Al Barsha is the budget base halfway between Downtown and the Marina. It sits around Mall of the Emirates, with a Red Line Metro station, 3-4 star hotels and apartments that usually cost less than the same rating in Downtown or the Marina, and the beaches and Burj Al Arab 10-20 minutes away by taxi. It has no beach, few sights beyond the mall and the gardens, and quiet evenings. This guide covers its four parts, travel times, hotel tips and how to reach our Marina yacht tour from $32.

Is Al Barsha a good area to stay in Dubai?
It is a good budget base if you will use the Metro: Mall of the Emirates station puts the Marina about 15 minutes away and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall roughly 15-20 minutes away, and hotels usually cost less than in Downtown or the Marina. It is not for beach-first or nightlife-first trips: there is no beach and evenings are quiet.

Six things within reach of Al Barsha
#1
Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai
The anchor of the district: hundreds of shops and restaurants, family entertainment and Ski Dubai, an indoor snow park with a chairlift and a slope. It is covered, air-conditioned and a short walk from the Metro, which makes it the default plan for a hot afternoon or a rainy one. Check Ski Dubai's current prices and age rules on its official site.
#2
Dubai Miracle Garden, in season
Reported open from 8 October 2026 to 31 May 2027, with hours of 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and to 11 PM at weekends, according to Gulf News and Khaleej Times. Adult tickets were reported at about AED 100 before VAT. It is a short taxi from most of Al Barsha; check the official site for the season's details.
#3
Dubai Butterfly Garden
A climate-controlled garden of connected domes with butterflies, beside the Miracle Garden. It works as a cooler add-on to the flower visit, and a combined ticket with the Miracle Garden was reported at AED 140 when the season opened. Opening dates follow the garden's own calendar, so check before you plan a day around it.
#4
Kite Beach and the Jumeirah coast
The nearest sea for Al Barsha. Kite Beach and the public beaches by the Burj Al Arab are a taxi ride away, with sand, cafés and a clear view of the sail-shaped hotel. Go in the morning or late afternoon from May to September. Our jet ski to the Burj Al Arab also starts nearby, at Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour.
#5
The Red Line to Downtown and the Marina
The Red Line is Al Barsha's best feature: the Marina stations are about 15 minutes in one direction, Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall roughly 15-20 minutes in the other, and the airport terminals are on the same line. Fares are AED 3-7.5 by zone on a Silver Nol card. Trains run from about 5 AM to midnight or 1 AM.
#6
Dubai Marina by yacht at dusk
The Marina is where Al Barsha guests spend their evenings. Take the train to DMCC, then the tram, a short taxi or a walk to the pier behind Al Majara Tower, where our one-hour shared yacht tour leaves hourly from $32 per person. The towers, JBR and Bluewaters pass by, with a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai.
Al Barsha in one minute: who it suits and who should skip it
Al Barsha is the budget base halfway between Downtown and the Marina. It is a large residential district in west Dubai around Mall of the Emirates, with a Red Line Metro station at the mall, 3-4 star hotels and hotel apartments that usually cost less than the same rating in Downtown or the Marina, and everyday cafés and supermarkets at normal prices. The Marina is about 15 minutes away by Metro, and the beaches and Burj Al Arab are 10-20 minutes by taxi.
It suits budget travellers, shoppers, families who want a supermarket downstairs and a mall for the hot hours, and anyone on a longer stay who values quiet evenings. Skip it if you want to walk to the beach, a canal promenade or a night out: Al Barsha has none of those, and the evening is mostly the mall and a handful of hotel restaurants. First-timers with three or four nights are usually better in the Marina or Downtown; see where to stay in Dubai for a first trip.
