24-hour tickets about AED 200-330 for an adultTwo loops, Red and Blue; buses every 30-40 minutes, about 9 AM-5 PMFor comparison: Metro AED 3-7.5 a trip, taxi minimum about AED 12
Burj Khalifa Observation Deck — From $55 per person

A Dubai hop-on hop-off bus ticket costs roughly AED 200-330 for 24 hours, depending on the operator and where you buy it, and buses run on two loops, Red (Old Dubai) and Blue (the beach, Marina and Palm), about every 30-40 minutes between 9 AM and 5 PM. It is worth it for a first-day orientation with commentary, and poor value for a tight budget or a short stay. This guide compares it with the Metro and a taxi.

What the two loops, the hub and the night tour give you

Red route: Deira, the Creek and Old Dubai #1
Spice Souk, Al Shindagha Museum, Dubai Creek, Heritage Village A first look at the old city without walking in the heat

Red route: Deira, the Creek and Old Dubai

The Red loop covers the historic side of town: the Creek, the museum district at Al Shindagha and the souks of Deira, with stop lists that differ a little between operators. It gives you the layout and the commentary, but not the street-level feel. For that, the Creek abra at AED 1 and a walk through Al Fahidi do more.

Blue route: the beach, the Marina and the Palm #2
JBR, Dubai Marina, Atlantis The Palm, Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Mall of the Emirates Reaching the coast, which the Metro does not

Blue route: the beach, the Marina and the Palm

The Blue loop is the stronger case for the bus, because it links places the Red Line does not: the Palm, the Jumeirah beaches and the Souk Madinat area. It passes the Ain Dubai wheel, a landmark you can look at but not ride. Summer heat makes the open top deck hard work at midday, so sit inside if the bus has a cooled lower deck.

The hub opposite The Dubai Mall #3
Zabeel Bus parking, across from the mall's main entrance Starting the loops and joining the Burj Khalifa visit

The hub opposite The Dubai Mall

Both loops of one operator leave from the bus parking opposite the main entrance of The Dubai Mall, which makes the mall the natural starting point. The Metro station is a 10-15 minute walk along the air-conditioned Metro Link bridge. Start here mid-morning, and you can add At the Top on the same day.

The evening night tour #4
One loop a day around 6 PM, about 2 hours, with six pick-up points Seeing the lit skyline from a seat

The evening night tour

One operator runs a separate night tour that is not a hop-on hop-off ticket: a single two-hour loop leaving the mall hub at 6 PM, with pick-up stops as far as Mall of the Emirates. As the day loops stop at about 5 PM, it is the only bus way to see Dubai lit. It costs extra, so check the price.

Hatta's real hop-on hop-off: AED 2 a stop #5
RTA route H04, a circular loop in Hatta A day in the mountains on public transport

Hatta's real hop-on hop-off: AED 2 a stop

Unlike the city sightseeing buses, RTA's Hatta Hop on Hop off (H04) is a cheap public loop at AED 2 per stop, every 30 minutes from 7 AM to 9 PM, passing the Wadi Hub, Hatta Hill Park, Hatta Dam and the Heritage Village. The Hatta Express (H02) from the Dubai Mall Bus Station costs AED 25 a journey.

Hop-on hop-off bus in Dubai: the short answer

Two main operators sell hop-on hop-off tickets in Dubai, and both run a Red loop through Deira and the Creek and a Blue loop along the coast. A 24-hour adult ticket costs roughly AED 200-330, depending on the operator and the booking channel, and buses come every 30-40 minutes between about 9 AM and 5 PM. Ticket prices change, so check the operator's own site before you pay.

Is it worth it? For a first morning, an older relative or a family that wants the layout explained, yes. For a budget traveller or a short stay, no: a day on the Metro costs about AED 20-25, and the Metro and a guided walk teach you more per dirham. The sections below show what each loop covers, the real timings and a day plan that makes the ticket pay.

The two routes: Red and Blue

The stop lists differ between the two operators, and listings we checked disagreed on the number of stops, from about 18 to 24 across both loops, so use the operator's own map when you book. The outline is the same.

LoopWhat it coversExamples of stopsBest for
Red (city or Old Dubai)Deira, the Creek, the old museum district and DowntownSpice Souk, Al Shindagha Museum, Dubai Creek, Heritage Village, Burj KhalifaThe history of the city, with commentary
Blue (beach)The coast, JBR, the Marina and the PalmJBR, Dubai Marina, Atlantis The Palm, Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Mall of the EmiratesReaching places the Metro does not
Night tour (one operator)A single evening loop of about 2 hoursDubai Mall hub, then six pick-up pointsThe lit city, with no walking

Based on the operators' own listings; stops and routes change, so check the current map.

Both loops of the same operator start at the Zabeel Bus parking opposite the main entrance to The Dubai Mall. Ain Dubai appears on the Blue route as a landmark to look at from the road; it is not something to ride. The Dubai Mall and the tower are covered in the Downtown area guide, and the coast in the Palm Jumeirah guide.

Tickets, times and what you pay for

The ticket is a 24-hour pass for unlimited hopping on and off, usually with audio commentary through headphones. The listings we checked show an adult 24-hour ticket from about US$55 on one operator's own page and AED 315 in a listing for another, with children cheaper. That is the AED 200-330 range above.

