Dubai Butterfly Garden costs from about AED 50 and takes 1-2 hours. It is a set of air-conditioned domes with roughly 8,000-10,000 butterflies, next to Dubai Miracle Garden in Al Barsha South, on a separate ticket with children under 3 free. It suits young children and butterfly fans, and it is small, so it works best as an add-on to the flowers or as a cool hour on a hot day. This guide covers what is inside, hours, the combo ticket, getting there and how to build a day around it.

How much does Dubai Butterfly Garden cost?
General admission starts from about AED 50, children under 3 go in free, and people of determination enter free with ID. A combo with Miracle Garden is sold at a saving on the Butterfly entry. Prices change by season, so check the official Miracle Garden site, which also sells the Butterfly Garden ticket.

Four ways to build a day around the Butterfly Garden
#1
Dubai Miracle Garden, next door
The obvious partner, a short walk away. The flower park is seasonal and mostly outdoors, so do it first while the air is cooler, then spend the hottest part of the morning in the domes. A combo ticket for both is sold at a saving on the Butterfly Garden entry, so buy that if you plan to see both.
#2
The Green Planet, the indoor alternative
If the butterfly domes feel too small for your group, The Green Planet at City Walk is a four-storey indoor rainforest with sloths, birds and reptiles. It costs more than the Butterfly Garden, but it is open all year in air conditioning and fills a longer slot, two to three hours rather than one to two.
#3
Global Village, for the evening
The two sit about 15-20 minutes apart by taxi and keep opposite hours: the gardens in the morning, the pavilions and street food from 4 PM. In season it is the easiest way to turn a gentle garden morning into a full day, and the entry price is lower than the Butterfly Garden's.
#4
The desert safari, for a bigger evening
A calm morning among butterflies pairs well with our full-day desert safari, from $45 per person, with hotel pickup, dune bashing, a camel ride and a BBQ dinner at the camp. Children under 3 are not recommended on it, so for toddlers keep the gardens and skip the dunes.
Dubai Butterfly Garden in one minute
Dubai Butterfly Garden is a one-to-two-hour visit that costs from about AED 50. It is a set of air-conditioned domes in Al Barsha South, in the same complex as Dubai Miracle Garden but on its own ticket. The official site gives roughly 8,000-10,000 butterflies from more than 50 species, flying loose among tropical plants, and children under 3 go in free.
It is a small place with a clear job. Go if you have young children, if you like butterflies or close-up photography, or if you are already at Miracle Garden and want a cool hour out of the sun. Skip it if flowers are the reason you came, if you are short of time, or if your children are old enough to find a dome of butterflies slow. Prices, hours and the season change, so check the official site before you go; the figures here are the usual ones.
What is inside
The garden is built around climate-controlled domes, held at a steady temperature that is a relief in summer and a mild day in winter, where butterflies fly free among plants and paths. There is no cage between you and them, which is the point: they land on leaves, railings and now and then on a shoulder if you stand still.
- The domes: the main attraction and most of your time. Walk slowly, look at the plants as well as the air, and do not touch the butterflies' wings.
- The butterfly museum: displays and information boards on the life cycle, from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. Ten minutes is enough for most visitors.
- The education area: a space aimed at children and school groups, useful for a sit-down out of the walk.
- Shops and food: there are souvenir shops and places to eat on site. Souvenirs cost extra, and outside food and drink are not allowed inside the domes.
Do not expect a large zoo or a theme park. The Butterfly Garden is a calm, short, low-effort attraction, and it is at its best on a quiet weekday morning with the domes to yourself.
Tickets, hours and the Miracle Garden combo
The Butterfly Garden sells its own general admission, and the official site also offers a combo ticket with Miracle Garden at a saving on the Butterfly entry. Both are sold online and at the gate, and the online price is the one to check first.
| Item | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Entry ticket | General admission from about AED 50 |
| Young children | Under 3 free; bring ID for the child if asked |
| People of determination | Free entry with ID |
| Combo with Miracle Garden | Reported at about AED 140 for an adult at the start of the season, a small saving on buying separately |
| Hours | About 9 AM to 6 PM, last entry 30 minutes before closing |
| Season | Listed as open all year; the Miracle Garden next door is seasonal |
| Time needed | 1-2 hours; the official average is 2-3 hours if you linger |
Third-party prices, hours and season dates change; check the official Miracle Garden site, which also sells the Butterfly Garden ticket, before you go.
The Miracle Garden next door lists longer daily hours, about 9 AM to 9 PM, so the two do not close at the same time. If you go late for the flowers, check that the domes are still open before you plan the Butterfly Garden as the second stop.
Is it worth it? Who should go and who should skip
At about AED 50 it is one of the cheaper paid attractions in Dubai, and for the right group it is good value. The right group is families with children from about 2 to 8, couples who like gardens, and photographers who enjoy macro work. The domes are cool, the paths are flat, pushchairs and wheelchairs are accommodated, and nothing is rushed.
It is a poorer choice for teenagers and for anyone expecting rides, shows or a big park. It is also small: if you drive 30 minutes each way for the butterflies alone, you may feel the trip was longer than the visit. That is why most visitors pair it with Miracle Garden, or with a second stop in the same direction. Compare it with the indoor alternative in our Green Planet guide, which costs more but fills a half day.
- Go: young children, butterfly and plant fans, a hot afternoon that needs air conditioning, a Miracle Garden day that needs a second stop.
- Skip: if you want thrills, if you only have an hour in Dubai, or if you are visiting in summer and the official site does not confirm it is open.
