Dubai in April is where winter ends: highs of about 32-37°C and rising, nights of 20-24°C, and a sea of 25-27°C that is finally warm for swimming. Mornings and evenings stay pleasant, and by midday it is hot. Hotel rates usually start to soften, Global Village and Miracle Garden approach the end of their season, and the best plans are early starts, water in the afternoon and a desert camp after sunset. This guide starts with the full-day desert safari from $45.

Five plans that work in April
#1
The desert safari after the heat
April afternoons on the dunes are warm, so the draw is the evening: sunset at about 6:35-6:50 PM, a camel ride as the desert turns gold, then a BBQ dinner and the fire show in air-conditioned tents. It is from $45, or $65 with the 30-minute quad bike, with no prepayment. Drink the unlimited water, and wear a hat and sunscreen.
#2
The shared yacht hour
A moving yacht is one of the best ways to spend a hot afternoon, because the breeze does the cooling and the Marina towers and Ain Dubai fill the view. The hour is from $32 per person, with full prepayment, and the check-in at Level P of Al Majara Tower is 20 minutes before departure. The yacht leaves strictly on time.
#3
The 90-minute speedboat, last departure 5 PM
An open speedboat shared with up to 22 guests runs the postcard loop, with stops at JBR, Ain Dubai, Atlantis and the Burj Al Arab. The 5 PM departure, the last of the day, is $60 and sails into the softer late-afternoon light; the other departures are from $45. Expect a few splashes and wear flat shoes.
#4
Beach mornings
At 25-27°C the sea is warm enough to enjoy, and morning is the time for it, before the sun is high and the sand heats up. Public beaches have lifeguards, and the sun burns fast in April, so use high-SPF sunscreen and shade. Late afternoon is also pleasant. Midday on open sand is not.
#5
Indoor middays: the Dubai Mall and the Aquarium
From mid-April, midday outdoors is for the short walk between air-conditioned places. The Dubai Mall, with its aquarium viewing panel, the waterfall and its shops, is the classic way to spend those hours, and it connects to the Burj Khalifa and the Fountain. Plan the outdoor parts of the day around it.
Dubai in April: the short answer
April is the month the heat arrives, but it is still a good month to visit if you plan around it. Days run at about 32-37°C and nights at 20-24°C, with sunset at about 6:35-6:50 PM. Mornings and evenings are pleasant, and the sea is at about 25-27°C, the first month it is properly warm. By midday the sun is strong and the humidity starts to rise.
The compensation is price and space. Hotels usually start to ease through April, queues are shorter than in the peak months, and there is no public holiday this season: Eid al-Fitr is expected in March and Eid al-Adha in mid-May. If you can start early, rest at midday and go out again after 4 PM, April works well. If you need to be outdoors at noon, choose a month from November to March; the month-by-month guide compares them.
Against its neighbours: March is cooler by 4-5°C and has a colder sea; May reaches 38-45°C by day, which is a different trip. April is the compromise, and the question is whether you will keep to the early-start rule. If you will, the 20-24°C nights and the warm sea make it one of the nicest months to be on the coast.
April weather and sea temperature
These are typical ranges, not forecasts. April changes fast, and the last week is hotter than the first.
| What | April (typical) | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Daytime high | About 32-37°C, hotter late in the month | Hot by midday; the sun burns in less than an hour |
| Night low | About 20-24°C | Warm nights; no jacket outdoors, though air-conditioning is cold |
| Sea | About 25-27°C | Warm enough for a proper swim; the best of the spring |
| Sunrise and sunset | About 6:10 to 5:45 AM and 6:35-6:50 PM | Early mornings are cool and bright |
| Humidity | Rising through the month | Sticky near the sea by late April |
| Rain | Rare; occasionally a thunderstorm | A storm can flood roads for a day or two, as in recent spring seasons; check the forecast |
Approximate typical ranges. UV is very high from April; use high-SPF sunscreen.
