Dhabi, with its lattice dome, is the anchor: adult tickets are from about AED 65, it is closed on Mondays, and 2-3 hours is a good visit. The beach is the second draw, and the cultural district around the Louvre has more museums. The island has hotels and beach clubs but no city centre, so you come for a purpose rather than to wander.

From Dubai it is a half day on the road. Allow 1.5-2 hours each way by taxi from Dubai Marina or Downtown, which makes a Saadiyat-only day trip long for what it gives. It works well as part of a two-day Abu Dhabi stay, or as a Tuesday-to-Sunday day when the Louvre is open and you leave Dubai before 8:00 AM. Figures here come from the museum's listing and are rounded; check the official site for the price and hours on your date.

Louvre Abu Dhabi: hours, price and how long

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is a universal museum, not a copy of the Paris one: it puts objects from different cultures side by side to show how people in different places asked the same questions. The building is as much of the attraction as the collection, so the visit works for people who are not art specialists.

Our separate Louvre Abu Dhabi guide has the visit in more detail. If the Louvre is the whole point, a Friday or Saturday gives the longest opening hours, but also the biggest crowds.

The beaches, and the turtle season

Saadiyat's beaches are some of the best near Abu Dhabi: long stretches of pale sand and clear shallow water, with one public beach and a number of hotel beach clubs. The public beach charges a modest entry fee, and its opening hours and fees have changed over the years, so check the current figure before you go. The beach clubs sell day passes, with prices that vary widely by club and rise at weekends, so check a few before you commit.

  • Best months: November to April, when the sun is warm and the sea is comfortable. From May to September it is hot and the sea is warm; go early or late and expect shade and cold drinks to matter more than the swim.
  • Turtles: roughly April to July, hawksbill turtles nest on the island's beaches at night. Parts of the sand may be roped off during the season; keep to the marked areas, keep dogs and lights away, and never approach a turtle or its eggs.
  • What to bring: swimwear, sunscreen, a hat and water. Cover up when you leave the sand: the UAE expects modest dress away from the beach and pool.
  • Food: the hotels and beach clubs have restaurants; prices are resort prices, so a packed snack helps.

The cultural district beyond the Louvre

The Saadiyat Cultural District is a cluster of large museums designed by international architects. The Louvre is the long-established one. For the others, opening status and ticket arrangements change, so the table says what each one is and leaves the opening details to the official sites. As of 29 October 2026, the Department of Culture and Tourism has announced 11 December 2026 as the date for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi; dates for museums shift, so confirm before you plan around it.

A realistic day is one big museum and the beach, not three museums. If you only choose one, choose the Louvre; the building alone justifies the trip. The wider list of museums is in best museums in Dubai for the Dubai side.

Getting to Saadiyat from Dubai

There is no direct public transport from Dubai to the island, so the options are a taxi, a hire car, a bus plus a taxi, or the Etihad Rail train plus a taxi. Time and cost depend on where you start in Dubai and on traffic, especially on Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 at rush hour.

A day on Saadiyat, and where our Abu Dhabi tour fits

A plan that works from Dubai on a Tuesday to Sunday: leave by 7:30 AM, arrive at the Louvre when it opens at 10:00, spend 2-3 hours inside, have lunch in the museum or at one of the island's cafes, then take the beach from mid-afternoon (in winter) until the light goes, and be back on the E11 before the evening rush. In summer, swap the beach for a second museum or an early return, because the afternoon heat is the hard part.

Our Abu Dhabi city tour from $45 per person is a separate day: the Grand Mosque, the BAPS Mandir, the Corniche and Emirates Palace, Heritage Village and a Ferrari World photo stop, nine hours with 8:00 AM hotel pickup. Saadiyat is not on that loop, and the museum alone would take a third of it. The private car for up to 7 at $245 has a flexible schedule, so if the Louvre is what you want, ask us on WhatsApp and we will say plainly what fits. Abu Dhabi in one day from Dubai shows the standard loop.

If you want Dubai's own heritage the day before or after, the Old Dubai walking tour is from $35 and the full-day desert safari from $45. For the next stop on the capital's list, see Qasr Al Watan and Emirates Palace.

FAQ

How much is the Louvre Abu Dhabi?

Adult tickets are from about AED 65, and the museum lists under-18s and some concessions as free. Prices change, so check the official site for your date. It is closed on Mondays, and 2-3 hours is a good visit.

Is Saadiyat Island worth a day trip from Dubai?

Yes for the Louvre, if you leave early and accept 1.5-2 hours each way. It works best as a Tuesday-to-Sunday day with the museum in the morning and the beach in the afternoon in winter. If you have only one day in Abu Dhabi, the capital's Grand Mosque loop covers more.

When is the Louvre Abu Dhabi open?

10:00 AM to 6:30 PM Tuesday to Thursday and 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM Friday to Sunday, with last entry about 30 minutes before closing, and closed on Mondays. Hours can change, so check before travelling.

When is the best time for the Saadiyat beaches?

November to April, when the sun is warm and the sea is comfortable. In summer the beach works only early or late in the day. Roughly April to July, hawksbill turtles nest on the beaches at night, and parts of the sand may be roped off.

Can you get to Saadiyat Island from Dubai by bus?

Not directly. The E100 and E101 buses cost about AED 25 on a Nol card and end at the Abu Dhabi bus station, so you need a taxi for the last leg, which adds about an hour to the journey. A taxi from Dubai is the simplest option, at a similar or slightly higher fare than the AED 250-350 for Yas Island.

Does the Abu Dhabi city tour go to Saadiyat Island?

No. The shared tour from $45 covers the Grand Mosque, the BAPS Mandir, the Corniche and Emirates Palace, Heritage Village and Yas Island in nine hours. A Louvre visit needs 2-3 hours of its own, so ask us on WhatsApp about the private car at $245 for up to 7 people, which has a flexible schedule.

Which museums are on Saadiyat Island?

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is the established one. The cultural district also includes the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has an announced opening date of 11 December 2026. Check each museum's own site for what is open on your day.
