Five stops for the Abu Dhabi side of your trip

Yas Island and the circuit #1
Yas Island, Abu Dhabi Race ticket holders

Yas Island and the circuit

Yas Marina Circuit sits on Yas Island, next to Ferrari World and Yas Mall. Race weekend is the island at its busiest, with heavy traffic and hotels that usually book up early, so a ticket holder is better off staying nearby than driving back to Dubai the same night. Our Yas Island guide covers the rest of the island.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque #2
Abu Dhabi city, about 40 minutes of a day tour The one sight to see before or after the race

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

The mosque is the first stop on our Abu Dhabi tour, with registration assistance included, and it is best seen on a quiet weekday outside the race week. The dress code is mandatory: women need loose clothing covering ankles and wrists plus a headscarf, and men must cover shoulders and knees. Check visiting hours before the date.

BAPS Hindu Mandir #3
Abu Dhabi, on the way from Dubai Architecture and a calm contrast to the race

BAPS Hindu Mandir

The stone Hindu temple is a stop on our city tour, with its own dress code and security checks. It is a good counterweight to a loud race weekend: quiet, detailed and free to enter on the shared tour. Visitor numbers can rise on holidays and festival days, so ask us before you pick a date in early December.

The Corniche and Emirates Palace #4
Central Abu Dhabi waterfront Skyline views and an easy afternoon

The Corniche and Emirates Palace

The Corniche is the waterfront promenade with the best skyline views in the city, and Emirates Palace is a photo stop on our drive along it. It works well as the afternoon after a morning at the mosque, and December weather is mild enough to walk. It also sits far from Yas Island, so keep it for a day without the race.

Louvre Abu Dhabi #5
Saadiyat Island A museum day on its own

Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is not on our Abu Dhabi city tour, so it needs its own plan, with its own ticket and its own time. It is a good rest from the race crowds if you have a free day in the capital, but check opening hours and ticket prices on its official site. Our Louvre Abu Dhabi guide has the detail.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026: the short answer

The race is on Sunday 6 December 2026 at Yas Marina Circuit, on Yas Island, according to most sources. Practice is on Thursday 3 December in most listings, but the official confirmation gives 4 to 6 December and Visit Abu Dhabi lists 4 to 7 December. Confirm the days on your ticket on the official event portal before you book flights or hotels.

Tickets are sold through the official Yas Marina Circuit and event portal. One report puts them from about AED 395, while others put general admission under AED 1,000 and grandstands at around AED 2,400, and limited availability has been reported. From Dubai, Yas Island is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road in normal traffic, and race weekend is not normal traffic. Race tickets come from the official portal, not from us; our own offer is the daytime Abu Dhabi tour.

The dates: what the sources say

The sources do not agree, so the safest approach is to keep the whole stretch in mind for traffic and hotel prices, and to let your ticket decide your own days.

The race weekend follows straight after UAE National Day, which is a public holiday on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December, and the Dubai Shopping Festival starts on 4 December. Expect busy roads and high hotel rates across both emirates that week; our National Day guide and December in Dubai guide cover the context.

Tickets and prices

Prices differ between reports, and the official portal is the only price that counts. The table gives rough dollar figures at about AED 3.67 to the dollar.

Getting from Dubai to Yas Marina

There is no single best route, and event traffic changes the picture. These are the options:

  • By car or taxi: roughly 1.5 to 2 hours in normal traffic, longer on race days. Check the fare before you set off, and plan the return carefully, as the roads fill after the final session. See Dubai to Abu Dhabi for the usual options.
  • By bus: the E100 and E101 intercity buses take about 2 hours and leave you at a bus station in Abu Dhabi, not on Yas Island, so you need a second leg.
  • By Etihad Rail: the Dubai service launched on Wednesday 30 September 2026 between Al Yalayis Station in Jumeirah Golf Estates and Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi, taking about 57 minutes. Comfort Class is AED 39 booked online, according to Gulf News. Neither station is in the centre of either city, so you still need a taxi at each end; our Etihad Rail guide has the details.
  • Event transport: check the official portal for shuttles, parking and gate times. We have no confirmed details.