  • Hours: buses run from about 9 AM to 5 PM (one listing gives a first departure of 10 AM), every 30-40 minutes depending on the operator.
  • Last bus: around 5 PM, which is before sunset in winter, so the bus does not show the skyline at golden hour.
  • Seasons: hours and routes change in Ramadan, on public holidays and in bad weather; check the operator.
  • Where to buy: online or at the hub; reseller prices differ, and some operators discount online bookings.

Our advice: do not buy a ticket until you know which loop you want, and check the first and last departures against your own plans. An open upper deck is pleasant from November to April, and hard work between June and September.

Hop-on hop-off vs Metro vs taxi: what you pay and what you see

The sensible question is not whether the bus is cheap but what the same day costs another way. The Metro is the benchmark: AED 3, 5 or 7.5 a trip on a Silver Nol card, with a one-day pass quoted at AED 22 in Etihad Rail's fare information.

OptionCost (about)What you getWeak point
Hop-on hop-off, 24 hoursAED 200-330 per adultTwo loops, commentary, stops at the main sightsBuses every 30-40 minutes, 9 AM-5 PM only

Old Dubai guided walkFrom $35 (3-4 hours)Al Fahidi, Al Seef, the abra, the souksFixed start; mostly outdoors

Approximate figures; check live prices before you book.

Read the Metro column as the question: could you see the same places for a tenth of the price? In Downtown, Old Dubai and the Marina, yes. On the Palm and the Jumeirah beaches, only with a taxi or a bus. Our Metro guide and taxi guide cover the alternatives in detail.

Is it worth it? Who should buy and who should skip

Buy the ticket if you arrive with a free day and little idea of the layout, if someone in your group struggles with long walks, or if you want to reach the Palm, Souk Madinat and the beach side without a string of taxis. The commentary also does what a map does not. Skip it if you have only two days, if the plan is the desert or a beach day, or if your budget is tight.

The weak points are real. Buses every 30-40 minutes mean a missed bus costs you that long again, traffic on the Blue loop slows the whole circuit, and the day stops at 5 PM. A full loop takes a good part of a morning or afternoon, so one ticket rarely covers both loops plus time at the stops; ask the operator for loop times before you buy. For a short stay the better plan is two things well: one orientation ride, then your own time.

How to make the ticket pay: a one-day plan

Start at the Zabeel parking hub around 9:30 AM and ride the Blue loop in the cooler hours, hopping off at the Marina or the beach for a walk and a coffee. Take the Red loop in the afternoon, then finish at the Creek. You are unlikely to do all of it, so choose the stops you care about at the start.

The tower is the natural add-on. The hub sits across from The Dubai Mall, where the Burj Khalifa ticket from $55 starts: a timed entry, with no time limit on Levels 124 and 125, at the At the Top entrance on the lower ground floor. A late-afternoon slot lets you ride the bus in the morning and see the city from above at sunset; our best time to visit Burj Khalifa says which slot to ask for.

For the water side, the bus passes the Marina only on the road. The 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 shows the skyline, JBR and Bluewaters from the water, and meets at the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower. For the old city on foot, the Old Dubai walking tour from $35 adds a guide, the abra and the souks, which the Red loop cannot give you. If you want to plan the days around all of these, the 3-day itinerary shows how.

FAQ

How much is the hop-on hop-off bus in Dubai?

Roughly AED 200-330 for a 24-hour adult ticket, depending on the operator and the booking channel; children cost less. One operator's own page shows from about US$55, and another's is listed at AED 315. Prices change, so check the operator's site before you pay.

How often do the hop-on hop-off buses run?

Every 30-40 minutes depending on the operator, between about 9 AM and 5 PM, with one listing giving a 10 AM first departure. The last bus leaves around 5 PM, so you cannot use it for a sunset or an evening out, apart from one operator's separate night tour.

Where do the hop-on hop-off buses start?

One operator's loops leave from the Zabeel Bus parking opposite the main entrance of The Dubai Mall in Downtown. The Metro station Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is about a 10-15 minute walk from the mall along the air-conditioned bridge. Check your operator's map for the exact pick-up and stop list.

Is the hop-on hop-off bus worth it in Dubai?

For a first-day orientation with commentary, for visitors who cannot walk far, and for reaching the Palm and the beach side, yes. For a budget traveller or a stay of two days or less, the Metro at AED 3-7.5 a trip plus a guided walk or a taxi gives better value.

Does the hop-on hop-off bus go to the Palm and Atlantis?

The Blue route does, along with JBR, the Marina and Souk Madinat Jumeirah, according to the operators' listings. The Metro does not reach the Palm, so this is the strongest reason to take the bus. Stop lists differ between operators and change, so check the map when you book.

Does the bus go to Burj Khalifa?

Yes, the loops start from the hub opposite The Dubai Mall, and the mall is the entrance to At the Top and the Burj Khalifa. Our Burj Khalifa ticket is a timed entry from $55, so book a slot that fits the bus timetable. Both are in Downtown, so you can combine them.

Is there a cheaper hop-on hop-off bus in Dubai?

In Hatta, RTA's H04 Hop on Hop off loop costs AED 2 per stop and runs every 30 minutes from 7 AM to 9 PM. In the city itself, the Metro at AED 3-7.5 a trip, or the RTA city buses on the same zone fares, are the cheap options; the sightseeing buses are a paid product.
