An iPhone 18 Pro with 256 GB costs AED 5,099 at Apple in the UAE, about $1,388, against $1,199 in the US before sales tax, so Dubai is not cheaper than the US. Whether it beats your own country depends on the tax there. This guide gives Apple's current prices side by side, five steps to compare with home, the VAT refund, the warranty and how to avoid fake or grey-market sellers.

Are iPhones cheaper in Dubai than in the US?
Not at Apple's own prices on 2 November 2026. An iPhone 18 Pro with 256 GB is AED 5,099 in the UAE, about $1,388, against $1,199 in the US before sales tax. Even without the 5% VAT the UAE price is about 10% higher. Compare with your own country's price.

Where to buy an iPhone in Dubai
#1
Apple Store, The Dubai Mall
Apple's UAE store list shows The Dubai Mall as one of two Dubai stores. Apple's UAE prices include 5% VAT. Ask for a tax invoice, and for the Tax Free form at the till if you want a VAT refund. The mall is busy, so go on a weekday morning.
#2
Apple Store, Mall of the Emirates
The second Dubai store on Apple's list, in the mall beside the Red Line station. It is the easier choice if you are staying on the Marina or Al Barsha side. Check the mall's opening hours before you go, and bring your passport for the VAT refund form.
#3
Authorised resellers and electronics chains
Chains in malls can sell iPhones and other electronics at a different price, sometimes with a mall promotion. We did not compare their prices for this guide. Ask whether the shop is an Apple authorised reseller, and compare the final price on a tax invoice, not the sticker.
#4
Dubai Duty Free at the airport
Duty free shops sell without VAT, so there is nothing to refund, but our Duty Free guide notes that electronics are not a safe bet. Look up the same model on Apple's page for your country, convert the price and buy only if the gap is clear.
Is an iPhone cheaper in Dubai? The short answer
At Apple's own prices on 2 November 2026, an iPhone 18 Pro with 256 GB costs AED 5,099 in the UAE, about $1,388 at the fixed rate of 3.6725, against $1,199 on Apple's US store. The UAE price includes 5% VAT, and the US price is before sales tax. So Dubai is not the cheap place for an iPhone if you are comparing with the US. Even if you reclaimed all of the VAT, the UAE price would still be about 10% higher.
Whether Dubai beats your own country depends on the tax and the price Apple sets there, so the useful answer is a method: look at Apple's page for your country and for the UAE, convert, and compare totals with tax. The steps are below. The old idea that gadgets are much cheaper in Dubai is a reason to check, not a reason to buy.
iPhone prices at Apple: the UAE and the US side by side
We read both Apple store pages on 2 November 2026. The UAE prices include 5% VAT and exclude delivery. The US prices are the unlocked prices before sales tax, which varies by state, so your total in the US can be higher. The dollar figures for the UAE are our conversion at AED 3.6725 to the dollar.
| Model, 256 GB | UAE price, VAT included | UAE price in US dollars | US price, before sales tax | UAE is higher by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 | AED 3,799 | $1,034 | $929 | about 11% |
| iPhone 18 Pro | AED 5,099 | $1,388 | $1,199 | about 16% |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | AED 5,499 | $1,497 | $1,299 | about 15% |
Prices from Apple's UAE and US store pages as read on 2 November 2026; they can change at any time, so check before you buy. Percentages are our calculation.
Apple's UAE page also lists the iPhone 17e from AED 2,999, the iPhone Air from AED 4,699 and the foldable iPhone Duo from AED 8,499. We did not check those models against the US store.
VAT explains part of the gap but not all. The VAT inside the AED 5,099 price is about AED 243, and a refund comes back minus the operator's fee. Without VAT the UAE price is about $1,322, still about 10% above $1,199, and the iPhone 17 stays about 6% above after VAT is taken out.
How to compare with your own country in five steps
This takes about ten minutes and works for any phone, laptop or camera that has an official price page.
- Open Apple's page for your country and for the UAE (apple.com/ae), and note the same model and storage.
- Check what each price includes. UAE prices include 5% VAT. Many countries show prices with a higher VAT or sales tax included, and the US shows prices before tax.
- Convert the dirham price. The dirham is fixed at 3.6725 to the dollar, so divide by 3.6725. For other currencies, use a currency app on the day.
- Subtract only what you will really get back. The tourist VAT refund returns most of the 5%, not all of it, and only on goods from participating shops.
- Add what the saving must cover. That includes the risk of a warranty that does not work at home, any customs duty at your arrival airport, and an eSIM that your carrier must support.
eSIM, plugs and compatibility
Apple's UAE specification pages for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 Pro say these phones use eSIM only and are not compatible with physical SIM cards. Before you buy, check that your home carrier supports eSIM and will unlock the phone if you need to switch. If you want a local plan while you are in Dubai, our guide to SIM cards in Dubai explains the local options.
