Four ways to plan a waterpark day

Wild Wadi: the compact day by the Burj Al Arab #1
Jumeirah Road, Umm Suqeim; open 10 AM-6 PM Under-eights, mixed ages, half a day, a lower bill

Wild Wadi: the compact day by the Burj Al Arab

Wild Wadi counts 30+ rides in a park small enough to cover without exhausting anyone. Jumeirah Sceirah is the free-fall headliner at about 80 km/h, Breaker's Bay is a wave pool with 1.5 m waves, and Juha's Dhow and Lagoon and Tantrum Alley handle the small children. Adults start from about AED 269.

Aquaventure: the full day at Atlantis #2
Atlantis, The Palm, Palm Jumeirah Teenagers, thrill-seekers, children over 1.2 m, hotel guests

Aquaventure: the full day at Atlantis

Aquaventure advertises more than 100 slides and attractions, from the Leap of Faith drop through a shark lagoon to the Tower of Neptune slides and a river ride. It is the one to choose when the group is tall enough for the big slides and wants all day. Adults start from about AED 350.

Wild Wadi plus a jet ski to the Burj Al Arab #3
Same stretch of Jumeirah coast; harbour base 20 minutes early Families with teenagers and a spare late afternoon

Wild Wadi plus a jet ski to the Burj Al Arab

End a Wild Wadi morning with the Burj Al Arab seen from sea level. Our jet ski ride is 30 minutes from the Umm Suqeim harbour, from $79 per jet ski, and two people share one at no extra charge. Drivers must be 16 or older and passengers 5 or older.

Aquaventure plus The Lost Chambers #4
Same Atlantis resort, a few minutes apart A rest hour in the air-conditioning after the slides

Aquaventure plus The Lost Chambers

The Lost Chambers aquarium is inside the Atlantis hotel, so a hot afternoon can end with fish instead of more queues. Hotel guests usually get both included, while other visitors should check whether a combined ticket is on offer for their date before paying for each separately.

Aquaventure or Wild Wadi: the short answer

Choose Aquaventure for a full day with older children, teenagers and anyone chasing the biggest slides. Choose Wild Wadi for younger children, a half day or a smaller bill. Aquaventure sits at Atlantis, The Palm, and advertises more than 100 slides and attractions. Wild Wadi sits on the Jumeirah coast next to the Burj Al Arab and has 30+ rides.

On price, expect adult tickets from about AED 350 at Aquaventure and from about AED 269 at Wild Wadi for visitors who do not live in the UAE. Both charge less for smaller children, but the line differs: 1.2 m at Aquaventure, 1.1 m at Wild Wadi. Prices move with the date, so check the official sites before you buy. The rest of this guide is built on those two numbers, the height of your children and how long you want to stay. If you have not chosen between waterparks at all, the ranking of Dubai's water parks puts the options in order.

Side by side: size, price and setting

The two parks are different in kind, not just in size. Aquaventure is a resort attraction, with a beach, a hotel and an aquarium around it. Wild Wadi is a self-contained park that fits into a morning or an afternoon.

Which one suits which family

Start with the height of your shortest child and the age of your oldest, because the answer usually falls out of those two.

  • Toddlers and under-fives: Wild Wadi. Juha's Dhow and Lagoon and Tantrum Alley are built for small children, and the park is compact enough to carry a tired four-year-old back to the towels. Aquaventure has its own children's zone, Splashers, but check its height rule for your child first.
  • Ages 6 to 10: it depends on height. Under 1.2 m, most of Aquaventure's big slides are out of reach, so the cheaper and easier Wild Wadi is the safer bet.
  • Teenagers: Aquaventure, for the sheer number of big slides. If time or money is short, Wild Wadi's Jumeirah Sceirah is the one ride to try.
  • Mixed ages: Wild Wadi. It is small enough to split up for an hour and meet at the wave pool, which is hard to do in a park that takes a full day to walk.
  • Adults without children: Aquaventure for the slides and the beach; Wild Wadi for a shorter afternoon and a lower ticket.
  • Hotel guests: Atlantis guests usually have Aquaventure included, and some Jumeirah hotels include Wild Wadi, so check your room rate before buying anything.

Height rules, ages and what to check at the gate

Aquaventure sells tickets by height, not age: 1.2 m and over pays the adult fare. Most of the major thrill slides also need 1.2 m, so a tall five-year-old pays the adult fare while a short ten-year-old may be limited to the family slides. Children under 3 enter free, and children under 13 need to be with an adult.

Wild Wadi uses 1.1 m as the ticket line, and its official page sets no overall minimum, but each ride has its own rule posted at the entrance. Ask at the gate before a child queues for twenty minutes, and read the warnings for pregnancy, back, neck and heart conditions at the ride itself.

For both parks, bring proper swimwear, a towel and sunscreen, and keep valuables in a locker. Lockers, towels and food are normally extra, so budget for them.

