The short version: Dubai Marina is where almost everything leaves from. The shared yacht hour from $32, the 21+ yacht party at 9 PM and 26 of our 30 charter boats, from a 31 ft sports boat to a 125 ft event yacht, board at the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower. Dubai Harbour, the superyacht marina next to Bluewaters Island, is the departure point for four boats only, from 98 to 150 ft, and a trip from there starts on open water rather than in the canal. Here is how the two compare on boats, access, routes and cost per person.

Tour on this route: Dubai Marina Shared Yacht Tour — From $32 per person, 1 hour.
Do yachts leave from Dubai Marina or Dubai Harbour?
Both, but not equally. The $32 shared hour, the $99 yacht party and 26 of our 30 charter boats, 31-125 ft, leave from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower in Dubai Marina. Four boats of 98-150 ft, Mr & Mrs Smith, Encore, Stardom and Behike, leave from Dubai Harbour, the superyacht marina next to Bluewaters Island.

The two departure points, and what leaves from each
#1
Dubai Marina: the pier behind Al Majara Tower
The default. Both shared cruises and 26 of the 30 charter boats leave from here, from the 31 ft Sealine at AED 400 per hour to the 125 ft event yacht X15 for 190 guests. DMCC is the nearest metro station, Marina Mall gives 3 hours of free parking and every route starts with the canal and the towers.
#2
Dubai Harbour: the superyacht marina by Bluewaters
Four boats leave from here: Mr & Mrs Smith (98 ft, 12 guests, 3 cabins), Encore (131 ft, 50 guests), Stardom (140 ft, up to 100 guests) and Behike (150 ft, 50 guests). Rates start at AED 2,800 per hour, the minimum is 3-4 hours, and the trip begins on open water with Ain Dubai beside you and the Palm ahead.
#3
The shared cruises: Marina only
There is no shared departure from Dubai Harbour. The $32 hour checks in at Level P of Al Majara Tower 20 minutes before each hourly slot; the $99 party boards at the pier behind the tower at 8:30 PM for a 9:00 PM start. Both are paid in advance because the slots sell out, and both leave strictly on time.
#4
The Marina route: the canal first
Leaving the pier you are inside the canal: Cayan Tower, the waterline cafés and the moored yachts at arm's length, then the mouth of the Marina, JBR Beach, Bluewaters and the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai. Two hours cover that loop; three add the Palm Jumeirah lagoon with a swim stop; four reach Burj Al Arab and Atlantis.
#5
The Harbour route: open water first
From Dubai Harbour there is no canal to leave. The yacht is on open water within minutes, with Ain Dubai and Bluewaters alongside, the Palm crescent and Atlantis ahead and the whole Marina skyline behind you as a backdrop rather than a corridor. With a 4-hour slot there is time for Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea as well.
The verdict: the Marina, unless your boat is one of the four
Pick Dubai Marina if you are booking the shared hour, the yacht party or any charter boat up to 125 ft: that is 26 of our 30 boats, the metro on the doorstep, 3 hours of free parking at Marina Mall and a route that starts among the towers. Pick Dubai Harbour because your boat leaves from there, and for no other reason: four yachts of 98-150 ft, for the occasions that need three to five cabins, a crew of up to seven and space for up to 100 guests.
Nobody chooses a departure point first and a boat second; the boat decides. What the choice changes is how you get there, what you see in the first stretch of the trip and what it costs per person. That is what the rest of this guide compares, criterion by criterion, with a lean at the end of each.
The two departure points compared
The two marinas are neighbours on the same stretch of coast, but they are different kinds of place. Dubai Marina is a canal cut in from the sea and lined with residential towers, with the pier in the middle of it; Dubai Harbour is a superyacht marina and cruise terminal on the open coast next to Bluewaters Island, with the Marina and JBR skyline behind it.
| Dubai Marina (Al Majara Tower) | Dubai Harbour | |
|---|---|---|
| What leaves from here | The shared hour, the yacht party, 26 charter boats | 4 charter yachts |
| Boat sizes | 31-125 ft, 6-190 guests | 98-150 ft, 12-100 guests |
| Cheapest charter | Sealine, AED 400 per hour, 3-hour minimum | Mr & Mrs Smith, AED 2,800 per hour, 3-hour minimum |
| Minimum spend for the boat | AED 1,200 | AED 8,400 |
| Boarding | Level P (shared hour), the pier (party), the marina lounge on the marina level (charters) | The berth; details sent with the confirmation |
| Nearest metro | DMCC on the Red Line, then a short taxi or a 15-20 minute walk | None at the door; a taxi |
| Parking | Marina Mall, 3 hours free | Ask us when you book |
| First thing you see | The canal and the towers | Open water, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai, the Palm ahead |
| Swim stop | On charters of 3 hours or more, off the Palm or JBR in daylight | The same rules, with no canal to leave first |
Charter rates are per hour for the whole boat with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included. Sunset is the most requested slot at both marinas; book it first.