Chargers matter too. The UAE uses its own plug type and voltage, so check our power plugs and voltage guide before you buy a charger or any appliance. A cable that fits in Dubai may need an adapter at home.
The VAT refund on a phone
A phone bought at a participating shop counts as goods, so you can claim most of the 5% VAT if the tax invoice is at least AED 250 and you leave the UAE within 90 days. Show your passport at the till and ask for the Tax Free form. On a phone costing AED 5,099 the VAT is about AED 243, before the operator's fee.
The practical catch is that you may be asked to show the goods at the airport, and using them before you leave can lead to a refusal. Keep the box sealed until you have been through the refund desk. If you need the phone at once, decide whether the refund is worth the wait. Our VAT refund guide has the steps, the kiosks and the mistakes to avoid.
Warranty, receipts and what to do if something is wrong
u.ae, the UAE government portal, says a supplier must issue a dated invoice and that it must be in Arabic, and that a supplier must repair or replace a defective product at no charge. Ask for the invoice, keep the box and write down the serial number. After you buy, you can check the device's coverage on Apple's coverage-check page, which asks for the serial number.
We could not read Apple's current warranty terms for the UAE, so ask a member of staff before you pay whether service is available in your home country, and read the terms on Apple's UAE site. For a problem with a shop in Dubai, u.ae lists the Ministry of Economy consumer line, 800 1222, and the Consumer Complaint service at consumerrights.ae for Dubai.
Fakes, grey-market sellers and other traps
Most problems come from where you buy, not from Dubai itself. Buy a sealed phone from Apple or an authorised reseller and take a tax invoice. Be careful with street sellers and small shops that offer a price far below Apple's, because the phone may be refurbished, locked to another market or not genuine. A refurbished phone is fine if it is sold as one, with a clear warranty.
Check the box seal, open the phone in the shop and look at the model and serial number in Settings. If anything is different from the box, do not pay. Our guide to common tourist scams covers fake goods more widely, and our Dubai Duty Free guide explains why electronics at the airport need a price check too.
Other electronics, and a stop at The Dubai Mall
The same method works for laptops, headphones and cameras: find the brand's official price page for your country and for the UAE, convert, and compare totals with tax. The Dubai Shopping Festival, 4 December to 17 January, may bring promotions, but check the final price and the exchange policy. For cheap accessories, Dragon Mart sells Chinese-made chargers and speakers, with the warranty caveats described there.
If you do visit The Dubai Mall, the entrance for our Burj Khalifa observation deck tickets, from $55, is on the lower ground floor of the same mall. Our Dubai Mall guide shows how to plan the visit.
FAQ
Are iPhones cheaper in Dubai than in the US?
Not at Apple's own prices on 2 November 2026. An iPhone 18 Pro with 256 GB is AED 5,099 in the UAE, about $1,388, against $1,199 in the US before sales tax. Even without the 5% VAT the UAE price is about 10% higher. Compare with your own country's price.
Can tourists get a VAT refund on an iPhone in Dubai?
Yes, from a shop that takes part in the Tourist Refund Scheme, if the tax invoice is at least AED 250 and you leave within 90 days. You get most of the 5% back, not all of it. Keep the phone sealed until you have been through the refund check at the airport.
Are iPhones bought in Dubai eSIM only?
The iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 Pro sold by Apple in the UAE are eSIM only, according to Apple's UAE specification pages, and do not support a physical SIM card. Check that your carrier supports eSIM before you buy.
Will my warranty work at home if I buy an iPhone in Dubai?
It depends on the terms. We could not read Apple's current UAE warranty terms, so ask in the store and read them on Apple's UAE site. Check the serial number on Apple's coverage-check page, and keep the invoice and the box.
Where is the safest place to buy an iPhone in Dubai?
An Apple Store, an authorised reseller or Apple's online UAE store. Apple lists two Dubai stores, at The Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. Buy a sealed phone, take a tax invoice and avoid street sellers with prices far below Apple's.
How can I tell if a phone is fake or grey-market?
Buy sealed from an Apple Store or authorised reseller, then check the model and serial number in Settings against the box. Be careful with prices far below Apple's, unsealed boxes and sellers who will not give a tax invoice. Walk away if anything does not match.
Is Dubai Duty Free cheaper for electronics?
Not reliably. Duty free sells without VAT, but our Duty Free guide notes that electronics can be no better than a high-street sale. Look up the model on Apple's page for your country, convert the price and buy only if the gap is clear.
Where do I complain about a shop in Dubai?
u.ae lists the Ministry of Economy consumer line, 800 1222, and the Consumer Complaint service at consumerrights.ae for Dubai. Keep the dated invoice, the serial number and any messages with the seller, and complain as soon as you find the fault.
