The best mall in Dubai for a visitor is The Dubai Mall, with 1,200+ shops, the aquarium panel, the Fountain and the Burj Khalifa entrance under one roof; Mall of the Emirates is second, for Ski Dubai and an easy Metro ride. Dubai Marina Mall and City Walk suit shorter, lighter visits. This guide ranks the malls tourists actually use, says how to reach each, when they are busy and how a Burj Khalifa ticket, from $55, fits into a shopping day.

What is the best mall in Dubai for tourists?
The Dubai Mall, with 1,200+ shops, the aquarium panel, the Fountain and the Burj Khalifa entrance. It opens at 10 AM and closes at 11 PM Monday to Thursday and at midnight Friday to Sunday. Mall of the Emirates is the runner-up, for Ski Dubai and an easy Metro ride.

The five malls visitors actually use, ranked
#1
1. The Dubai Mall
The one mall that is a destination in its own right: 1,200+ shops, a luxury wing on Fashion Avenue, the huge aquarium panel that is free to look at, the At the Top entrance for the Burj Khalifa and the lake where the Fountain plays. It is huge and busy at weekends, so pick two or three targets rather than wandering. Entry is free.
#2
2. Mall of the Emirates
The second mall most visitors choose, with a central glass-domed atrium, a large range of mid-market and luxury shops, cinemas and Ski Dubai, the indoor snow park. The station is a short covered walk from the mall, and a Kempinski and a Sheraton are attached. It is calmer than The Dubai Mall on weekday mornings and a good pick when you want snow more than a skyline.
#3
3. Dubai Marina Mall
A compact mall on two levels around a central atrium, with the usual high-street names and the Marina Walk outside. It is not a shopping destination, but it fits into a Marina evening, such as before our shared yacht hour, which leaves hourly from the marina pier. Allow an hour, and use the tram or a short walk from the Metro stations.
#4
4. City Walk
An outdoor shopping and dining district with a central plaza under a hexagonal LED canopy and wrap-around screens. It is a pleasure in winter evenings and not in midday summer, and it has no Metro station, so plan a taxi. Choose it for the atmosphere and dining rather than for the range of shops.
#5
5. Souk Madinat Jumeirah
Not a mall but a souk-style complex of boutiques and restaurants beside canals and wooden footbridges, with the Burj Al Arab behind. Prices are on the tags, so there is no haggling. It suits an evening out better than a shopping spree, and it works as a gift stop if you want art and crafts at fixed prices.
The best malls in Dubai for tourists, in one minute
For a first visit, go to The Dubai Mall; for snow and an easy Metro ride, go to Mall of the Emirates. The Dubai Mall has 1,200+ shops, the aquarium panel, the lake where the Fountain plays and the entrance to the Burj Khalifa. Mall of the Emirates has the shops, the Red Line station next door and Ski Dubai. Dubai Marina Mall and City Walk are lighter choices for an evening.
Almost every mall sells the same global brands, so the useful question is not where to buy a particular shirt but what else you can do there. That is how this list is ranked: attractions inside, ease of reaching it by Metro, crowd level and fit with a typical tourist plan. Prices are printed on the tags, so there is no haggling; for markets where there is, see our guide to Dubai's souks.
Most malls open at 10 AM and close between 10 PM and midnight, with later hours at the weekend. The Dubai Mall closes at 11 PM Monday to Thursday and at midnight Friday to Sunday. Hours change on public holidays and in Ramadan, so check the mall's own hours page before a late visit.
The ranking at a glance
The table adds two malls that are useful to know about but that did not make the top five: Ibn Battuta Mall and BurJuman. The Metro column shows how to reach each mall.
| Rank | Mall | Metro and access | Best for | Skip if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Dubai Mall | Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, then 10-15 minutes on the air-conditioned Metro Link bridge | Aquarium panel, Fountain, Burj Khalifa, luxury and high street | You dislike crowds or want a quick errand |
| 2 | Mall of the Emirates | Mall of the Emirates station, short covered walk | Ski Dubai, mid-range shopping, Metro ease | You want a waterfront |
| 3 | Dubai Marina Mall | DMCC or Sobha Realty station, then a walk or the tram | A short browse before a cruise or dinner | You want a big range |
| 4 | City Walk | No station; taxi or ride-hailing | Open-air strolling and dining | It is a midday summer day |
| 5 | Souk Madinat Jumeirah | No station; taxi, or Metro to Mall of the Emirates plus a short taxi | Gifts, art and a waterfront dinner | You want chain stores |
| Also | Ibn Battuta Mall | Ibn Battuta station, Red Line | Themed courts (China, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia and Andalusia), everyday shops | You are staying in Downtown or Deira |
| Also | BurJuman | BurJuman station, Red and Green Line interchange | Mid-to-upper shops, with Old Dubai close by | You want attractions |
Our Metro guide explains Nol cards and fares, and the taxi guide covers the apps and the meter.