Which boats leave where
The rule in our fleet is simple. Everything up to the 110 ft Icon and the 125 ft event yacht X15 boards at the marina lounge on the marina level of Al Majara Tower. The four boats below are the exceptions: three to five cabins each and crews of three to seven.
| Yacht | Length | Guests | Cabins | Crew | From, per hour | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mr & Mrs Smith | 98 ft | 12 | 3 | 3 | AED 2,800 | 3 hours |
| Encore | 131 ft | 50 | 4 | 6 | AED 12,000 | 4 hours |
| Stardom | 140 ft | 100 | 5 | 6 | AED 11,250 | 4 hours |
| Behike | 150 ft | 50 | 5 | 7 | AED 22,500 | 4 hours |
All four leave from Dubai Harbour. Everything else in the fleet leaves from Dubai Marina.
The Marina side runs from the four sports boats, the Sealine (31 ft, 6 guests) and Uno, Dos and Tres (35-40 ft, 9-10 guests) at AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, through the 48-65 ft yachts with a 2-hour minimum, such as the Orion at AED 800 per hour for 12 guests, up to the 90 ft houseboat X8 for 60 guests and the X15 for 190. The full list by size is in yacht rental prices in Dubai.
The lean: unless we have told you your boat is one of these four, you are leaving from the Marina.
Getting there: the metro and the tram against a taxi
Dubai Marina is the easier of the two to reach without a car. The Red Line stops at DMCC and Sobha Realty, the two Marina/JLT stations, for AED 5-7.5 from Downtown on a Nol card; from DMCC the pier is a taxi at about the AED 12 minimum fare or a 15-20 minute walk along the water, and the tram runs on into the Marina and JBR. Marina Mall offers 3 hours of free parking a short walk from Al Majara Tower, enough for the shared hour or a 2-hour charter. The step-by-step, with the check-in times for each cruise, is in how to get to the yacht pier.
Dubai Harbour has no metro station at the door. From anywhere in the city a taxi to the berth is the simplest: budget as for the Marina, about AED 50-70 from Downtown and AED 80-110 from DXB, and pin the berth we send with your confirmation rather than Dubai Harbour in general. Guests staying in the Marina or on JBR are a short taxi ride away.
Rush hours weigh equally on both: 7-9:30 AM and 5-8 PM on Sheikh Zayed Road add 15-30 minutes, and Friday and Saturday evenings are busy around the Marina. For a sunset slot from Downtown, the metro to DMCC beats a taxi on reliability; for the Harbour, leave earlier and treat the taxi time as the worst case. The lean: the Marina wins on access; the Harbour is a taxi trip, which for a superyacht party is what most groups do anyway.
What each route shows first, and how long it takes
This is the real difference on the day. From the pier behind Al Majara Tower the boat is inside the canal for the first stretch: the towers on both banks, the twisted Cayan Tower, the cafés at the waterline and the yachts moored down the middle. Then the mouth of the Marina opens onto JBR Beach, Bluewaters Island and the photo stop in front of Ain Dubai, the world's largest observation wheel and the landmark of this stretch of coast. On the way back the whole Marina skyline lines up in front of you.
