The weekend in Dubai is Saturday and Sunday for government offices and schools, with Friday a half day, and the tourist side of the city runs seven days. Malls, attractions and restaurants open every day: the Dubai Mall's shops close at 11 PM Monday to Thursday and at midnight Friday to Sunday, the Metro starts at 8 AM on Sunday, and Friday prayers at 1:15 PM pause some businesses. This guide gives the days, the hours and the quirks, and shows how to plan sights and our tours around them.

Six places and their weekend rules
#1
The Dubai Mall
The mall's own site lists shops closing at 11 PM Monday to Thursday and at midnight from Friday to Sunday, with restaurants and food courts staying open an hour later, to midnight and 1 AM. Opening is 10 AM every day, so a weekday morning is the calm time.
#2
The Dubai Fountain
At its reopening after a renovation, Emaar listed afternoon shows at 1:00 and 1:30 PM, moved to 2:00 and 2:30 PM on Fridays, and evening shows every 30 minutes from 6:00 to 11:00 PM. Check Emaar's channels, because schedules can change.
#3
Global Village
Its site lists 4 PM to midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 4 PM to 1 AM Thursday to Saturday. A Monday-to-Thursday ticket is AED 25 and an any-day ticket AED 30, and Tuesdays are reserved for ladies and families, except on public holidays. The season usually runs from October to April or May.
#4
Dubai Miracle Garden
Reports for this season give 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and 9 AM to 11 PM on weekends, so the weekend evening is the longest window. The garden is open air, which makes the last hours of daylight the comfortable time. Check the official site for the current hours.
#5
Dubai Metro and Tram
RTA lists the Metro from 5 AM to midnight Monday to Thursday and on Saturday, 5 AM to 1 AM on Friday, and 8 AM to midnight on Sunday. The tram runs 6 AM to 1 AM, starting at 9 AM on Sunday. The late Sunday start catches visitors with early plans.
#6
The Old Dubai souks
Souk shops set their own hours, and the lively time is late afternoon and evening. Some traders open late on Friday, after the midday prayer, so Friday morning is the quietest time to look around. Go after 4 PM, or on a guided walk where the stops are planned for you.
The weekend in Dubai: the short answer
The weekend in Dubai is Saturday and Sunday for government offices and schools. Since the government moved its working week a few years ago, federal and Dubai government staff work Monday to Thursday and until noon on Friday. Private companies were free to choose: many follow the same week, and some keep Friday and Saturday off.
For a visitor, the weekend barely matters, because the tourist side of Dubai runs seven days a week: malls, attractions, beaches, restaurants and most tours are open every day. What changes is when things close, how crowded they are and a few Friday and Sunday quirks, covered below.
Who has which weekend
It helps to know what a Saturday or a Friday means for each group, because it explains the queues and the closed counters you may meet.
| Who | Days off | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Federal and Dubai government | Saturday and Sunday | Monday to Thursday 7:30 AM-3:30 PM; Friday until noon |
| Schools | Saturday and Sunday | Most follow the government week |
| Private companies | Varies | Many take Saturday and Sunday; some keep Friday and Saturday |
| Banks and government counters | Weekend days | A shorter Friday; exchange houses and ATMs are available every day |
| Malls, attractions, restaurants, beaches, tours | No fixed day off | Open seven days; busiest from Friday to Sunday |
Friday: the half day and the 1:15 PM prayer
Friday is the main prayer day. The congregational prayer is held at 1:15 PM across the UAE, so around lunchtime some shops, offices and services pause for a short time, and roads near mosques are busy. The city does not close: malls, attractions and restaurants stay open, but a few small traders open late. The Dubai Fountain's afternoon shows also start later on Fridays.
Two other Friday points. Hotel brunches are a Friday tradition, and some venues have moved theirs to Saturday, so check the day before you book: Friday brunch in Dubai explained. And mosques follow prayer times: visiting hours for non-Muslims are shorter or later on Fridays, so check the current schedule before you plan a visit, and read the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque dress code and rules for Abu Dhabi.
Opening hours at a glance
These hours come from the operators' own sites or from reports as of 29 October 2026. They change with the season, Ramadan and public holidays, so treat them as a guide and check the official page on the day.

Metro, tram and getting around on weekends
Public transport runs every day, but the hours differ by weekday, and Sunday has a late start. The RTA timetable lists the Red and Green Lines together:
| Service | Monday-Thursday | Friday | Saturday | Sunday |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Metro | 5 AM-midnight | 5 AM-1 AM | 5 AM-midnight | 8 AM-midnight |
| Dubai Tram | 6 AM-1 AM | 6 AM-1 AM | 6 AM-1 AM | 9 AM-1 AM |
RTA timetable; confirm in the RTA S'hail app for early flights and late nights.
The Sunday start matters: if you have a flight or an early plan on a Sunday, the first train is at 8 AM, so book a taxi instead; the Dubai Metro guide has the stations and fares. Our tours with hotel pickup, such as the desert safari, the Abu Dhabi tour and the sunrise balloon, do not depend on Metro hours at all.
Weekend crowds, and a weekly rhythm
Leisure Dubai peaks from Friday to Sunday, and the hours show it: the Dubai Mall's later closing from Friday, Global Village's later closing from Thursday and Miracle Garden's later weekend closing all point to the end of the week. Beaches, parks and malls tend to fill on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The practical answer is to put timed things on weekdays. A Burj Khalifa slot, a yacht cruise or a morning in Old Dubai are calmer from Monday to Thursday, and the Global Village ticket is cheaper then too. Friday morning suits a beach or a late start, and Friday afternoon suits the Fountain's 2:00 PM show. Save the late weekend evenings for the places that stay open late, and book timed tickets early for them. If you can choose which day does what, this pattern works for most trips:
- Monday to Thursday: the calmest daytime for the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and Old Dubai, and the cheaper Global Village ticket in the evening.
- Friday: a late start or a beach morning, the Fountain at 2:00 or 2:30 PM, and a hotel brunch if you want one. Allow extra time near mosques around 1:15 PM.
- Saturday: the busiest evening for malls and beaches, so book dinner and any timed slot ahead.
- Sunday: the Metro starts at 8 AM and the tram at 9 AM; the Dubai Mall and Global Village stay open late, and the Monday-to-Thursday ticket does not apply.
Ramadan, Eid and public holidays
During Ramadan, opening hours shift: shops open later and stay open late, attractions publish special hours, and eating or drinking in public in the daytime is discouraged. The Ramadan guide for tourists covers the details. Ramadan is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, subject to the official moon sighting; Ramadan 2027 in Dubai has the reported dates.
On public holidays government offices and banks close, and attractions mostly stay open with busier crowds. The next ones on the calendar are Commemoration Day on 30 November, where sources disagree on whether it is a day off, and National Day on 2 and 3 December 2026 according to the UAE Government list, with no change announced as of 28 October. Public holidays and what closes lists them, and UAE National Day in Dubai covers the celebrations.
Your tours across the week
The full-day desert safari is 7 hours from $45 per person, with hotel pickup in Dubai, Sharjah or Ajman, so mall and Metro hours do not matter. There is no prepayment: you agree the date on WhatsApp and pay on the day. Timed tickets are different. A Burj Khalifa ticket, from $55, is for a fixed date and slot and cannot be refunded or changed once issued, and the shared yacht tour, from $32, takes full pre-payment to secure the hourly slot. Check the weekday before you pay.
Mosque visits follow prayer times, so if your Abu Dhabi day falls on a Friday, tell us when you book and check the Grand Mosque's current schedule. The sunrise balloon, $275, sells out one to two weeks ahead, so ask for a weekend date early.