If your hotel is far from the Red Line, a taxi to the mall you choose is the simple option; the taxi and Careem guide explains the fares. If your hotel is on the Red Line, the Metro to The Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates is the cheapest and most reliable option; see the Dubai Metro guide.
The Dubai Mall: the destination mall
The Dubai Mall is free to enter and is worth half a day even if you buy nothing. It has 1,200+ shops, more than 200 luxury brands on Fashion Avenue, an ice rink, a cinema, KidZania and VR Park, and the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. The aquarium's huge viewing panel is free to look at from the mall floor, and going inside costs about AED 150 and up, so check the official price. Outside, the lake in front is where the Dubai Fountain plays every 30 minutes in the evening, from 6 PM.
It is also where our Burj Khalifa ticket begins. The At the Top entrance is on the lower ground floor of the mall, after a security check, and a timed ticket for Levels 124 and 125 is from $55 per person, with SKY Level 148 from $115. Sunset slots are prime time and cost more, and we confirm the price for your slot on WhatsApp. The ticket is full prepayment and cannot be refunded or changed once issued, so check the date and time before you pay. Our full guide to The Dubai Mall has the layout, parking and the one-day plan.
A good shopping day starts with the mall and ends with the lake: shop in the morning when the mall is quiet, go up the Burj Khalifa about an hour before sunset, and finish at the Fountain. The best time to visit Burj Khalifa guide has the slot for every month.
Mall of the Emirates and the Ski Dubai question
Mall of the Emirates is in Al Barsha, about halfway between Downtown and the Marina on the Red Line. The Metro station is a short covered walk from the mall, so it is the easiest big mall to reach without a taxi. Inside are a central glass-domed atrium, a big range of high-street and luxury shops, cinemas and Ski Dubai, an indoor snow park with a chairlift and a slope, which is the main reason to come if you have children or want snow in the desert.
It does not have a Burj Khalifa or a Fountain, so it is a shopping and snow trip rather than a sightseeing one. Our Ski Dubai guide covers tickets and what to wear, and the Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates comparison and the Mall of the Emirates guide help you choose between the two.
If your goal is the Jumeirah coast, Mall of the Emirates is also the practical Metro stop for the Burj Al Arab beaches and Souk Madinat Jumeirah, which have no station of their own: take the train, then a short taxi.
Marina Mall, City Walk and the souk-style options
Dubai Marina Mall is small, so use it as a stop rather than a plan. It sits on the Marina Walk, close to the tram, and the Marina is where our shared yacht tour leaves from, hourly, from $32 per person. Check in at the pier 20 minutes before departure, since the yacht leaves strictly on time. A browse in the mall, a cruise and dinner on the waterfront make an easy evening. Our Dubai Marina area guide shows how the pieces fit.
City Walk is outdoor, pleasant on cool evenings, and handy if you also want The Green Planet; see the Green Planet guide. In summer, treat it as an evening-only choice. Souk Madinat Jumeirah is a souk-style complex rather than a mall, with fixed prices and a waterfront; the Jumeirah guide has what is nearby.
If you want a real market instead of a mall, Old Dubai is the answer, and our Old Dubai walking tour, from $35, covers the Spice Souk and Gold Souk with a guide, with time to look and shop. Then compare the two kinds of shopping and decide which you prefer.
When to go, sales and how to save
Weekday mornings are the calmest hours in every mall. Friday to Sunday evenings are the busiest. Because the outdoors is very hot from May to September, malls become the main daytime activity in summer, and you will find them busy at midday; go early or late, and carry a light layer because the air conditioning is cold.
Prices are fixed, but you can still save. Sale periods bring real reductions: TradeArabia reported that the 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, with 45 days of promotions, and some travel sites still show other dates, so confirm on the official Visit Dubai page. Our shopping festival guide has more. Tourists can also claim the VAT back on eligible purchases from participating shops, covered in the VAT refund guide, and the airport has its own duty free.
Malls ask for modest dress, with shoulders and knees covered; the dress code guide has the detail. For souvenirs rather than brands, see what to buy in Dubai, which sorts gifts by budget.