The four parts of Al Barsha, and which one to book
Al Barsha is divided into sectors, and which one you book matters more than the district name. Check the map before you pay, because two addresses that both say Al Barsha can be a 3-minute walk and a 20-minute taxi from the Metro.
| Part | What it is | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Al Barsha 1 | Around Mall of the Emirates on Sheikh Zayed Road, with the Metro and hotels at or near the mall | Metro access, the mall, short stays |
| Barsha Heights (TECOM) | High-rise hotels and apartments beside Dubai Internet City, and the liveliest part in the evening | Mid-priced hotels, restaurants, a Metro station nearby |
| Al Barsha 2 and 3 | Quiet villa streets and family homes, with very few hotels | Long family stays in a rented house or apartment |
| Al Barsha South | Further out, near Dubai Science Park and the two gardens | Garden visits in season; little else |
Check the walking distance to a Metro station before booking: many Al Barsha addresses are a taxi ride from the Red Line.
Mall of the Emirates is the anchor: hundreds of shops and restaurants, Ski Dubai, a multiplex cinema and Magic Planet family entertainment, and it is attached to two hotels, a Kempinski and a Sheraton. Those two are at the top of the price range here; most budget stays are in the streets and towers around it. Our Mall of the Emirates guide covers the mall itself.
How Al Barsha connects: Metro and taxi times
The Red Line stops at Mall of the Emirates, with Dubai Internet City a few stops further towards the Marina serving Barsha Heights. The Marina stations, DMCC and Sobha Realty, are about 15 minutes away; Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is roughly 15-20 minutes the other way. Fares are AED 3-7.5 by zone on a Silver Nol card, as explained in our Dubai Metro guide.
| From Al Barsha to | By Metro | By taxi (about, off-peak) |
|---|---|---|
| Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall | Red Line from Mall of the Emirates, roughly 15-20 minutes | 20-30 minutes |
| Dubai Marina, the yacht pier | Red Line to DMCC, about 15 minutes, then tram or a short taxi | 15-25 minutes |
| JBR Beach | To DMCC or Sobha Realty, then the tram | 20-30 minutes |
| Burj Al Arab, Kite Beach | Metro to Mall of the Emirates, then a taxi | 10-20 minutes |
| Palm Jumeirah (Atlantis) | To the Marina, then tram and monorail | 25-35 minutes |
| DXB airport | Red Line direct to Terminal 1 or 3, about 40-50 minutes | 25-35 minutes |
Times are approximate; taxi times stretch at rush hour on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Budget hotels in Al Barsha: what to look for
Al Barsha's selling point is price. Rates for 3 and 4 star hotels and hotel apartments here are usually lower than in the Marina or Downtown, and they fall further from June to September, when much of the city is at its cheapest. Prices swing hard by season and by date, so compare live rates rather than trusting a figure in a guide. Before booking, check four things:
- Walking distance to the Metro. Under 10 minutes is fine in winter; in summer, treat anything over 5-10 minutes as a taxi.
- Which sector. Al Barsha 1 and Barsha Heights have the stations and the food; Al Barsha 2 and 3 are quiet streets where you will take taxis for everything.
- Road side or quiet side. Rooms facing Sheikh Zayed Road have the views and the traffic noise.
- The extras. Hotels add a tourism dirham fee per room per night. Ask about breakfast, a pool and any shuttle.
For a rented apartment or villa, Dubai requires holiday homes to be licensed by the Department of Economy and Tourism, so ask the host for the permit number. Dubai Hills, nearby, is the quieter alternative for family stays.
What to do in and near Al Barsha
Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai are the reason most visitors come: an indoor snow park, shops and restaurants for the hot hours, and a Metro station at the door. It is the plan for a 40°C afternoon, not a day out in January.
Two gardens sit in the south of the district and run by season. Dubai Miracle Garden was reported open from 8 October 2026 to 31 May 2027, with adult tickets at about AED 100 before VAT, according to Gulf News and Khaleej Times; hours were reported as 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and to 11 PM at weekends. The Butterfly Garden is next door, and a combined ticket was reported at AED 140. Our Miracle Garden guide has the details; check the official site before you go.
For the sea, you are close to the Jumeirah coast: Kite Beach and the public beaches by the Burj Al Arab are 10-20 minutes by taxi. Our jet ski to the Burj Al Arab, from $79 per jet ski, meets at Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour, next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, so Al Barsha is one of the closer bases for it. There is no hotel pickup, and every rider needs an original passport or Emirates ID.
