From Dubai airport to Business Bay, a taxi takes 15-25 minutes and costs about AED 40-55; the Metro Red Line takes about 25-30 minutes for AED 5-7.5, with no change. Business Bay is about 12-15 km from DXB and one Metro stop beyond Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall. This guide compares the taxi, the app car and the train, says which terminals have a station, covers the walk to your hotel and night arrivals, and ends with the tower tickets.

Five ways from DXB to Business Bay
#1
Taxi from the airport rank
Follow the taxi signs from arrivals in any terminal. The meter starts at about AED 25 from the airport rank, and the route crosses the Creek, so a Salik toll of AED 4-6 is normally added. You arrive at the hotel door, which is why most people with suitcases choose it.
#2
Metro Red Line to Business Bay
The Red Line runs from both terminals straight to Business Bay with no change, and trains come every 3-7 minutes. The walk at the far end is the catch. In rush hour (7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM) the train beats the taxi, but with two suitcases you will feel every metre.
#3
Careem or Uber
The app fixes the fare before the car arrives, usually near the taxi price or slightly above, and sends you to a marked pickup point at the airport. It helps when your hotel is hard to explain, since the pin does the talking. Install the app before you fly and check that your SIM or Wi-Fi works.
#4
Hotel or private transfer
Many Business Bay hotels will send a car for a fee, and the price is fixed before you fly. It costs more than a taxi, so ask for the quote and compare it. A driver with a name board at arrivals is the easiest start after a long flight, particularly if you land after midnight.
#5
Metro plus a short taxi
Business Bay is long, and some hotels are 15-20 minutes on foot from the station. The Metro plus a short hop is still cheaper than a taxi from the airport and avoids the airport flag fall. Take the taxi in summer, when the walk with a suitcase is the hardest part of the journey.
Dubai airport to Business Bay: the short answer
With luggage, take a taxi: 15-25 minutes and about AED 40-55 from the rank. The airport is about 12-15 km from Business Bay, and the taxi drops you at the hotel door. In rush hour, from 7 to 9:30 AM and 5 to 8 PM, the same ride can take 40 minutes.
With one bag in daylight, take the Metro. The Red Line goes from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 to Business Bay station without a change, in about 25-30 minutes for AED 5-7.5 on a Nol card. Business Bay is the stop after Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, so the train also drops you one stop from the tower. Terminal 2 has no Metro station of its own; from there the taxi is the simple choice.
Every option from DXB to Business Bay, compared
Times are typical for a normal day. The meter also runs on time in traffic, and the Metro fare depends on the zones you cross, so check the RTA S'hail app or the machines before you pay.
| Option | Time | Cost (about) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| RTA taxi from the rank | 15-25 min, up to 40 in rush hour | AED 40-55 | Luggage, families, night arrivals |
| Careem or Uber | 15-25 min plus the pickup walk | Similar to the taxi, fixed in the app | A hotel that is hard to explain |
| Metro Red Line, no change | 25-30 min | AED 5-7.5 | One bag, daytime, the cheapest way |
| Metro plus a short taxi | 35-45 min | AED 17-27 | Hotels away from the station |
| Hotel or private transfer | 15-25 min | Quoted in advance; dearer than a taxi | Late flights, 3 or more people |
Approximate fares and times; check the live fare in the app or on the machine.
By taxi: rank, meter and the Creek crossing
At every DXB terminal the taxi rank is outside arrivals, the queue moves quickly and every cab takes cards. The meter starts at about AED 25 at the airport rank, against about AED 5 on the street, which is why a short ride to Business Bay is not much cheaper than a long one to Downtown. The route crosses the Creek, so a Salik toll of AED 4-6 is normally added to the fare.
Tell the driver the name of the hotel, not just the district, since Business Bay is a large area with many towers and one-way streets. Have the address or the pin on your phone, and ask for the entrance if the hotel has two. The Dubai taxi and Careem guide has the fares, the surcharges and the apps in full.
By Metro: Terminal 1 or 3 to Business Bay, step by step
The Metro is the best-value transfer in Dubai when you travel light, because it is a single line with no change. The steps:
- Follow the Metro signs from arrivals at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 to the station inside the terminal.
- Buy a Silver Nol card at the ticket office or a machine, about AED 25 with AED 19 of credit, which covers this trip and several more.
- Take the Red Line towards the Marina side, away from Centrepoint. The platform signs name the end of the line.
- Ride for about 25-30 minutes and get off at Business Bay, the stop after Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall. Tap out at the gate.
- Leave by the exit nearest your hotel; the station signs and your map app show which exit that is.
Trains run about every 3-7 minutes from around 5 AM until midnight or 1 AM, with a later start on Sundays, so a 3 AM arrival is a taxi arrival. The Dubai Metro guide for tourists covers Nol cards, Gold Class and the women-and-children carriage.
From Business Bay station to your hotel
The station sits on the Sheikh Zayed Road side of the district, and the hotels spread along the canal behind it. Some are a 5-10 minute walk away; others are 15-20 minutes. The walk is pleasant in winter and punishing in summer, when 40 degrees and a suitcase make a taxi for the last kilometre good value at about AED 12-20.
Before you set off, check the hotel's check-in time, since early arrivals often wait for a room; most hotels will hold your bags, and a first walk by the canal costs nothing. In the evening the Dubai Water Canal is the reason to be here: the promenade, the bridges and the waterfall lit at dusk. The Business Bay and Dubai Canal guide has the walks, and Downtown versus Business Bay explains why many visitors pay less here for the same skyline.
Night arrivals and rush hour
If your flight lands after about midnight and before about 5 AM, the Metro is closed and the taxi is the plan. The rank runs round the clock, and the fare is the same meter. Sunday morning flights also catch people out, since the Metro starts later that day.
At rush hour the picture reverses: the road along Sheikh Zayed Road and the Creek crossings back up, while the train keeps its timetable. If you land at 8 AM on a weekday with one bag, the Metro is faster than the taxi. If you land at 6 PM with two, take the taxi and ask the driver to avoid the busiest road.
Your first day: one stop to Burj Khalifa
Business Bay is the cheap seat for the tower. Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is one Metro stop away, about AED 3, and a taxi to the mall is about AED 12-20. Our Burj Khalifa ticket is a timed-entry ticket, not a guided tour: we book your date and slot, send the e-ticket on WhatsApp and you make your own way to the At the Top entrance on the lower ground floor of The Dubai Mall. Levels 124 and 125 are from $55 with no time limit, and SKY Level 148 is from $115.
Tickets need full prepayment and cannot be refunded or changed once issued, so book your second or third day, not the evening you land, because flights run late and jet lag is real. Sunset and other prime-time slots cost more, and we quote the exact price for your slot on WhatsApp. The best time to visit Burj Khalifa guide has the sunset slot for every month.
For the days after, our full-day desert safari collects you at your hotel in Dubai from $45 per person with no prepayment, and the shared yacht tour from $32 leaves from Dubai Marina. The same Red Line reaches the Marina without a change; for more airport routes see DXB to Downtown and DXB to Dubai Marina.
