Dubai Hills is a quiet, car-dependent family community, not a sightseeing base. Its draw is Dubai Hills Mall, a large park and an 18-hole golf course around villas and apartments, with the Downtown skyline roughly 15-25 minutes away by taxi and no Metro station of its own. It suits families on a long stay and people visiting residents; first-timers with a few nights are better in Downtown or the Marina. This guide covers what is there, travel times and how to reach Burj Khalifa tickets from $55.

Is Dubai Hills a good area to stay in Dubai?
It is a good base for families on a long stay who rent an apartment or villa and are happy to use taxis, and a poor base for a short first trip. There is no Metro station, few hotels and no beach, and Downtown and the Marina are roughly 15-35 minutes away by taxi.

Five places to reach from Dubai Hills
#1
Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain
The tower is the trip that justifies the taxi. A timed ticket for Levels 124 and 125 starts from $55 per person, with no time limit on the decks, and the Fountain plays on the lake outside The Dubai Mall every 30 minutes in the evening. Book a slot about an hour before sunset to see day, dusk and the lights.
#2
Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai
The nearest big attraction after Dubai Hills Mall itself: an indoor snow park, hundreds of shops and restaurants and a Red Line station at the door. It is the answer to a 40°C afternoon, and it gives a second mall to choose from. Check Ski Dubai's prices, height and age rules on its official site before you promise the children.
#3
Dubai Miracle Garden, in season
Reported open from 8 October 2026 to 31 May 2027, with adult tickets at about AED 100 before VAT and hours of 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and to 11 PM at weekends, according to Gulf News and Khaleej Times. It is closed for the summer, so confirm the season's dates on the official site before you go.
#4
Kite Beach and the Burj Al Arab coast
Dubai Hills has no beach, and Kite Beach is the closest practical one: free public sand, cafés and the Burj Al Arab on the horizon, with a good chance of kites in the air. Go in the morning or late afternoon from May to September. Our jet ski and water sports tours start from the harbour nearby.
#5
The desert safari, with pickup
A quiet base far from the sights loses nothing here, because the safari collects you from your hotel or apartment in Dubai in an air-conditioned 4x4. Seven hours cover dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride, a BBQ dinner and shows, from $45 per person, paid on the day with no prepayment.
Dubai Hills in one minute: who should stay there
Dubai Hills is a quiet, car-dependent family community, not a sightseeing base. Dubai Hills Estate, built by Emaar, is a residential district of villas and apartments around an 18-hole golf course, with a large mall and a park at its heart. It has no Metro station, few hotels and no beach. Downtown and the Marina are roughly 15-35 minutes away by taxi, depending on the traffic.
It suits families on a stay of a week or more who rent an apartment or villa, people visiting friends who live there, golfers, and anyone who wants a calm base with a big supermarket on the doorstep. Skip it for a short first trip: you would spend more time and money in taxis than you save on the rent. First-timers are usually happier in Downtown or the Marina, and where to stay in Dubai for a first trip compares them.
What is in Dubai Hills: the mall, the park and the golf course
Dubai Hills Mall is the draw for visitors: an Emaar mall which opened in recent years between Al Khail Road and Umm Suqeim Road, with hundreds of shops and restaurants. Dubai Hills Park sits beside it, and the villas and apartments are grouped around the golf course. Everything is built for residents, so the scale is wide roads and big car parks rather than pavement cafés.
| What | What it is | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Hills Mall | An Emaar mall with hundreds of shops and restaurants, a supermarket and family entertainment | Air-conditioned for the hot hours; large car parks; easy taxi drop-off |
| Dubai Hills Park | A large landscaped park beside the mall, with playgrounds and, in its paid zones, attractions such as a splash park and a skate park | The grounds are reported to be open round the clock; sources differ on whether entry or only the attractions are charged, so check before you go |
| Dubai Hills Golf Club | An 18-hole championship course at the centre of the community, with views towards the Downtown skyline | Visitors can usually book tee times; check the club's rates, hours and dress code |
| Healthcare and schools | King's College Hospital Dubai and several international schools sit in or beside the community | Why residents like it; of little use on a short trip |
Hours and prices change; check with Emaar and the venues.
Getting around from Dubai Hills: no Metro, so plan for taxis
Dubai Hills has no Metro station of its own. The Red Line runs along Sheikh Zayed Road, several kilometres away, so almost every trip is a taxi or a hire car; our guide to taxis and Careem explains fares and apps.
| From Dubai Hills to | By taxi (about, off-peak) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Burj Khalifa / The Dubai Mall | 15-25 minutes | Add 10-15 minutes at rush hour |
| Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai | 10-15 minutes | Has a Red Line station |
| Dubai Marina and JBR | 25-35 minutes | A taxi is simpler than changing trains |
| Burj Al Arab, Kite Beach, Umm Suqeim | 15-25 minutes | The nearest sea for a half day |
| Miracle Garden (in season) | 15-25 minutes | Open until 31 May 2027 this season, per reports |
| DXB airport | 25-35 minutes | A taxi is the sensible choice with luggage |
Estimates only: Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road are slow at rush hour. Check live fares in the Careem or RTA apps.
A car changes the equation. With a hire car, Dubai Hills is a well-connected drive of about 20 minutes to most places, and the malls have large car parks. Our guide to renting a car in Dubai as a tourist covers licences and costs.
Is Dubai Hills good for a family holiday? The honest case
For the right family, yes. The streets are quiet and wide, there is a park for the children in the morning, a mall for the hot afternoon, a supermarket for breakfast and homes with space, which a hotel room cannot offer. A rented apartment with a kitchen and separate bedrooms makes a long stay with children easier.
- For: space, quiet, a park and a mall close by, a hospital in the community and easy parking if you hire a car.
- Against: no Metro, no beach, few hotels, and every sight is a 15-35 minute taxi ride each way.
- Heat: from May to September, the park and golf course are for early mornings and evenings; the mall is for the middle of the day.
- Evenings: quiet, with restaurants in the mall and along the boulevard rather than on a seafront.