From Dubai Harbour there is no canal. The yacht is on open water almost at once, with Ain Dubai and Bluewaters alongside and the Palm crescent ahead; the Marina and JBR skyline is the backdrop over your shoulder rather than a corridor you pass through. What you lose is the close-up of the towers; what you gain is time on the water where the swim stops and the big hotels are.
| Time on the water | From Dubai Marina | From Dubai Harbour |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | The shared hour: canal, JBR, Bluewaters, the Ain Dubai photo stop | No 1-hour departures |
| 2 hours | Marina canal, JBR, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai | No 2-hour departures; the minimum is 3-4 hours |
| 3 hours | Plus the Palm Jumeirah lagoon with a swim stop | Mr & Mrs Smith: Bluewaters, the Palm lagoon and a swim stop with time in hand |
| 4 hours | Plus Burj Al Arab and Atlantis from the sea | Encore, Stardom, Behike: the Palm, Atlantis and Burj Al Arab from the sea after an open-water start |
Swimming is in daylight, at anchor, off the Palm or JBR; the Coast Guard closes it around 7 PM in summer and 5 PM in winter. The Marina route stage by stage is in the Marina yacht route.
The lean: for the skyline close up and a first look at Dubai from the water, the Marina, and the shared hour does it for $32. For a day built around the Palm, a swim and the sea, the Harbour's open-water start is an advantage, and with a 4-hour minimum you will use it.
Cost per person: the maths from each marina
Charters are priced per hour for the whole boat, so the per-person figure depends on how many of you there are and how many hours the boat needs as a minimum. These are the minimum bookings at the retail rates, divided by a full boat; a half-full boat doubles the number.
| Boat and departure point | Minimum booking | Boat total | Per person, full boat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sealine, 31 ft, Marina | 3 h x AED 400 | AED 1,200 | AED 200 (6 guests) |
| Orion, 48 ft, Marina | 2 h x AED 800 | AED 1,600 | About AED 130 (12 guests) |
| Aries, 64 ft, Marina | 2 h x AED 1,150 | AED 2,300 | AED 77 (30 guests) |
| X8 houseboat, 90 ft, Marina | 3 h x AED 2,800 | AED 8,400 | AED 140 (60 guests) |
| Icon, 110 ft, Marina | 4 h x AED 4,900 | AED 19,600 | About AED 390 (50 guests) |
| Mr & Mrs Smith, 98 ft, Harbour | 3 h x AED 2,800 | AED 8,400 | AED 700 (12 guests) |
| Stardom, 140 ft, Harbour | 4 h x AED 11,250 | AED 45,000 | AED 450 (100 guests) |
| Encore, 131 ft, Harbour | 4 h x AED 12,000 | AED 48,000 | About AED 960 (50 guests) |
| Behike, 150 ft, Harbour | 4 h x AED 22,500 | AED 90,000 | About AED 1,800 (50 guests) |
Retail rates with captain, crew, fuel, water, ice and soft drinks included; catering is added in advance for a fee and quoted on WhatsApp. A security pre-authorisation of AED 2,000-15,000, depending on the yacht, is held on a card at check-in and released after the trip.
Against those numbers sit the two shared cruises from the Marina: the hour from $32 a seat and the yacht party at $99 for four hours with a live DJ, a live BBQ and unlimited soft drinks. For two people, two seats on the shared hour cost a fraction of the cheapest Marina charter; for 24-30 friends, a 62-64 ft yacht from the Marina at AED 1,150 per hour, Libra, Pisces or Aries, works out at AED 77-96 a head and is the sweet spot; the Harbour only makes sense when the occasion, not the headcount, needs the boat.
The lean: the Marina for value at every group size up to about 190 people; the Harbour when you want cabins, a crew of six or seven and the superyacht itself.
Who should choose what
By traveller, the choice is usually already made.
- First visit, two of you, an hour to spare: the Marina and the shared hour at the slot before sunset, $32 each, check-in 20 minutes early at Level P with an original passport or Emirates ID.
- A night out, 21+: the Marina and the yacht party, boarding 8:30 PM, $99 with the DJ, the BBQ and soft drinks included, back around 1:00 AM.
- A family or a group of friends, 6-30 people: the Marina, with a boat from the Sealine at AED 400 per hour to the 64 ft Aries for 30 guests at AED 1,150; bring your own drinks and dry snacks, and children under 10 wear life jackets on deck and in the water.
- A company event or a big birthday, 50-190 people: still the Marina: the 110 ft Icon for 50, the X8 houseboat for 60, the X15 for 190. Corporate yacht charter in Dubai covers invoicing and timing.
- A celebration where the yacht is the point, 12-100 guests with cabins: Dubai Harbour and the four yachts above, 3-4 hours minimum, from AED 8,400 for the boat.
- A proposal for two: the Marina, a small yacht at sunset; the Harbour's 98 ft Mr & Mrs Smith, kept for groups of up to 12, is the private superyacht version if budget is not the question.