What a family of four pays

Adult tickets are only part of the picture. This table uses the rounded prices above for two adults and two children, before lockers, towels, food and transport.

Family of fourAquaventureWild Wadi
2 adults + 2 children under 1.1 mAbout AED 1,300About AED 980
2 adults + 2 children of 1.2 m or moreAbout AED 1,400About AED 1,080

Rounded estimate from the adult and child prices quoted above; the official sites show the exact fare for your date.

Wild Wadi comes out roughly AED 300 cheaper for the same family. That gap pays for lunch, lockers and a taxi, and for many families it is also the difference between a day and a half day. If your children are all over 1.2 m and want the big slides, the extra spend at Aquaventure buys real extra rides.

Heat, season and the best day to go

Both parks are outdoors, so the weather decides the day. From November to March the water and the air are comfortable, mornings can feel cool, and wind on wet skin makes it feel colder than the thermometer says, so bring a towel and a light layer. Our month-by-month guide has the temperatures.

From May to September the sun is the problem, not the water. Arrive at opening, drink more than you think you need, wear sunscreen and a rash vest, and take a long break in the shade or indoors in the middle of the day. Wild Wadi's 10 AM opening makes that easy. In Aquaventure's case, the air-conditioned aquarium next door is the sensible break, which is one reason to look at The Lost Chambers on the same day. More ideas for the hottest months are in what to do in Dubai in summer.

Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays are busiest at both parks. A weekday visit means shorter queues for the big slides.

Getting there

Neither park has a Metro station at the door, but the Palm is easier to reach on public transport than Jumeirah.

  • Aquaventure: take the Red Line to DMCC or Sobha Realty, the tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop and the monorail up the trunk to Atlantis, about 15 minutes. A taxi from the Marina is usually the quicker choice with children and bags. The monorail and tram guide has the steps, and the Palm Jumeirah area guide covers the island.
  • Wild Wadi: it is on Jumeirah Road, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, and the nearest practical Metro stop is Mall of the Emirates, followed by a short taxi. A taxi from Downtown or the Marina is simplest. The Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab guide shows the photo spots and beaches around it.

Add a jet ski ride to a Wild Wadi day

Wild Wadi is on the same stretch of Jumeirah coast as our jet ski base at the Umm Suqeim fishing harbour, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. That makes a pairing easy: waterpark in the morning, lunch, and the jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab in the late afternoon.

The 30-minute ride is from $79 per jet ski, and two people share one at no extra cost. Drivers must be 16 or older and passengers at least 5, so a teenager can drive with a younger child behind. You need an original passport or Emirates ID, not a copy, and you meet at the harbour 20 minutes before your slot; there is no hotel pickup. Full prepayment confirms the slot, and we agree the time on WhatsApp. The jet ski guide has the route and the rules.

For a group of four with teenagers, the tubing donut ride from $149 per ride suits riders aged 12 and over. For the full list of ages and weight limits, see water sports age and safety rules. One caution: after a full waterpark day, children are often too tired for a second activity, so keep the ride for a day when the park visit is a short one.

FAQ

Which is cheaper, Aquaventure or Wild Wadi?

Wild Wadi. Adult tickets start from about AED 269 there, against about AED 350 at Aquaventure, and the child fare is about AED 220 against about AED 300. For two adults and two small children that is roughly AED 980 against AED 1,300 before lockers and food. Prices change by date, so check the official sites.

Which waterpark is better for toddlers?

Wild Wadi for most under-fives. It is compact, has two areas built for small children (Juha's Dhow and Lagoon and Tantrum Alley) and its ticket line is 1.1 m. Aquaventure has a children's zone too, but the park is far bigger and many of its slides need 1.2 m.

Which has the bigger slides?

Aquaventure, which advertises more than 100 slides and attractions, including the Leap of Faith drop through a shark lagoon. Wild Wadi's headline ride is Jumeirah Sceirah, a free fall at about 80 km/h, and it has 30+ rides in total.

Can we do both in one trip?

Yes, on separate days. Each park is a day or half a day of effort, and they are on opposite sides of the city's coast, so a Palm day and a Jumeirah day work better than trying to combine them.

Is the Burj Al Arab visible from Wild Wadi?

Yes, the park is next to it, so the hotel is part of the view. For the tower from sea level, our 30-minute jet ski ride to the Burj Al Arab starts from $79 per jet ski and leaves from the Umm Suqeim harbour nearby.

Do hotel guests get waterpark entry included?

Often. Atlantis guests usually have Aquaventure included, and some Jumeirah hotels include Wild Wadi, but it depends on the hotel and the rate. Confirm with the hotel before you pay for tickets.

Are the parks open all year?

Both are normally open through the year, but days and hours can change by season and for maintenance. Wild Wadi's page shows 10 AM to 6 PM daily. Check the official calendar for your date, especially in winter.