Renting in Dubai Hills: what to check before you book
Most visitors stay in a rented apartment or villa, because hotels are few. Holiday homes in Dubai must be licensed by the Department of Economy and Tourism, so ask the host for the permit number and keep it with your booking. Check the cancellation terms, the total price including cleaning and any tourism dirham fee, and whether parking is included.
Ask about the exact address. Dubai Hills is large, and a flat on the mall side is a walk from the shops, while one on the far side is a taxi from everything. Check the distance to the park and the mall, and whether the building has a pool, which matters more than the view in summer. Our Al Barsha guide covers the nearby budget alternative with a Metro station.
From Dubai Hills to Burj Khalifa: a family evening
The one trip every visit needs is the tower. Our Burj Khalifa ticket is a timed-entry ticket for The Dubai Mall, from $55 per person for Levels 124 and 125, with no time limit on the decks; allow 1.5-2 hours. The SKY ticket at $115 adds Level 148 with a lounge, a host and refreshments. You choose the date and slot, we book it and send the e-tickets on WhatsApp, and you make your own way: from Dubai Hills that is a taxi of roughly 15-25 minutes to The Dubai Mall, then the At the Top entrance on the lower ground floor.
Three things matter. Tickets are paid in full and cannot be refunded or changed once issued, so check the date and time. Sunset and other prime-time slots cost more, and we quote your exact slot on WhatsApp. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and you should carry a passport or ID. A slot about an hour before sunset gives day, dusk and city lights on one ticket, as our best time to visit Burj Khalifa guide explains. The Fountain plays outside the mall every 30 minutes from about 6 PM, so it can finish the evening; allow time for the security check on the way in and the taxi queue after the show.
The full-day desert safari, from $45 per person, collects you from your hotel or apartment in Dubai; for a rental, agree the pickup point on WhatsApp. It is not recommended for infants under 3, pregnant women or people with back or heart problems. The 1-hour shared yacht tour from $32 welcomes children under adult supervision, but the pier is behind Al Majara Tower in the Marina, so take a taxi.
Dubai Hills or somewhere else: a straight comparison
Dubai Hills is a good answer to a specific question. This is the short version.
| Traveller | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Family of four or more for a week or longer | Good fit | Space, quiet, a park and a mall; taxis for the sights |
| First trip, 3-5 nights | Choose Downtown or the Marina | Walkable sights and the Metro |
| Beach every day | Choose JBR or Jumeirah | There is no beach here |
| Burj Khalifa and the Fountain first | Choose Downtown | Walk to the tower; Dubai Hills is a taxi ride |
| Golf | Good fit | An 18-hole course in the community |
| Tight budget | Choose Al Barsha or Old Dubai | Cheaper hotels and a Metro station nearby |