How to get there
There is no Metro station at the garden. The nearest practical Red Line stop is Mall of the Emirates, and from there it is a short taxi. For the full door-to-door comparison, including the seasonal buses and the Global Village leg, see Dubai to Global Village and Miracle Garden; the Butterfly Garden uses the same routes as Miracle Garden because it sits in the same complex.
| Option | Time | Cost (about) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi or Careem from Downtown or the Marina | 25-35 min | AED 60-90 each way | Door to door; book the return from the app |
| Red Line to Mall of the Emirates, then a taxi | 40-60 min in total | AED 5-7.5 on a Nol card plus AED 25-35 for the taxi | Cheapest practical route |
| Direct bus from Mall of the Emirates | Varies | Normal Nol fare | Check the RTA schedule; not guaranteed outside the flower season |
| Hire car | 25-35 min | Fuel plus parking | Parking is shared with Miracle Garden and fills at weekends |
Fares are approximate and the meter decides; check the S'hail app for bus times.
Our Dubai Metro guide covers Nol cards and fares for the Red Line leg.
A simple morning with Miracle Garden
The two gardens are neighbours, so there is no taxi between them. In the cooler months, from about November to March, this is an easy half day. In April and October the middle of the day is already hot, so the domes become the refuge rather than the add-on.
| Time | What | Note |
|---|---|---|
| About 9:00 AM | Arrive at Miracle Garden | Softer light, thinner crowds, cooler air |
| 9:00-11:30 AM | Walk the flower displays | Take photos before the tour groups arrive |
| 11:30 AM-1:00 PM | Butterfly Garden | Cool domes while the sun climbs |
| 1:00 PM | Lunch on site or in the taxi back | Eating inside the domes is not allowed |
| Afternoon | Free, or a second stop | The Marina for a yacht hour, or rest before the evening |
Miracle Garden season and hours change each year.
The Miracle Garden guide covers the flower side of the plan in full.
What to wear, bring and the rules
The domes are kept steady and fairly humid, because butterflies need that, so they feel cool in summer and mild in winter. Wear light clothes and flat shoes, carry water for the walk from the car park, and bring a hat and sunscreen for the outdoor stretch between the gardens.
- Do not touch the wings. A butterfly that lands on you is fine; a pinched wing does not heal.
- Watch your step. Butterflies sometimes rest on the path, and the paths are narrow in places.
- No outside food or drink in the domes. Finish your water outside.
- Supervise children. Toddlers will want to grab; a calm hand and a good reason to stand still work better than a ban.
- Photography is welcome, and staff will help; flash is not needed in daylight under the dome.
For a wider family plan, our guides to Dubai with kids and the best things to do with kids place the gardens among the water parks, beaches and indoor options.
Fitting it around our tours
A quiet garden morning leaves the rest of the day free, and our tours fit around it. The full-day desert safari is 7 hours from $45 per person ($65 with the 30-minute quad bike), with hotel pickup in an air-conditioned 4x4, dune bashing on the Red Dunes, a camel ride and a BBQ dinner at the camp. There is no prepayment, and we confirm the pickup time when you book, so mention a garden morning then. It is not recommended for infants under 3, so families with a toddler should read Dubai desert safari with kids first.
For something gentler, the shared yacht tour in Dubai Marina is from $32 per person for one hour, with children welcome under adult supervision. It needs full prepayment and has no hotel transfer. For the evening, in season, see our Global Village guide; in summer, when both the gardens' outdoor sections and Global Village are shut or too hot, our summer guide lists what still works.
FAQ
How much does Dubai Butterfly Garden cost?
General admission starts from about AED 50, children under 3 go in free, and people of determination enter free with ID. A combo with Miracle Garden is sold at a saving on the Butterfly entry. Prices change by season, so check the official Miracle Garden site, which also sells the Butterfly Garden ticket.
How long does a visit to the Butterfly Garden take?
Plan 1-2 hours for the domes, the museum and a short break. The official average is 2-3 hours, but that includes people who linger for photographs or take children slowly. With Miracle Garden next door, allow a half day for both.
Is the Butterfly Garden next to Miracle Garden?
Yes. Both are in Al Barsha South 3 in the same complex, but they have separate tickets and different hours. The Butterfly Garden lists about 9 AM to 6 PM, and Miracle Garden about 9 AM to 9 PM. A combo ticket covers both at a saving on the Butterfly entry.
Is the Butterfly Garden open in summer?
The official site lists it as open all year, while Miracle Garden next door is seasonal. Because hours and closures change, confirm it is open on your date if you visit between May and October. The domes are air-conditioned, but the walk from the car park is still in the heat.
Is it suitable for toddlers and babies?
Yes, for the most part. Children under 3 enter free, pushchairs and wheelchairs are accommodated, and the domes are cooler than the street. The catch is that toddlers want to touch the butterflies, which harms them, so go with an adult for each small child and keep visits short.
How do I get to the Butterfly Garden by Metro?
Take the Red Line to Mall of the Emirates, about AED 5-7.5 on a Nol card from most of the city, then a taxi of 10-15 minutes, roughly AED 25-35. A direct bus from Mall of the Emirates is listed on the official site; check the RTA schedule, as bus routes change with the season.
Can I touch the butterflies?
No. Do not touch the wings, which are easily damaged. Standing still often brings a butterfly to land on your clothes or hand, and that is the safe way to get close. Children must be supervised, and outside food and drink are not allowed in the domes.