From Al Barsha to the Marina: a yacht evening on the Metro
The Marina is the reason to be on the Red Line. Take the train from Mall of the Emirates to DMCC, about 15 minutes, then the tram, a short taxi or a walk of about 10 minutes to the pier behind Al Majara Tower. Our 1-hour shared yacht tour leaves from Level P of the tower, from $32 per person: a premium yacht that sails past the Marina, JBR and Bluewaters, with a photo stop in front of Ain Dubai, which is a landmark to look at rather than ride.
Check in 20 minutes before departure, because the yacht leaves strictly on time and late arrivals are not refunded. Pay in full in advance, as the hourly departures sell out. Bring your passport or Emirates ID and take your shoes off before boarding; children are welcome under adult supervision.
A budget base does not cost you the big days. The full-day desert safari collects you from your hotel in Dubai in an air-conditioned 4x4, from $45 per person with no prepayment, for 7 hours of dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride, a BBQ dinner and shows.
Al Barsha or somewhere else: a straight comparison
Al Barsha earns its place for a particular traveller. This is the short version.
| Traveller | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Budget first-timers | Good fit | Metro at the mall, lower hotel prices, cafés and supermarkets |
| Shoppers, Ski Dubai fans | Stay here | The mall is at the door |
| Beach every day | Choose JBR or the Marina | There is no beach in Al Barsha; the nearest sand is a taxi ride |
| Burj Khalifa and the Fountain first | Choose Downtown | Walk to the tower; Al Barsha is 15-20 minutes away by Metro |
| Nightlife | Choose the Marina | Al Barsha is quiet once the mall closes |
| Long family stay | Al Barsha 2 and 3, or Dubai Hills | Space and quiet, with taxis for sights |
Verdicts are for a first visit of 3-7 nights; longer stays change the maths.
The district our yacht cruises leave from is described in the Dubai Marina area guide, which is the natural next read if the Marina looks better to you.
FAQ
Is Al Barsha a good area to stay in Dubai?
It is a good budget base if you will use the Metro: Mall of the Emirates station puts the Marina about 15 minutes away and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall roughly 15-20 minutes away, and hotels usually cost less than in Downtown or the Marina. It is not for beach-first or nightlife-first trips: there is no beach and evenings are quiet.
Is Al Barsha near the Metro?
Al Barsha 1, around Mall of the Emirates, is on the Red Line, and Barsha Heights is near the Dubai Internet City station. Al Barsha 2, 3 and South are residential, and some addresses are a taxi ride from a station. Check the walking distance before you book.
How far is Al Barsha from Dubai Marina and the beach?
Dubai Marina is about 15 minutes by Metro or 15-25 minutes by taxi. JBR Beach is about 20-30 minutes by taxi, and Kite Beach and the Burj Al Arab are about 10-20 minutes. Al Barsha has no beach of its own.
Are there budget hotels in Al Barsha?
Yes: many 3 and 4 star hotels and hotel apartments, especially around Mall of the Emirates and in Barsha Heights, usually priced below the same star rating in Downtown or the Marina, and cheaper still from June to September. Compare live rates, and add the tourism dirham fee that hotels charge per room per night.
What is there to do in Al Barsha?
Mall of the Emirates with Ski Dubai and hundreds of shops and restaurants, and in the cooler season the Dubai Miracle Garden and Butterfly Garden. The Miracle Garden was reported open from 8 October 2026 to 31 May 2027. Beyond that, Al Barsha is a base for the rest of the city, not a destination.
Can I join your tours from Al Barsha?
Yes. The full-day desert safari (from $45) collects you from your hotel in Dubai and needs no prepayment. The Marina yacht and jet ski tours do not include pickup: for the yacht take the Red Line to DMCC; the jet ski meets at Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour, about 10-20 minutes by taxi.
Is Al Barsha quiet at night?
Yes, mostly. It is a residential district with ordinary evenings: cafés, supermarkets and a mall that stays open late. Barsha Heights is livelier because of its hotels. Dubai is one of the safest big cities for visitors, and the late-night venues are in the Marina and Downtown, a short taxi or Metro ride away.