How to plan an April day around the heat
In April a day has three parts, and each part has a job. The rule is simple: start early, shelter in the middle and finish late.
The risk in April is the sun, not the rain. Drink water before you feel thirsty, wear a hat, take shade breaks and keep children out of the midday sun. If someone feels dizzy, sick or unusually tired, move to air-conditioning at once, cool down and ask your hotel to call a doctor if it does not pass. Never leave a child or a pet in a parked car.
| Time of day | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Up to about 10 AM | Sightseeing, the beach, the Miracle Garden at opening, the balloon | The air is still mild and the light is good |
| 10 AM to 4 PM | Mall, aquarium, museum, hotel pool, a moving boat | Open air is hot; air-conditioning and sea breeze work |
| 4 PM to sunset | Beach, Marina Walk, Burj Park, the safari pickup | The heat falls and the light turns gold |
| After sunset | The desert camp, Global Village, the Fountain, dinner outside | Warm evenings, comfortable on a terrace |
Sunset is about 6:35-6:50 PM; the Fountain's evening shows start at 6:00 PM.
For a Burj Khalifa visit, a slot of about 5:30-6:00 PM catches the daylight and the sunset, and the best time to visit Burj Khalifa guide has the slot for every month. If the heat is the main worry, Dubai in summer has a longer playbook for the hottest months, and most of it already applies from late April.
Hotel deals, crowds and the calendar
April is a shoulder month. Hotel rates usually start to fall through April and fall further in May, so it is one of the better months for a deal; compare dates, because early April can still carry the European Easter holiday crowds. Attractions are quieter than in winter, and taxis are easier to find.
The things to weigh against the saving are the heat and the shorter window of the day when outdoor sights are comfortable. If you are travelling with young children or older relatives, early and late slots matter more than the room rate. Ask your hotel about shaded pool areas, since that is where the afternoon goes.

Prices are per person except the private Abu Dhabi car.
Place the balloon first if you want it, early in the trip, then the shared yacht hour or the speedboat. The safari and the Abu Dhabi day are agreed on WhatsApp with no prepayment, so they go in last.
On the safari, the 30-45 minute dune session and the sandboarding happen in an air-conditioned 4x4 and short bursts on the sand, with unlimited chilled water, soft drinks, tea and Arabic coffee on the programme. The camel ride comes as the desert turns gold, and dinner is in air-conditioned tents. It is a hot-weather day done sensibly, provided you carry a hat and drink.
The sea, the beach and water sports in April
At about 25-27°C the sea is the warmest it has been since the autumn, and April is the first month a swim is a pleasure rather than a challenge. Morning is best on a public beach, before the sun is high; late afternoon is also good. Our best beaches in Dubai guide lists JBR, Kite Beach, Sunset Beach and the others.
The water-sport options start from Umm Suqeim harbour on Jumeirah: jet ski from $79 per jet ski, flyboard from $89, parasailing from $99. The warm sea makes falling in welcome. There is no hotel pickup, you arrive 20 minutes early with an original passport or Emirates ID, and our water sports guides compare them.
What to pack for April, and who it suits
Pack for heat and sun, with one layer for air-conditioned rooms.
- Light, loose clothes in cotton or linen for the day.
- A hat, sunglasses and high-SPF sunscreen, reapplied every two hours.
- A refillable water bottle; drink often, even if you do not feel thirsty.
- Swimwear and a towel for the beach and the pool.
- A light cardigan or shawl for malls, taxis and restaurants, which are cold.
- Modest clothes for Abu Dhabi: the Grand Mosque code is mandatory, with loose clothing covering ankles and wrists plus a headscarf for women, shoulders and knees covered for men.
April suits visitors who want a beach and a deal without the worst of the summer heat: couples, beach-lovers and anyone happy with an early start. Skip it with small children or older relatives if you cannot avoid the midday hours, and choose March for cooler days or May if the price is the point.