For a ticket holder, the calm answer is a night in Abu Dhabi or on Yas Island, which spares you the post-race drive. If you stay in Dubai, leave early and expect a late return. Our Abu Dhabi to Dubai guide covers the way back.

Race weekend or Abu Dhabi day: why not the same day

If you hold a race ticket, the circuit takes your day and your evening. A city tour on the same day does not fit. Our Abu Dhabi city tour is a 9-hour day with hotel pickup at 8:00 AM, taking in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the BAPS Hindu Mandir, the Corniche and Emirates Palace, Heritage Village, a Ferrari World photo op and lunch at Yas Mall on Yas Island, and the Dates Market before the return to Dubai.

Yas Island will be at its busiest on race days, and roads around the circuit may be restricted, so please ask us on WhatsApp before booking a tour date from 3 to 7 December. The tour is from $45 per person shared, or $245 for a private car for up to 7 people, with no prepayment: you pay on the day. Our tour or on your own guide compares the two ways to do the day.

How to combine the race with an Abu Dhabi day

Choose the plan by what you hold and how many nights you have.

Your situationBest planWhy
Race ticket for several daysStay near Yas; do the sights on a different dateThe circuit fills your days, and roads are slow
Race ticket for Sunday onlyArrive in the morning, stay the night, leave on MondayAvoids the post-race drive
No ticket, in Abu Dhabi that weekAvoid Yas Island; go on a quiet weekday outside 2 to 7 DecemberNational Day holiday and race both raise crowds
No ticket, staying in DubaiSkip Abu Dhabi that weekend; try the desert or the MarinaDubai is quieter than the road to Abu Dhabi

Plan based on the dates reported as of 29 October 2026; confirm with the official sources.

The simplest rule is to treat 2 to 7 December as the crowded stretch and put the Abu Dhabi tour before it, for example in the last week of November, or after it, from Tuesday 8 December. See Abu Dhabi in one day from Dubai for the plan.

What to bring and expect

December in Abu Dhabi is mild, with daytime highs of about 25-27°C and cooler evenings, so layers are sensible for a night event. Bring sun protection for the day sessions, and ear protection if you are sensitive to loud noise. Check the official portal for what bags and items are allowed.

  • Passport or Emirates ID, and your ticket on your phone or printed.
  • Comfortable shoes: the walk from transport to the circuit can be long.
  • A power bank, because your phone does the tickets and the maps.
  • A modest outfit in your bag if you plan to add a mosque or temple stop on a different day.

FAQ

When is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026?

Early December 2026 at Yas Marina Circuit. Most sources say 3 to 6 December, with the race on Sunday 6 December. The official confirmation says 4 to 6 December and Visit Abu Dhabi lists 4 to 7 December. Check the dates on your ticket on the official portal.

How much do Abu Dhabi Grand Prix tickets cost?

Reports vary. One says from about AED 395 (around $110), others put general admission under AED 1,000 and grandstands around AED 2,400 (about $650). Limited availability has been reported, so buy only through the official portal.

How far is Yas Marina Circuit from Dubai?

Roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road from most of Dubai in normal traffic, and longer on race days. Yas Island is on the Dubai side of the capital, so it is a little closer than the city centre, but it is still an intercity drive.

Can I take the Etihad Rail train to the Grand Prix?

The Dubai service launched on 30 September 2026, about 57 minutes between Al Yalayis Station and Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station, from AED 39 in Comfort Class when booked online. The stations are outside both city centres and we have no confirmed event link, so you still need a taxi at each end.

Can I do the Abu Dhabi city tour on race day?

We would not advise a date from 3 to 7 December without asking first. Yas Island will be busy, and the tour covers it. The tour is from $45 per person shared, or $245 private for up to 7, with no prepayment. Pick a quieter day and send us the date on WhatsApp.

Should I stay overnight in Abu Dhabi for the race?

If you hold a ticket for the Sunday race, a night in Abu Dhabi or on Yas Island is the calm option, since roads fill after the final session. Hotels near the circuit usually book up early, so reserve as soon as your ticket days are confirmed.

Is the race the same week as UAE National Day?

Yes. The National Day holiday is Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December 2026, and most sources start the race weekend on 3 December. Expect busy roads and high hotel rates in both emirates that week.