Using both in one trip
The two marinas are not rivals in a week's plan; they are different days. Most of our guests go on the water twice: once early in the trip, and once as the big evening.
- Day 1 or 2, sunset: the shared hour from the Marina to learn the coastline: canal, JBR, Bluewaters, Ain Dubai. Walk Marina Walk afterwards; the Marina area guide has the evening laid out.
- A night in the middle: the yacht party from the same pier, 9 PM to 1 AM, around the Palm lagoon to the Burj Al Arab photo stop, or a private sunset charter from the marina lounge for your own group.
- The occasion: a yacht from Dubai Harbour for the birthday, the anniversary or the company night, 3-4 hours from the open coast with the Palm ahead. Book the sunset slot first and confirm the final guest numbers and catering the evening before.
- On land between them: Bluewaters Island itself, across the footbridge from JBR, for the closest land view of Ain Dubai and a look at the Harbour next door; see Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai. The full-day desert safari fits any afternoon, collected from your hotel from $45 with no prepayment.
Whichever marina, the booking works the same way: send us guests, hours, date and occasion on WhatsApp; we check the yacht with the marina and confirm the time and the total before you pay anything. Every guest carries a passport or Emirates ID copy on their phone, shoes come off before boarding, and if the Coast Guard issues a weather warning you get a new route, a new date or a full refund free of charge. The whole fleet, both marinas, is on our yacht rental page.
FAQ
Do yachts leave from Dubai Marina or Dubai Harbour?
Both, but not equally. The $32 shared hour, the $99 yacht party and 26 of our 30 charter boats, 31-125 ft, leave from the marina pier behind Al Majara Tower in Dubai Marina. Four boats of 98-150 ft, Mr & Mrs Smith, Encore, Stardom and Behike, leave from Dubai Harbour, the superyacht marina next to Bluewaters Island.
Is Dubai Harbour the same as Dubai Marina?
No. Dubai Marina is the canal district lined with towers, with the yacht pier in the middle; Dubai Harbour is a separate superyacht marina and cruise terminal on the open coast next to Bluewaters Island, a short taxi ride away. They share the same skyline, which is why yacht photos from either look alike, but the boarding points and the start of the route are different.
Which yachts leave from Dubai Harbour?
Four: Mr & Mrs Smith (98 ft, 12 guests, 3 cabins, from AED 2,800 per hour, 3-hour minimum), Encore (131 ft, 50 guests, from AED 12,000), Stardom (140 ft, up to 100 guests, from AED 11,250) and Behike (150 ft, 50 guests, from AED 22,500), the last three with a 4-hour minimum. We send the berth details with the confirmation.
Can I take the shared yacht tour or the yacht party from Dubai Harbour?
No. Both shared cruises leave only from Dubai Marina: the 1-hour tour checks in at Level P of Al Majara Tower 20 minutes before each hourly slot, and the 21+ party boards at the pier behind the tower at 8:30 PM for the 9 PM departure. Both are paid in full in advance and leave strictly on time, with no refunds for late arrivals.
How do I get to Dubai Harbour for a yacht charter?
By taxi. There is no metro station at the door, so pin the berth we send with your confirmation and budget about AED 50-70 from Downtown or AED 80-110 from DXB, plus 15-30 minutes in the 5-8 PM rush. From the Marina or JBR hotels it is a short taxi ride. Arrive 20-30 minutes before your slot with a passport or Emirates ID copy on each phone.
Which departure point is better for seeing Palm Jumeirah from the water?
Dubai Harbour starts on open water next to Bluewaters with the Palm ahead, so a yacht from there reaches it sooner. From Dubai Marina the Palm lagoon is part of every 3-hour charter, with a swim stop in daylight, and Atlantis and Burj Al Arab from the sea are added at 4 hours; the yacht party also rounds the Palm lagoon on its 4-hour night.
What is the cheapest private yacht from each marina?
From Dubai Marina, the 31 ft Sealine for 6 guests at AED 400 per hour with a 3-hour minimum: AED 1,200 for the boat, or AED 200 each when full. From Dubai Harbour, the 98 ft Mr & Mrs Smith at AED 2,800 per hour with a 3-hour minimum: AED 8,400 for the boat, or AED 700 each with 12 guests. Captain, crew, fuel, water and ice are included in both.
